MicroMillions II: Stefanoy stomps final table to win Event #24 ($2.20 NLHE)

MicroMillions logo.pngThere was no question about stefanoy's plan. Entering the final table with the chip lead was one thing, but the sheer aggression used to chip up even further was impressive. The cards were there for stefanoy, and everything seemed to fall into place. And the four simple words at the start of heads-up - "i will destroy you" - said it all about stefanoy's intentions. Six hands later, stefanoy was the winner.

This was a popular event. It was held on a Saturday, which helped with an increased turnout, and the buy-in was only $2.20. There was also a $15K guarantee, which is quite the nice promise for the MicroMillions tournament. But whatever the reasons all put together, players came out in droves for Event 24 and more than doubled the guaranteed prize pool amount. Sure, something like that makes the organizers reexamine their numbers and attempt to figure the error of their prediction, but everyone else gets to reach for their pieces of the big ol' prize pool.

When Event 24 got underway and finally ceased registration after two hours, the numbers were:

Players: 15,137
Guarantee: $15,000.00
Prize pool: $30,274.00
Paid players: 2,025

As happens in any tournament, the majority of players do not make money for their efforts. The last in that category was zig-zag69up, who was the unfortunate 2026th player of the event. Bil1971 cashed for $3.33 in 2025th place, and the list of cashing players went on. And on. And on.

The eight-hour mark signaled the reduction of the tournament to only two tables, and play slowed considerably as the pay jumps increased. Eventually, mari19ten departed in 12th place, followed by a.georgiou in 11th. Hand-for-hand then went on as the nine-hour mark passed, though just barely. It was then that wil766 moved all-in from the small blind with A♦2♠, but BANGLA19 called all-in from the big blind with A♠T♠. The board of 5♣9♥Q♣7♣2♦ dropped the two on the river to give wil766 a pair, and BANGLA19 had to leave in tenth place with $121.09.

Stefanoy soars with initial chip lead

The final table got underway in Level 48, with blinds of 150,000/300,000 and a 37,500 ante, not to mention these starting chip counts:

Seat 1: sfoxxx (2,067,731 in chips)
Seat 2: stefanoy (18,969,147 in chips)
Seat 3: diakson (9,809,160 in chips)
Seat 4: wil766 (10,317,254 in chips)
Seat 5: dominating25 (4,338,078 in chips)
Seat 6: alvagodo (8,519,036 in chips)
Seat 7: moneyprod87 (2,826,972 in chips)
Seat 8: n3sse (12,947,762 in chips)
Seat 9: halfbreedg69 (5,889,860 in chips)

Stefanoy started aggressively, taking a 4.2 million-chip pot from wil766 in the first round of action. A short while later, a 10.4 million-chip pot went to stefanoy with alvagodo on the losing end of that hand. Meanwhile, moneyprod87 doubled through diakson to stay in the game.

Sfoxxx was struggling on the low end of the chip counts and pushed all-in from the big blind with 9♠9♣. Original raiser wil766 called 317,731 more with J♥T♥ and caught the flop of T♣7♦T♦ to make trip tens. The 4♥ and 5♣ cards finished the hand with sfoxxx on the sidelines, taking home $181.64 for ninth place.

Stefanoy then chipped up further with a pot worth 10 million chips, courtesy of n3sse, putting the former well over the 30 million mark. N3sse then took another hit when halfbreedg69 did this:

And when alvagodo pushed all-in UTG on a subsequent hand, halfbreedg69 reraised all-in with A♥Q♣. Everyone else folded, and alvagodo showed K♦J♣, which didn't improve to a winning hand on the 5♦5♣3♦5♥7♣. Halfbreedg69 collected those chips as well, and alvagodo exited in eighth place with $272.46.

Dominating25 pushed UTG with 3♠3♣, and diakson reraised all-in from the small blind to isolate, which worked. Diakson showed A♦J♦ for the race situation, which immediately improved on the K♠9♠J♥ flop. The 8♠ turn and T♥ river allowed the jacks to stand up and send dominating25 out in seventh place with $529.79.

No stopping stefanoy

Moneyprod87 doubled through stefanoy, as did n3sse, though stefanoy was still the far-and-away chip leader.

On the very next hand after the n3sse double-up, n3sse risked it all again, this time with A♣T♠. Stefanoy was there with Q♥T♥ and caught the queen on the 8♦Q♣4♦6♠K♠ board. N3sse left in sixth place with $817.39.

When moneyprod87 pushed UTG with A♥K♣, stefanoy reraised from the button all-in, and everyone else folded. Stefanoy showed A♠J♣ but handily turned that into a straight on the 7♥T♣5♣8♣9♠ board. Moneyprod87 had to leave in fifth place with $1,120.13.

The very next hand started with an UTG raise from stefanoy and calls from diakson and halfbreedg69. The flop came 9♠J♥2♠, and diakson led out with a bet. Halfbreedg69 raised all-in, and stefanoy check-folded. Diakson check-called with A♠J♦ for top pair best kicker, and halfbreedg69 was going to need to improve on J♣T♦. But the A♦ turn card only have diakson two pair, and the 7♠ on the river ended the hand with halfbreedg69 out in fourth place with $1,422.87.

Wil766 was the next player to move, doing so with 7♦5♦ from the small blind. Stefanoy called from the big blind with 5♣5♥, and nothing could help wil766 on the A♥4♣K♥3♦3♣ board. Wil766 was eliminated in third place with $2,028.35.

Heads-up destruction

The last two players standing started their battle with these counts:

Seat 2: stefanoy (56,939,983 in chips)
Seat 3: diakson (18,745,017 in chips)

As play got underway and both decided to pause the tournament to discuss a deal, the conversation in the chat box was short and to the point:

stefanoy: i will destroy you
diakson: ok

Okay, then. The deal discussion was short-lived, as the two could not agree on the chop numbers provided and chose to play on.

It took only six hands for the destruction to take place in full. Diakson raised that hand, and stefanoy reraised all-in. Diakson called all-in.

stefanoy: K♦J♥
diakson: Q♦J♦

The board revealed T♥J♣4♠A♥Q♥ for the sweat, and the river did provide the ace-high straight for stefanoy to beat the two pair of diakson. Diakson took second place and $2,642.92.

Stefanoy of Romania won Event 24 and $3,793.26 in cash. Congrats!
