MicroMillions III: From Russia with lovilave in Event #70 ($5.50 NLHE)

We've seen some wild and wicked final tables during the MicroMillions III series, but Event #70 was right up there for bad beats, crazy aggression and dubious plays. It would take a lot of skill, patience and a few good cards to claim victory and Russia's lovilave did exactly that to take the $7,339.66 first place prize.

Event #70 of the MicroMillions III series brought 9,971 players together for the $5.50 No Limit Holdem Event. The prize pool guarantee was easily beaten as a pool of $49,855 would be distributed to the top 1,260 players.

We couldn't find any Team PokerStars Pros in the field but we did find that Clem90340 from Luxembourg was the unfortunate bubble in 1,261st place, narrowly missing the $8.97 min-cash.

When ToonPRO's A♠9♥ failed to get past the J♥J♣ of bobbyz77, ToonPRO was out on the final table bubble in 10th place with the final table line up formed as follows:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: SnoopIzumi (1,195,436 in chips)
Seat 2: Miki1705 (761,012 in chips)
Seat 3: Henry Thomas (6,883,896 in chips)
Seat 4: perocar5 (8,144,234 in chips)
Seat 5: gerarddirk (2,278,666 in chips)
Seat 6: bobbyz77 (9,211,891 in chips)
Seat 7: ciulbuonelis (5,478,066 in chips)
Seat 8: PhoenixFuson (14,165,755 in chips)
Seat 9: lovilave (1,736,044 in chips)

PhoenixFuson held a fair chunk of the chips in play, and with the blinds starting the final table at 70k/140k/17.5k, there were several short stacks under pressure. One of those was Miki1705 who decided to move all in from under the gun on the very first hand of the final table. gerarddirk made the call with 2♥A♠ and would've been relieved to see Miki1705 table K♥J♥. The board fell 8♦T♦A♦2♦T♣ to improve gerarddirk to aces and tens, which was too much for Miki1705 who was out in 9th place for $386.37.

PhoenixFuson extended the advantage out in front with a nice call down of bets on the turn and river from perocar5 on the board of 7♥5♠9♦Q♠2♦. perocar5 showed K♦5♣ for a pair of fives but PhoenixFuson's Q♣6♣ top pair was good.

PhoenixFuson continued to flex the muscles as SnoopIzumi was quickly dispatched in 8th place. SnoopIzumi moved all in preflop with 9♥9♣ and was racing with PhoenixFuson's A♦K♦ but the board of 6♥J♥K♠A♣3♣ paired PhoenixFuson twice for the knockout blow. SnoopIzumi received $548.40 for a fine tournament.

lovilave landed one double up with ace-queen spiking a lady on the river to better PhoenixFuson's pocket threes and then repeated the dose the very next hand:

PhoenixFuson turned a flush but it wasn't enough as lovilave had an unbeatable full house for yet another double up.

PhoenixFuson was still out in front but gerarddirk was next to crack. It was a multi-way flop of Q♠Q♦2♥ that did the damage as gerarddirk made a move all in on a stone-cold bluff with 7♦8♦, but perocar5 was trapping with Q♥J♦ for trip queens and made the call. The 5♥ turn and 6♣ river completed the board to leave gerarddirk crippled.

Shortly after gerarddirk moved all in for a tick over two big blinds with 2♦Q♥ but couldn't improve enough to get past perocar5's J♣J♥ when the board was spread 8♦A♥3♣6♥5♣. gerarddirk took home $997.10 for 7th place.

ciulbuonelis had been quiet but made some noise with a huge double up through PhoenixFuson. perocar5 had raised under the gun before ciulbuonelis moved all in. PhoenixFuson hadn't committed any chips to the pot, but decided to cold call and gamble with 4♠4♣. perocar5 got out of the way as ciulbuonelis tabled a monster Q♣Q♥. The board fell 6♥8♥8♦7♠T♠ to see the chip lead change hands.

ciulbuonelis moved further in front when Henry Thomas moved all in for 16 big blinds with A♦8♣. ciulbuonelis was in the big blind with A♣K♥ and made the easy call, with "Big Slick" holding true on the 2♥7♣4♣A♥3♣ board. $1,495.65 headed down under to Henry Thomas for 6th place.

The slide of PhoenixFuson continued as perocar5 caught a fortunate river card to land a double up:

perocar5 spiked a pair of sevens on the river to double up as the slide of PhoenixFuson continued.

PhoenixFuson found a double up with pocket sevens against the jack-nine of ciulbuonelis but gave it back the very next hand with another ambitious preflop call. PhoenixFuson raised and then called it off with Q♥8♥ to be in disastrous shape against lovilave who had shoved with Q♠Q♦. The board of 3♦9♠7♥J♠2♥ brought no surprises as PhoenixFuson was back on the short stack.

PhoenixFuson didn't relent but the wild play eventually took its toll. PhoenixFuson min-raised with T♣2♣ and then call off the last chips when perocar5 re-raised with K♣T♠. The board of 6♠9♣A♠5♥J♥ missed both players, leaving perocar5's king-ten high in front to take it down. At one point PhoenixFuson held a massive chip lead, but just as quickly it disappeared, to see PhoenixFuson collect $1,994.20 for 5th place.

The resurgence of perocar5 was also short-lived, and again it was a rather confusing hand:

perocar5 was looking good to double up with the jacks after ciulbuonelis made an intriguing call with just ace-high, but incredibly the turn and river delivered a backdoor flush to take the pot and eliminate perocar5 in spectacular fashion. perocar5 will have to be content with $2.492.75 for 4th place.

bobbyz77 was next to go with a three-bet shove holding A♣8♠. lovilave had started the action with a raise, and was happy to make the call with 9♦9♠. The board bricked out Q♣4♥7♥2♦5♠ to give lovilave the pot and see bobbyz77 take $3,739.12 back to Jamaica for 3rd place.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 7: ciulbuonelis (27,400,000 in chips)
Seat 9: lovilave (22,455,000 in chips)

It was pretty close and the players had plenty of room to move, but the aggressive nature of this final table continued in this heads-up battle as the two players didn't take long to play out the final hand.

lovilave had chipped up into the lead and opened the button with a min-raise. ciulbuonelis three-bet and lovilave called in position to see a flop of 3♦K♣6♠. The continuation bet of ciulbuonelis was called and the Q♣ appeared on the turn. ciulbuonelis checked it over to lovilave who made a bet, but ciulbuonelis responded by check-raising all in. lovilave wasn't going anywhere and quickly made the call with K♠3♥ for two pair as ciulbuonelis' turned pair of queens with 7♣Q♠ was well behind. ciulbuonelis would need another lady on the river but it wasn't to be as the 9♣ completed the board to crown our champion. ciulbuonelis received $5,359.41 for 2nd place as Russian lovilave takes the title and a very nice $7,339.66 in prize money.
