MicroMillions III: baterflay flays them in Event #88 ($4.40+R NLHE 6-Max)
The MicroMillions III has given away millions of dollars in cash prizes over the last ten days, but only a few events have seen players turn their tiny entry fee into five-figure returns. Sure, four figures is nice, but five figures is starting to get into some serious money that can make a real difference in someone's life. Well, Event #88 of the MicroMillions III provided four players with five figure payouts after a deal saw savana_puma pocket $14,190 while Latvia's baterflay captured the MicroMillions III title.
It was the $4.40 No Limit Holdem 6-Max Rebuy Event with a field of 9,176 taking part. They combined for 17,371 rebuys and another 4,853 add-ons to create a massive $125,600 prize pool to more than double the advertised guarantee.
There were a few Team PokerStars Pros in this one, with two of them falling within ten spots of the money for the top 1,200 players. Japan's Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara was bundled out in 1,210th place while Czech Martin "AABenjaminAA" Hrubý was unfortunately our bubble boy in 1,201st place. While we're sure that missing out on a $23.86 min-cash won't worry Hrubý too much, the pain of the bubble is never fun, no matter what the buy-in. Ana Marquez and Mickey Petersen also failed to cash in this event.
When SultanSidi13's K♠8♦ failed to improve to better savana_puma's T♠T♥, our final table was set:
Final Table Line up
Seat 1: Godfatti (10,827,132 in chips)
Seat 2: savana_puma (34,591,659 in chips)
Seat 3: 30121981 (7,715,713 in chips)
Seat 4: ////a805 (10,004,546 in chips)
Seat 5: baterflay (8,681,116 in chips)
Seat 6: BonGjek (32,085,834 in chips)
With two big chips leaders, the pressure was on the other four to jockey for position. There was some early chat about a potential six-way deal, and the clock was indeed paused for a few minutes for the players to look at the numbers. But despite being one of the short stacks, ////a805 demanded a minimum $12,000 which was over double the amount that the deal was offering! It was no surprise that the deal was squashed and the cards quickly back in the air.
It seemed to be a wise decision for some as the short stacks landed a few doubles.
////a805 found a quick double up with 7♦7♥ against BonGjek's K♦A♦, as baterflay did the same with A♥A♠ against BonGjek's K♦Q♣. It was then Godfatti's turn with 9♣9♥ flopping a full house to better savana_puma's J♣A♠ as the short stacks fought back.
It was a different story though for 30121981 as the fourth short stack of the group. 30121981 shoved T♦K♠ and was called in the big blind by BonGjek with 9♠Q♠ with the board running out T♥Q♥3♥Q♦K♦. Three queens beat three pair as 30121981 was first to the cashier in 6th place for $1,884.
Moments later, the stubborn resistance of ////a805 came to an end. ////a805 three-bet shoved A♠T♠ but the timing was awry as savana_puma called with Q♥Q♠. The board ran out 6♦K♣4♥2♦5♦ leaving the pair in front and eliminating ////a805 in 5th place for $2,826, or about half of the proposed deal from a little earlier.
With ////a805 out of the way the remaining four players quickly took another look at the numbers with chips as follows:
Seat 1: Godfatti (13,734,264 in chips)
Seat 2: savana_puma (56,913,619 in chips)
Seat 5: baterflay (13,972,232 in chips)
Seat 6: BonGjek (19,285,885 in chips)
savana_puma was in a commanding position, and as such, the chip chop numbers were a little biased towards the chip leader. Godfatti suggested $10k each for the shorties and the rest to savana_puma, but BonGjek wanted a little extra. He asked for $11k and a gracious savana_puma obliged as the deal was struck.
savana_puma said, "i agree happy christmas guys i'm tired"
savana_puma said, "lets gamble"
Godfatti was happy to do exactly that after shoving a little over seven big blinds from the button with T♣7♣. baterflay made the call in the big blind with 5♣A♠ with ace-high enough on the board of J♠4♦2♣2♠K♥. A favourable deal for Godfatti netted $10,000 for 4th place.
BonGjek soon followed in 3rd place when three-bet shoving 5♦A♦. baterflay made the all with a dominant A♣8♥ with the kicker playing on a board of 4♦Q♥2♣Q♠K♣. BonGjek finished the tournament in 3rd place and received $11,000.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 2: savana_puma (35,158,064 in chips)
Seat 5: baterflay (68,747,936 in chips)
baterflay held a near two-to-one chip lead and extended in the early stages, but savana_puma fought back with a couple of double ups, the second with a nice hand holding pocket kings:
The ace didn't scare savana_puma from calling with pocket kings and the double up was secured. savana_puma moved into the chip lead, but the advantage was short-lived.
baterflay doubled up with top pair holding A♥7♦ on a flop of A♦4♦K♣ against the Q♦6♦ flush draw of savana_puma. The turn was the Q♣ to give savana_puma more outs for the win, but the river K♠ put baterflay back in control before the final hand went down:
savana_puma caught hope with a duck on the flop but the five on the turn was enough for baterflay to take down the pot for the victory! savana_puma took the lion's share of the loot with $14,190 in prize money after a great deal, while baterflay collects $11,000 and the title of MicroMillions champion!
