MicroMillions III: boone79s wins Event #33 ($2.20+R NLHE 2x-Turbo)
Another MicroMillions event, another guarantee smashed to bits. I'm sure even the PokerStars bean counters' eyes were raised when Event #33 more than doubled its $75K guaranteed prize pool. In all, 17,188 players made 48,707 rebuys and 10,769 add-ons to leave $153,328 up for grabs. 2,250 players earned a piece of it, and less than six hours after cards went in the air, Hungary's boone79s came away with the $17,945.01 first-place prize, no final table deal necessary.
The 2x-Turbo format meant a rebuy period twice as long as the typical 30 minutes and after 2 hours and 20 minutes of play, the money bubble burst. Red Spades Richard "Tzen1" Veenman, Martin Staszko, Marcin Horecki, Martin Hruby, Anders "Donald" Berg, Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara, Henrique Pinho, Matthias De Meulder, and Grzegorz "DaWarsaw" Miekelewicz all missed the cut, leaving Victor Ramdin (1,484th place) as the only Team Pro to cash.
The field down to ten players and the blinds up to 750,000/1,500,000, tiago saci open-shoved from the button for 14.1 million and Ironman669 called all-in for 5 million from the big blind. Tiago saci's T♥T♣ held up against A♥J♥ on the king-high board and Ironman669 ended his run in tenth place, setting the final table.
Final table chip counts
Seat 1: fominos (30,029,088 in chips)
Seat 2: doomasiggy (42,716,006 in chips)
Seat 3: luckbird3584 (14,622,144 in chips)
Seat 4: MorphMan12 (41,085,886 in chips)
Seat 5: hirjo (19,368,631 in chips)
Seat 6: boone79s (36,083,632 in chips)
Seat 7: Stollinho (14,610,793 in chips)
Seat 8: TimyDolaric (18,741,296 in chips)
Seat 9: tiago saci (22,222,524 in chips)
Luckbird3584 wasn't long for this final table, check-calling all-in on a 6♦3♣3♠ flop against MorphMan12. Although luckbird3584 flopped top pair with 6♥T♥, it was no match for MorphMan12's pocket sevens. Unable to improve, luckbird3584 went out in ninth place, earning $919.96.
MorphMan12, however, didn't hang onto those chips for long. He doubled up Stollinho a couple of hands later, his pocket deuces falling to A♣K♠ when a king hit the river. Tiago saci also found an early double-up, his 9♦7♥ turning a nine against fominos' A♣5♠, as did TimyDolaric, when his Q♥T♠ flopped a queen vs. hirjo's A♦4♠.
MorphMan12 worked his way back to slightly more than the 41 million he took to the final table, but lost over half his stack to fominos when his A♣6♦ fell to A♦9♦. Down to 16.6 million, MorphMan12 picked up J♦J♥ on the next hand and three-bet shoved from the big blind. Initial raiser fominos called with A♦T♥, but hit running straight cards to eliminate MorphMan12, the board running out 9♣8♥2♦7♥6♣. For eighth place, MorphMan12 took home $1,379.95 while fominos moved into the chip lead with 74.8 million.
Fominos' set sacks TimyDolari, boone79s snaps off queens
Short stack hirjo got a reprieve, doubling his four big blind stack when his K♣9♣ flopped a king against TimyDolari's A♣8♥. Next to shove was doomasiggy, who three-bet all-in for 26 million from the big blind with A♦K♦. Fominos called with T♥T♠ and promptly flopped a set, sending doomasiggy to the rail in seventh place.
Four hands later, the action folded to boone79s in the cutoff. With three smaller stacks behind him, boone79s open-shoved for 43.4 million with K♣7♣, but ran straight into Stollinho's Q♥Q♠ on the button. Boone79s needed a king and got there when the flop fell K♥J♥9♦. Although Stollinho picked up a gutshot straight draw, he never improved and exited in sixth place, banking $3,833.20.
Boone79s was second in chips with nearly 73 million as play turned five-handed, but he quickly gave about a third of them away to hirjo, who called boone79s's three-bet shove with K♦T♥. Boone79s had the preflop advantage with A♦5♠, but hirjo spiked a king on the turn and a ten on the river, doubling his stack to 64.6 million.
Only minutes later, running cards saved hirjo's tournament life once again, but in far more dramatic fashion. After opening for a raise to 8.4 million from UTG, hirjo faced a 28.4 million shove from TimyDolaric on the button. Hirjo made the call with A♣Q♦ and was up against T♦T♣. But this was no ordinary coinflip. Although TimyDolaric flopped a set of tens, hirjo conjured up another miracle and caught running queens to make quads:
Hirjo rocketed into the chip lead with 94.8 million as a bewildered TimyDolaric collected $5,366.48 for fifth place
Although hirjo held the top spot, fominos was still a major threat, and with 93.9 million in chips, had nearly as much ammo. Boone79s changed that in a hurry, though, doubling from 33.7 to 69.9 million when his Q♠K♠ rivered a queen against fominos' pocket threes. Down to 54.1 million, fominos set his sights on tiago saci, still riding a short stack with 13.3 million at 1.4M/2.8M blinds. When tiago saci open-shoved from the small blind, fominos was all-too-happy to call from the big blind with A♣K♣ and hit a king on the flop to crush tiago saci's Q♠J♥. Tiago saci couldn't conjure up any turn or river magic and hit the rail in fourth place, earning $6,899.76.
Boone79s proceeded to go on a tear, winning the first seven three-handed pots to move past the 100 million mark while fominos sank to 39.9 million. Ultimately, fominos got his chips in with A♣4♥, but couldn't improve against boone79s's A♠Q♣. For third place, fominos picked up $9,966.32.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 5: hirjo (91,374,597 in chips)
Seat 6: boone79s (148,105,403 in chips)
Despite the lack of a deal, this tournament was settled within three hands. After a couple trades of the blinds, hirjo bluffed all-in on the turn with ace high, but boone79s looked him up with top pair and sealed the win:
Congratulations to boone79s on fading over 17,000 players to capture a MicroMillions title! He picked up $17,945.01 for the win while runner-up hirjo earned $13,032.88.
