MicroMillions III: Souler777 crushes Event 85 ($2.22+R NLHE Turbo Saturday Splash)

Souler777 came to the final table of Event 85 with a medium stack. After taking a hit from Romanov59, Souler777 doubled back to stay in action, and eliminating sergei167 helped increase that stack. Pure aggression after a three-way deal put Souler777 face-to-face with Romanov59 in heads-up play, and the double-up on the very first hand was all it took. Strong play moved Souler777 to the top and the winner's circle.

As the MicroMillions III soars through the final weekend of tournaments, it only made sense to mimic the success of the previous weekend by including the Saturday Splash in the mix. The regular Saturday player favorite became Event 85, and the $150K guarantee was in place for the $2.20 NLHE tournament with rebuys. The 3x-turbo schedule gave players five-minute levels, so action was assured in every level along the way.

Players were allowed unlimited rebuys of 3,000 chips each for $2.02 for the first 90 minutes of play. They also had the opportunity to add-on another 30,000 chips for $2.02 at the end of the rebuy period. When all of that was said, done, and calculated, the numbers were as follows:

Players: 19,438
Rebuys: 75,487
Add-ons: 9,417
Guarantee: $150,000.00
Prize pool: $210,770.84
Paid players: 2,475

The money bubble burst just after the last Team PokerStars Pro Christophe "chrisdm" De Meulder, exited the tournament in 2,484th place. Several spots later, WaffleBubble did not bubble but was the first to receive the $18.96 minimum payout of the event.

Three tables became two nearly 20 minutes past the five-hour mark, and play moved quickly. In about 20 minutes, the 11th place finish of JUST_FORTUNA led to the all-in of Cruze626 with A-J, but A-Q dominated and flopped a queen, then turned another one. Cruze626 had to leave in tenth place with $780.39.

Drogentester and schlave dominate

Play at the final table began in Level 62, with blinds at 2M/4M with a 400,000 ante, along with these players' starting stacks:

Seat 1: jimbob781 (66,883,283 in chips)
Seat 2: Romanov59 (55,055,296 in chips)
Seat 3: Souler777 (62,745,123 in chips)
Seat 4: schlave (103,621,949 in chips)
Seat 5: R4NG3RS-WATP (32,036,232 in chips)
Seat 6: devsdynamite (51,411,254 in chips)
Seat 7: Drogentester (104,988,160 in chips)
Seat 8: sergei167 (73,377,583 in chips)
Seat 9: madaJAP (17,166,120 in chips)

The very first hand produced action as R4NG3R-WATP raised and sergei167 responded by reraising all-in from the big blind. R4NG3RS-WATP called all-in with A♣J♣, but sergei167 showed A♦K♦. The flop of 9♥J♠8♠ made the pair of jacks and looked good for the double-up, and the 6♣ on the turn changed nothing. But the K♣ on the river hit hard to eliminate R4NG3RS-WATP in ninth place, a finish that was worth $1,264.62.

Just two hands after that, madaJAP moved all-in from the small blind. Original raiser schlave called with Q♥J♦, and madaJAP showed 9♦9♣ for the race. The flop of K♥J♥7♦ gave schlave the pair of jacks, though, and the 2♠ on the turn and 2♥ on the river only gave each player two pair. The worse two pair belonged to madaJAP, who exited in eighth place with $1,896.93.

Devsdynamite, winner of a 2011 SCOOP title, made headway in this tournament with a double-up through schlave. Soon after, though, devsdynamite was still on the short stack and made a move against Drogentester. The all-in move from devsdynamite came with A♥5♣, and Drogentester called with a dominating A♠Q♣. The board of 9♠K♠3♣J♦Q♥ only improved Drogentester's hand by pairing it on the river, and devsdynamite was denied this title. The seventh place finish was worth $3,161.56.

Romanov59's rise, jimbob781 takes over

Romanov59 took a pot worth 93 million chips from Souler777 to soar into first place. Two hands later, Souler777 doubled back through Romanov59 to chip away at the latter's lead, but Romanov59 remained near the top of the leaderboard.

The very next hand was a massive one. Jimbob781 started with a raise, and schlave reraised all-in from the button. Sergei167 pushed all-in over the top from the big blind, and jimbob781 called all-in. Sergei167 had them covered and showed K♦K♠, while schlave was at risk with A♣J♣ and jimbob781 was on the line with 7♠7♣. The board came 6♦3♥7♥8♠T♦, and the set of sevens won the main pot. Sergei167 collected the side pot, but schlave departed in sixth place with $5,269.27.

Three hands after that, sergei167 got involved with Souler777 to see a raised flop of K♠Q♥A♠. Sergei167 bet, and Souler777 check-called. The 9♦ on the turn prompted sergei167 to bet all-in with A♥A♦, but Souler777 called and showed J♦T♣ for the flopped straight. The 6♦ finished it on the river for sergei167, who left in fifth place with $7,376.97.

Romanov59 then took several big pots in a row, including this one, to jump back into a solid second place:

Drogentester then moved all-in from the button with A♦4♥, and jimbob781 called from the small blind with A♥J♥. Nothing on the board of 6♣7♣7♥8♥9♦ could save Drogentester, who was eliminated in fourth place with $9,484.68.

Top three deal

The final three players paused the action to discuss a deal, and they quickly agreed to the chop numbers provided. With $3,000 in additional money set aside for the winner, the payouts were guaranteed as follows:

Seat 1: jimbob781 (216,798,172 in chips) = $17,621.99
Seat 2: Romanov59 (170,651,780 in chips) = $16,787.20
Seat 3: Souler777 (179,835,048 in chips) = $16,953.33

A few hands after that break, Romanov59 took over with this hand:

Souler777 doubled through jimbob781, and the latter moved all-in on the very next hand with K♣3♣. Romanov59 called with Q♣Q♦, and that pair held up to the 9♥5♣6♥4♠T♥ board. Jimbob781 was eliminated in third place with $17,621.99.

Action-packed heads-up

The final battle started with these chip counts:

Seat 2: Romanov59 (436,118,464 in chips)
Seat 3: Souler777 (131,166,536 in chips)

The very first hand of the match saw Souler777 double through Romanov59 to thin the divide between the two remaining players. It happened as shown here:

Souler777 then turned on the aggression and chipped away at Romanov59. Finally, the two got involved in the final hand. The raised flop of J♦8♥9♠ started things off, and Souler777 bet. Romanov59 check-raised, and Souler777 called. The 3♦ on the turn brought a bet from Romanov59 and call from Souler777. The 2♠ on the river prompted Romanov59 to bet again, and Souler777 raised that time. Romanov59 called all-in with T♦9♣ for the pair of nines, but Souler777 showed A♣A♠ for the overpair and the win. Romanov59 had to accept second place and $16,787.20.

Souler777 of Russia won the MicroMillions III title and $19,953.33. Congrats!
