MicroMillions III: Artur Lesley wins Event #15 ($5.50 FLHE Turbo)
A turbo format will ignite the action in any poker discipline, but perhaps none more than limit hold'em. High blinds and shallow stacks turn what was once a game of bets saved and earned into a multi-way firefight where the entire landscape can change with a single hand. Aggression, fearlessness, and relentless blind-stealing are the keys to success and tonight, Russia's Artur Lesley was a master of all three, winning Event #15 for a $2,010.77 return on his $5.50 investment.
2,701 limit hold'em enthusiasts turned out, creating a $13,505 prize pool. 342 places were paid with first place set to earn $2,135.50. Poland's Marcin Horecki was the lone Red Spade in this MicroMillions field and made an early exit.
The money bubble burst only 48 minutes after late registration closed and less than 90 minutes later, the field was down to ten players. With 80,000/160,000 blinds and 160,000/320,000 betting limits, emerald road and Yeahbaby01 saw a A♠T♥3♥ flop for the minimum. Yeahbaby01 flopped a set of tens and check-raised to 320,000, the rest of his chips going in on the K♠ turn. Emerald road called and had plenty of outs going to the river with Q♥6♥ for straight and flush draws. The J♠ on the river made Broadway for emerald road and Yeahbaby01 hit the rail as the final table was set.
Final table chip counts
Seat 1: JennyNicks (885,568 in chips)
Seat 2: emerald road (3,563,358 in chips)
Seat 3: Artur Lesley (3,466,680 in chips)
Seat 4: serioga112 (1,119,391 in chips)
Seat 5: gadou50 (1,874,038 in chips)
Seat 6: rompstomp69 (594,496 in chips)
Seat 7: JeanGrae (628,799 in chips)
Seat 8: bbhype (397,694 in chips)
Seat 9: troesma (974,976 in chips)
The second hand of the final table produced its first elimination, JennyNicks' case 165,500 going into the pot on a T♥9♣4♣ flop. JennyNicks led with K♣J♣ for straight and flush draws while emerald road turned up Q♠J♥ for an open-ender. Once again, emerald road caught an out on the river, the K♠ falling to make him a king-high straight. JennyNicks was out in ninth place, earning $114.79.
serioga112 sacks bbhype
Short stack bbhype had 200,000 committed in the big blind when serioga112 opened for a raise with A♦J♣. Bbhype called off his last 197,694, turning up two live cards with 3♣7♠. Although bbhype missed the T♥T♠5♠ flop, the 3♥ on the turn gave him two pair. The reprieve was all-too-brief, though, as serioga112 caught the J♥ on the river to make a better two pair, ending bbhype's run in eighth place.
gadou50 guts JeanGrae
Action didn't slow for even one hand. On the next deal, Gadou50 opened for a raise with A♥T♦ and JeanGrae three-bet to 600,000 with A♦Q♥. Both players hit top pair and JeanGrae made top two on the A♣Q♣9♠ flop. Naturally, the rest of JeanGrae's money went in, but gadou50 hit running cards to make a queen-high straight, the turn and river falling the 8♦ and the J♠. Suckout complete, JeanGrae exited in seventh place, earning $330.87.
Artur Lesley levels rompstomp69, snuffs out serioga112
Another deal, another elimination. This time, rompstomp69 open-raised all-in for 294,496 and Artur Lesley called the balance from the 200,000 big blind. Rompstomp69 had the preflop lead with A♦J♠ over 7♠9♥, but Artur Lesley hit top pair on the 7♥4♣2♣ flop. Rompstomp69 did not improve and was out in sixth place, collecting $465.92.
With five players remaining, gadou50 and Artur Lesely were virtually tied for the chip lead with 3.6 and 3.5 million respectively. Emerald road wasn't far behind with 2.9 million, serioga112 had 2 million, and toesma was the short stack with 1.3 million.
Artur Lesley crippled serioga112 in a 4 million chip pot, pounding away with his A♠Q♠ until he rivered top pair:
Left with 257,000, serioga112 open-shoved on the next hand with K♠5♠. Both gadou50 and troesma called from the blinds, troesma betting gadou50 out of the hand on the T♦5♣3♦ flop. Sadly for serioga112, troesma turned over T♠5♥ for two pair and unable to catch a king on the turn or river, serioga112 hit the rail in fifth place.
emerald road dead-ends
Artur Lesley next set his sights on emerald road and raked in a 3.5 million pot when his J♦9♦ flopped a jack against emerald road's K♠3♠. A few hands later, emerald road put the last of his chips in on the river with A♥K♦, the board reading T♥5♥7♥Q♣3♦. Artur Lesley called with Q♥J♦, having turned top pair, and emerald road's tournament came to an end in fourth place.
troesma takes third
With only 447,438 remaining at 300,000/600,000 betting limits, troesma had to be thrilled to get another pay jump and moved the rest of his chips in on the next deal. Both Artur Lesely and gadou50 called, then checked down the 2♥2♦3♣K♥3♥ board. Gadou50's K♣7♥ was good and he took down the pot with kings and threes as troesma departed in third place.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 3: Artur Lesley (8,144,719 in chips)
Seat 5: gadou50 (5,360,281 in chips)
As soon a troesma hit the rail, Artur Lesley and gadou50 paused the action to discuss a deal. They quickly came to an agreement on a chip count chop and with $200 left to play for, cards went back in the air.
The chip lead swung back and forth several times before Artur Lesley took control. After raising preflop to 800,000 and getting the K♥J♥2♥ flop, Artur Lesley fired again on the turn when the 4♣ hit. Gadou50 called, and the 5♥ fell on the river, putting four hearts on the board. Gadou50 turned around and led out for 800,000 but Artur Lesley called, turning over 4♠6♥. Gadou50 didn't have a heart, only Q♠T♣ for a busted straight draw and Artur Lesley moved up to more than 10 million in chips.
Down to 3.3 million, gadou50 bluffed at a pot on the flop and turn with what turned out to be the best hand, but Artur Lesley's ship came in on the river, his 6♣7♦ turning an eight-high straight to seal the win:
Kudos to Artur Lesley on beating out 2,700 players to capture a MicroMillions title! He took home $2,010.77 for the win while runner-up gadou50 earned $1,727.36.
