SCOOP: union yes! thehoffa takes down Event #15-L 8-Game title

scoop2009_thn.gifWhen people think of a mixed game, some go back to their roots as a young player growing up with family poker games after dinner was cleared. Many players started their rounding skills playing kitchen table poker with aunts and uncles churning out games like no-peeky seven card baseball, guts, and follow-the-queen while chasing those nickels and dimes in the pot.

Today's online world brings the standard casino poker games into our living rooms. Games like Pot Limit Omaha, and Stud High-Low are now on the list of games that people might spread on a Saturday night with the Game of the Week playing in the background and someone's wife's chocolate chip cookies waiting for the unlucky player who's wrap draw did not get there.

Tonight 2,178 players anted up $40+$4 to a slightly bigger mixed game with no promises of fresh baked goods but at least a $25,000 prize pool guaranteed by PokerStars, as SCOOP Event # 15's 8-Game low-buy in tournament added to the series' huge success thus far. A $87,120 prize pool smashed the guarantee, paying out 390 players who fought their way through the rotation of 2-7 Triple Draw, Limit Hold Em', Limit Omaha 8 or Better, Razz, Stud Hi, Stud Hi-Lo, No Limit Hold Em', and Pot Limit Omaha.

A couple of Team PokerStars Pros dropped by for the ever-changing action. Gavin Griffin, Vanessa "LadyMaverick" Rousso, and Maridu Mayrinck tried their hands at the 8-game rotation tonight but did not repeat Hevad "RaiNKhaN" Khan's first place performance in Event #14's low buy-in and unfortunately failed to cash this evening.

The players below however did cash and played out the six player final table for the $13,721.41 first prize after thehoffa ran down trip eights K♠ 8♥ 8♣ / A♣ 5♣ 2♦ 8♦ in Stud-Hi to overcome happyfreaked jacks 6♠ 9♠ J♣ / 3♥ A♦ J♦ K♦ sending happyfreaked home in seventh place ($1,045.45).

Seat 1: SebbyGl (2965304 in chips)
Seat 2: thehoffa (1811539 in chips)
Seat 3: ÖniK (1622704 in chips)
Seat 4: King Kanius (554991 in chips)
Seat 5: MR. KY (2260480 in chips)
Seat 6: TheBigViking (1674982 in chips)

The final table started off with Stud Hi/Lo and limits at 50,000/100,000 with a 10,000 ante. SebbyGl came to the final table as the chip leader and scooped the very first hand with a 8-6 low and club flush showing 6♣ 4♣ 2♣ / 5♣ 8♦ 9♠ 8♣ for a 1.1 million chip pot. On the very next hand he would further solidify that lead by knocking out King Kanius in sixth place ($1,556.84). Showing the 5♠ King Kanius would complete OniK's bring-in to 50,000 and SebbyGl made the call with a 9♠. On fourth another bet and call as King Kanius showed 5♠4♠ with SebbyGl looking at 9♠7♣. Same on fifth as King Kanius drew a T♣ and SebbyGl a 5♦. King Kanius checked his Q♠ on sixth as SebbyGl bet the 3♦. King Kanius threw in the remaining 19,991 chips with ace high and a A♥ Q♠ 3♣ / K♣ 5♠ 4♠ T♣ ace-high board as SebbyGl's two pair 3♠ J♠ 9♥ / 9♠ 7♣ 5♦ 3♦ was good enough for the 714K scoop.

After switching to Pot Limit Omaha with 15,000/30,000 blinds, thehoffa faced elimination after getting all his 1.4 million chips in to the middle off the A♥ T♠ 5♣ flop against SebbyGl.

SebbyGl: 7♣ T♣ A♣ 9♠
thehoffa: Q♥ J♥ A♠ 6♠

The turned 4♣ would eliminate a few more outs for thehoffa as his tournament grave seemed to be dug for him. But, the river delivered the J♦ to avoid SebbyGl's flush draw and gave thehoffa a higher two pair and after collecting the 2.8 millionchip pot, thehoffa was back in the mix of things.

Next up deuce to seven triple draw proved to be a boon for MR. KY's chip stack. With blinds at 80,000/160,000 he would take home a 1.76 million chip pot to nearly double his stack, and then on the very next hand would eliminate OniK in fifth place. After folding around OniK would raise from the small blind with MR. KY calling the raise and drawing three. OniK continued to charge by betting after taking just one, but MR. KY surprised him by raising and OniK opted to call. On the second draw OniK took one as MR. KY rapped pat as the two would trade bets until all of OniK's chips made it into the middle creating a 1.78 million chip pot exposing the following hands:

ÖniK: 6♦ 8♥ 3♣ 2♣ 5♠
MR. KY: 4♦ 8♠ 5♦ 3♥ 2♦

A bit of a cooler as OniK made an 8-6 but was beat by MR. KY's smooth eight and OniK took leave with the $3,049.21 he earned in fifth place.

Two hands after TheBigViking would double up off MR. KY for a 1.4 million in the Limit Hold Em' section the players would briefly pause for some deal making. But, the Nordic warrior quashed any deal after chop number were given out and the four-handed game continued with blinds at 80,000/160,000. The non-deal was a boon for his chip stack as he would drag a 1.56 million chip pot off SebbyGl, then another 1.3 million chips in the first hand of Limit Omaha Eight or Better to reach the three million chip plateau.

SebbyGl's chip stack would take a sizable hit against TheBigViking in the 100,000/200,000 ante 20,000 Razz round when the TheBigViking's 7-6 had SebbyGl muck a board showing 7♦K♦2♣T♣ after calling all the way down for a 1.7 million chip pot. Then five hands later with only 680K left, SebbyGl would get the rest of his chips into the middle after starting with 5♦7♥/A♦ he would bet into MR. KY on fourth and fifth but the bricks piled up with Q♣J♣ on fourth and fifth as the rest of chips made it into the middle. MR. KY turned over 4♠7♦/3♦5♣5♠ for a sizable lead on the hand. A 2♠ for SebbyGl on sixth gave a little light for his board but MR. KY also caught good making his seven-five with the A♠ shutting down SebbyGl to a river three to win. The river didn't matter however as MR. KY actually improved to an unbeatable six-five with the 6♣ river and the shoveled in the 1.4 million chips as SebbyGl could not ride that strong final table start to victory and settled for fourth place ($4,791.61).

Don't think limit poker comes with swings? Here's the chip count starting the 120,000/240,000 ante 24,000 Stud-Hi round...

1. MR. KY (6022352 in chips)
2. TheBigViking (3377152 in chips)
3. thehoffa (1490496 in chips)

... and ten hands later

1. TheBigViking (5129152 in chips)
2. thehoffa (4034496 in chips)
3. MR. KY (1726352 in chips)

After losing another 800K immediately after the above chip count, MR. KY would get rest of those chips into the middle as the game switched to Stud Hi-Lo with the same 120,000/240,000 ante 24,000 limits. TheBigViking would bring in with the 2♥ as thehoffa raised with a 9♦ on the door and MR. KY three-bet with the A♠ getting TheBigViking to sit as thehoffa made the call. Bet and call the K♠ on fourth for thehoffa and 5♣ for MR. KY. Fifth showed a T♠ for thehoffa and 7♦ for MR. KY as the two traded bets until MR. KY was all-in:

thehoffa: 9♠ T♥ / 9♦ K♠ T♠
MR. KY: 7♠ 8♣ / A♠ 5♣ 7♦

Sevens and a low draw for MR. KY as thehoffa was in the lead with tens and nines. A♦ on sixth for thehoffa and a straight opening 9♥ for MR. KY, but the K♣ on seventh for MR. KY couldn't slip by thehoffa's made two pair and MR. KY exited smoothly in third place ($7,405.21).

thehoffa would start heads-up play in the lead and offer another chance to chop to TheBigViking but the gates of Valhalla still wouldn't budge to share the mead in a sign of unity for the remainder of the prize pool:

1. thehoffa (5880848 in chips)
2. TheBigViking (5009152 in chips)

The two players would play it out for the entire $13,721.41 and this battle would end quickly.

Four hands after MR. KY's elimination thehoffa would make a huge 800,000 chip call during the No Limit Hold Em' round on the river of a two million chip pot with 7♦ 8♥ and the board showing K♦ 8♣ 9♣ 4♠ 9♦. TheBigViking was forced to expose the T♦7♥ semi-bluff on every street as thehoffa dragged the big 3.6 million chip pot.

Another four hands later the two would finish the tourney with a preflop coin flip as TheBigViking raised from the button to 200,000 with the blinds at 40,000/80,000 ante 10,000. thehoffa answered with a three-bet to 800,000 total and with 3.2 million chips to start the hand, TheBigViking would shout his battle cry of all-in holding pocket sixes 6♥6♠. thehoffa would answer with a call holding A♣8♣. The 4♥ 8♠ 5♥ flop would provide some excitement giving thehoffa top pair-top kicker and TheBigViking now held an inside straight draw. The turned Q♥ added flush outs for TheBigViking, but he missed all of his outs with the Q♦ river and took the runner-up check for $10,018.81

Back from the grave, thehoffa fought through the union buster to claim the SCOOP Event #15-low buy in title and the $13,721.41 that came with it. Congrats to all of our final table cashers this evening and be sure to check the updated SCOOP leaderboard for best all-around player for even more prizes being given away.
