MicroMillions III: YordanPetrov Binks Event 49 for Bulgaria ($8.80 HORSE)
YordanPetrov was strong from the start of the final table and all the way through. Going into heads-up with a chip deficit only meant waiting for a few key hands with which to chip up, and that's just what the champion did. Patience was the key, and through all of the games, YordanPetrov showed that he could represent Bulgaria all the way to the winner's circle.
For a series like the MicroMillions, an $8.80 buy-in may seem high for some players. But those who are fans of HORSE (Hold'em, Omaha, Razz Stud, and Stud H/L), they seek all opportunities to compete. Whether experienced in all of the games or merely skilled in some and interested in the rest, players enjoy a mixed tournament. Put a $15K guarantee on it and award a MicroMillions title to its winner, and you have a healthy field of poker players.
A 120-minute registration period gave people plenty of time to get in on the action, and the final numbers were then announced:
Prize pool: $26,544.00
Paid players: 440
Of the thousands of players in action, only one with a Team PokerStars logo made it into the money. Team Online's Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara finished in 411th place for $13.80.
Payouts increased steadily, and they hopped over three figures at the point that there were two tables remaining. That happened about six hours into the tournament, and play moved ever closer to the final table in the next 30 minutes.
In Omaha H/L, Zbad committed a short stack all-in from the big blind after an UTG raise from YordanPetrov. YordanPetrov called with A♠2♣Q♥6♠, and Zbad showed 7♠Q♦K♠T♥. The board came J♥8♣4♥Q♣2♥, and YordanPetrov scooped the pot with the high and low. Zbad exited in ninth place with $179.17.
Tight race for chip lead
The final table began with Omaha H/L in Level 72, with blinds of 160,000/320,000 and these starting player stacks:
Seat 1: mrsbeer (3,151,912 in chips)
Seat 2: spanisfish91 (4,124,280 in chips)
Seat 3: telepope (884,099 in chips)
Seat 4: Hektor001 (1,580,790 in chips)
Seat 5: small199 (1,892,317 in chips)
Seat 6: Desslock (594,146 in chips)
Seat 7: Kireage2 (1,230,216 in chips)
Seat 8: YordanPetrov (3,132,240 in chips)
The first hand was worth 2.96 million and won by YordanPetrov, catapulting that player into the number one spot on the leaderboard. Telepope doubled through small199, and then short-stacked Desslock doubled through telepope.
The Stud round brought another all-in move. It happened on third street after Kireage2 raised and small199 reraised. Kireage2 called all-in and ended up with 6♣7♥8♣2♥A♦3♣7♣, but small had J♥K♠Q♣A♠Q♦T♠7♦ for the straight. Kireage2 was the first to be eliminated from the table, taking home $245.53 for eighth place.
Small199 doubled through telepope, and mrsbeer doubled through small199.
On to Hold'em, Hektor001 tried for the double and called all-in after a raise from spanisfish91. Hektor001's tournament was on the line with K♣7♥, but spanisfish91 had an opponent in telepope. The two checked the T♥3♠8♣ flop, and a bet from spanisfish91 on the turn of 6♠ brought a check-call from telepope. Another bet on the J♠ river prompted telepope to fold, though, and spanisfish91 showed T♦T♣ for the flopped set. Hektor001 exited in seventh place with $504.07.
YordanPetrov begins the takeover
Two hands later, telepope raised, and YordanPetrov reraised. Telepope made another raise to cap the betting, and YordanPetrov called. The flop came T♦3♣9♥, and a bet led to a raise telepope ultimately called all-in with A♥T♣. But top pair wasn't good enough for the J♥J♦ of YordanPetrov, which remained the best hand as the 4♦ and 9♣ finished the board. Telepope was out in sixth place with $796.32.
The Omaha H/L round brought small199 into the spotlight as betting was capped in a hand against spanisfish91. The flop came 9♣7♣A♣, and small199 pushed all-in. Spanisfish91 called with 2♣5♠2♠7♥ for two pair, and small199 showed Q♣3♠A♦4♥ for top pair. But the 7♦ on the turn made trips for spanisfish91, and the K♣ on the river officially sent small199 out in firth place with $1,327.20.
Desslock risked his short stack against YordanPetrov, and the two split the pot when Desslock took the high hand and YordanPetrov the low. The two then tangled on the next hand, but mrsbeer got involved as well. Mrsbeer moved all-in UTG, and Desslock and YordanPetrov both called. The 4♦6♥J♥ flop prompted Desslock to push all-in with 3♠4♣4♠6♠, and YordanPetrov called with Q♦T♠7♥8♣. Mrsbeer showed A♦T♥J♣A♠ but failed to improve on the 3♥ turn or 7♣ river. Desslock took the high with the set of fours, and YordanPetrov took the low, Mrsbeer departed in fourth place with $1,858.08.
Desslock was involved in the next hand as well. It started with an UTG raise from Desslock and call from YordanPetrov in the small blind. But spanisfish91 reraised from the big blind, and Desslock called all-in. YordanPetrov called. The flop came 9♥2♠A♦, and spanisfish91 bet, prompting a fold from YordanPetrov. Spanisfish91 showed J♣3♣J♦A♣, and Desslock had T♣T♠2♣8♠. The Q♥ on the turn changed nothing, but the 3♦ on the river only gave spanisfish91 two pair. With no low hand, Desslock had to leave in third place with $2,388.96.
Spanisfish91 leads but flounders
The final two players began heads-up with these stacks:
Seat 2: spanisfish91 (9,187,030 in chips)
Seat 8: YordanPetrov (7,402,970 in chips)
In Razz, YordanPetrov took a pot worth 4.92 million chips to take the lead by a few chips, and a subsequent hand in razz for 6.72 million gave YordanPetrov more than a two-to-one lead. Spanisfish91 made an attempt at a comeback, but it all came down to one final Stud hand.
It started with a raise from YordanPetrov with 8♦ showing and a reraised from spanisfish91 with 3♥ on the table. YordanPetrov called and took a K♥, then checked. The 9♦ for spanisfish91 prompted a bet, and YordanPetrov raised. Spanisfish91 called and received a 6♠ against the J♥ of YordanPetrov. A bet led to a raise and reraise, and spanisfish91 called all-in with 5♣5♠3♥9♦6s]. YordanPetrov had J♠Q♦8♦K♥J♥ and received an A♦ and T♦ to finish with a straight. Spanisfish91 took A♣ and 7♥ and had to accept second place money of $3,185.28.
YordanPetrov of Bulgaria won the tournament and $4,514.52. Congrats!
