MicroMillions II: Llandie lands a win in Event #51 ($2.20+R Ante Up 2x-Turbo)

MicroMillions logo.pngLlandie was quiet going into the final table, watching as the big stacks eliminated the small ones. But when it came time, Llandie scored an important double-up and moved up on the leaderboard. Though the smallest of the final four in the deal agreement, Llandie continued to use well-timed aggression to move up and into the winner's circle.

It's always good to mix things up. Players can only take so much straight No Limit Hold'em, and tossing in some fun variations presents a challenge to them. And poker players do love a challenge.

Event 51 at its core was a NLHE tournament with a $2.20 buy-in and a $25K guarantee. Rebuys were available during the first 60 minutes of play, and players could rebuy as many times as desired once reduced to a 2,000-chip stack or less. Players could also purchase a 10,000-chip add-on at the end of the rebuy period. But there was more! Not only was it a turbo structure with five-minute levels, but it was an event centered around antes. Blinds stayed at 5/5 throughout the entire tournament, but antes started at 30 in level one and went up incrementally as levels increased. Interesting, no?

Apparently, quite a few players were interested, and this was such a popular variation that the prize pool soared to quite a bit more than three times the guaranteed amount.

Players: 11,168
Rebuys: 26,797
Add-ons: 5,991
Guarantee: $25,000.00
Prize pool: $87,912.00
Paid players: 1,440

The money bubble burst around the three-hour mark, and Azes728 cashed for $14.06 to lead the way to a string of quick bustouts. By the five-hour mark, there were only three tables left, and Level 52 had the ante at 150K with blinds still at 5/5. Ten minutes later, only two tables remained.

The 5.5-hour break showed 11 players still seated, and a quick elimination of Bubbles_FTW upon their return took them to hand-for-hand action. It took only a few minutes for an all-in. When batcaveman raised all-in from the small blind, original limper crocodile360 called with K♥9♥. Batcaveman had only 9♠5♣ but caught trips on the 5♦K♣7♠5♥J♥ board. Crocodile360 left in tenth place with $439.56.

Batcaveman and superpowers in the lead

The final table was set in the last moments of Level 57, with the same 5/5 blinds but an ante of 350K. The players' starting chip stacks were:

Seat 1: Stillrich (18,506,629 in chips)
Seat 2: 905thuggin (5,571,493 in chips)
Seat 3: b8chatz (3,537,202 in chips)
Seat 4: mr_wickedown (21,988,772 in chips)
Seat 5: batcaveman (53,541,404 in chips)
Seat 6: Llandie (7,847,304 in chips)
Seat 7: Uprising65 (12,985,996 in chips)
Seat 8: ostergaaard (6,841,469 in chips)
Seat 9: GrandmasterY (5,019,731 in chips)

Lliandie doubled through Uprising65, and the latter turned around and doubled through batcaveman.

GrandmasterY moved next after an UTG raise from batcaveman. But mr_wickedown reraised from the big blind position, and batcaveman folded. GrandmasterY showed A♣9♠, but mr_wickedown was ahead with T♠T♣. That pocket pair stayed ahead as the dealer provided 8♠4♠Q♦8♦7♠, and GrandmasterY left in ninth place with $597.80.

More moves from mr_wickedown

The very next hand saw 905thuggin make a move with J♦J♠. Mr_wickedown reraised from the small blind to isolate, which worked, and showed A♦7♠. The flop of A♣Q♠K♥ put mr_wickedown ahead, and the 4♦ and 6♠ finished the board. 905thuggin had to leave in eighth place with $879.12.

Only one hand after that, b8chatz pushed with K♣5♠ from middle position, and mr_wickedown called with A♠A♥. The flop of 2♦9♦A♣ only created a set for mr_wickedown, and the Q♠ and 8♣ made it official that b8chatz was out in seventh place with $1,758.24.

Llandie hit another double-up, this time through mr_wickedown, and climbed into the top three:

When Uprising65 was ready to move all-in UTG, none other than mr_wickedown was there to call with A♣9♣, which dominated the Q♠9♦ of Uprising65. The board came 6♣A♦5♣9♥5♦ to eliminate Uprising65 in sixth place with $2,637.36.

The next big hand started small when Llandie, ostergaaard, Stillrich, mr_wickedown, and batcaveman all limped to see the 7♣3♦8♠ flop. Llandie bet, and Stillrich raised all-in. Everyone else folded, and Llandie called with 8♥7♥ for flopped two pair. Stillrich showed 8♣2♠ for top pair and didn't improve on the J♣ turn or 9♥ river. Stillrich departed in fifth place with $3,516.48.

Then ostergaaard doubled through mr_wickedown, nearly evening the stacks of the four remaining players:

Deal? Yes, please!

The final four players paused the tournament to discuss a possible deal, but chip-chop numbers were not favorable to all. There was wheeling and there was dealing, and new numbers brought the words "I agree" from all of the participants. With $500 extra set aside for the ultimate winner, the payouts were set as:

Seat 4: mr_wickedown (33,509,365 in chips) = $7,250.09
Seat 5: batcaveman (36,653,232 in chips) = $9,069.06
Seat 6: Llandie (30,111,360 in chips) = $7,592.30
Seat 8: ostergaaard (35,566.043 in chips) = $7,595.32

And play resumed.

Ostergaaard lost some ground and made a push with K♠T♦, and mr_wickedown called with A♠6♦. The flop of Q♦6♠6♣ gave mr_wickedown trip sixes, and the J♠ and J♦ made that into a full house. Ostergaaard left in fourth place with $7,595.32.

On the very next hand, the newest of the short stacks, batcaveman, made a push with 2♣2♠, and Llandie decided to call with T♦T♠. The flop of J♥5♠T♥ created a set of tens, and though the 9♠ changed nothing on the turn, the J♣ on the river gave Llandie a full house. Batcaveman was eliminated in third place with $9,069.06.

Tables wickedly turned in heads-up

The tenacious Llandie had a significant lead going into heads-up:

Seat 4: mr_wickedown (47,152,181 in chips)
Seat 6: Llandie (88,687,819 in chips)

Mr_wickedown won a few small pots but not enough to push him above his heads-up starting stack. Mr_wickedown finally pushed 45 million chips all-in with 2♠2♣, but Llandie woke up with 7♣7♥. The board blanked with A♣8♦Q♠9♣4♠, and mr_wickedown had to settle for second place and $7,250.09.

Llandie of Belgium collected the MicroMillions II title and $8,092.30 in cash. Congrats!
