SCOOP: Eetu takes down massive field in Event #1 $5.50 plus rebuys NLHE

Finnish player Eetu100 took down the $5.50 plus rebuys 6-max No-Limit Hold'em event that helped usher in PokerStars' Spring Championship of Online Poker on Thursday.

The low version of the opening SCOOP event drew a whopping 27,134 entries, who made 45,438 rebuys and 14,434 add-ons, creating a prize pool of slightly more than $435,000. The winner would receive $41,562.

Even though the tournament format called for six players to each table it took plenty of time to pare the 27,134 players to a final table. After 14 and a half hours of play, the final six were finally set. Seating and chip counts were as follows:

Seat 1 - Eetu100 31,445,108
Seat 2 - AragonX 20,033,808
Seat 3 - bakter9 57,694,718
Seat 4 - canucko 65,111,588
Seat 5 - jw32123 22,739,096
Seat 6 - MrWhite 34,907,182

It didn't take long to narrow this field as AragonX departed on the first hand of the final table. The action was folded to Eetu100, who raised to 2 million from the small blind. Aragon called in the big blind for another 1.5 million. After a flop of T♥ 5♣ K♣ Eetu100 led out for 3.5 million and AragonX shoved all-in for a total of 18 million. Eetu100 thought and called, showing K♦ 4♦ while AragonX held A♠ T♣. The turn was the Q♦ and the river brought the K♠, sending AragonX out in sixth with $3,045.22.

Action got heavy with blinds at 400K and 800K. MrWhite, complete with a Harvey Keitel picture from "Reservoir Dogs", raised to 2 million from under the gun. Bakter9 called on the button and canucko pushed all-in for nearly 15 million from the small blind. MrWhite retreated, but bakter9 called with his 8♥ 8♦. Canucko looked to be in good shape with his A♥ Q♥ after a flop of 2♥ 4♦ A♦, but the turn brought the 8♠ to seal canucko's fate. This player took home $4,350.31 for the fifth-place finish.

Jw32123 suffered a cooler to go out only a few hands later. Bakter9 called from the small blind and jw32123 checked his option. Both players checked a flop of 7♠ 5♥ J♣, but the fireworks began after the 9♠ fell on the turn. Bakter9 led out for 2.4 million and jw32123 responded by moving all-in for 11.3 million. Bakter9 instantly called with J♥ J♠ and jw32123 was drawing dead with his 7♦ 5♠ for bottom two pair against top set. The meaningless 4♦ came on the river and jw32123 exited in fourth with $8,700.61.

After the short-stacked MrWhite doubled through bakter9 with two pair, the three players discussed a deal. At this point, Eetu100 had more than half the chips in play with nearly 123 million while bakter9 and MrWhite both had about 54 million apiece. Based strictly on chip equity, Eetu100 would have earned $46,321, which was more than the first-place prize. Failing to negotiate any other deal play continued.

Eetu100 would soon increase that big chip lead. With blinds at 500K/1M, he raised to 3 million from the button. Bakter9 then re-raised to 9 million from the small blind. Eetu100 just called in position. After a flop of A♦ 8♥ 9♠ bakter9 check-called an 8 million bet from Eetu100. The turn 7♦ resulted in another check-call - this time for 12 million. The A♣ fell on the river and bakter9 checked yet again. This time Eetu100 bet 26 million to put bakter9 all-in. He made the call with J♥ J♣ only to see Eetu100 show A♥ K♠ for the winner. Bakter9 finished in third and won $17,401.21. Not bad for an initial $5.50 investment.

Entering heads-up play Eetu100 enjoyed a monster chip lead of 188 million to 44 million. MrWhite was able to double up about 20 hands into heads-up play when he called for nearly all his stack with A♦ 8♠ on a board of 9♠ K♥ 8♣ 2♥ 6♠ as Eetu100 got caught bluffing with 7♥ 7♣. The hand brought MrWhite up to 78 million and within 2 to 1 in chips compared to his opponent's 154 million.

But then it was over in a flash. MrWhite raised the 1.4 million big blind to 4.2 million and Eetu100 called. Eetu100 led out for 4.2 million after a flop of A♣ 8♦ 9♣ and MrWhite raised to 14 million. Eetu100 came over the top for 32.2 million and MrWhite shoved in for his 80.3 million stack. Eetu100 called quickly with A♠ 8♥ and MrWhite had three outs with A♦ Q♠. The turn brought the 4♦ and the river sealed the deal after 16 long hours of play with the 2♠. MrWhite earned $29,364.53 for the runner-up finish while Eetu100 won $41,562.77 and a SCOOP Champion's watch for the victory.

Final table finishes and payouts were as follows:

First - Eetu100 ($41,562.77)
Second - MrWhite ($29,364.53)
Third - bakter9 ($17,401.21)
Fourth - jw32123 ($8,700.61)
Fifth - canucko ($4,350.31)
Sixth - AragonX ($3,045.22)
