SCOOP: sethsethseth winwinwins Event #2-Medium two day event

scoop2009_thn.gif72 players would start day two of SCOOP's Event #2 Medium buy-in event with no money bubble to worry about, but rather a couple of six-figure paydays sitting at the final table. The road was long enough avoiding 9,560 players from yesterday but the players would also have to endure another four hours of play tonight until our final table would be reached (for day one recap day click here)

If fatigue wasn't a factor, roll in the talent left after day one's trail of shredded tournament tickets and it seems like day two's eight-table SnG for a potential $280,000.00 was the tougher of the two. Players like: BodogAri with several tournament scores to his credit including chopping up the Sunday Million last year for $116K, Bushwickdave who was one person away from claiming a WCOOP bracelet last year in Event #3 scoring $62K in the process, Ryan "g0lfa" D'Angelo who picked up 5th place and $700,000 at the PCA, and Team PokerStars Pro Thierry "BOKPOWER" van dan Berg who would play short-stacked ninja game during day two, picking up timely double-ups to stay alive.

Day one's chip leader, thecooler992, would come close to riding some of those chips into the final table, but was stopped in 11th place ($10,000.00), but not after this suck-resuck-for-a-chop hand happened:

Flopped straights never get there, as fold_em_sho7's aces A♥A♣ got revenge on thecooler992's J♦A♠ by chopping the pot on the rivered jack. thecooler992's day would end on the next hand when samMAMA77's 4♥A♥ flops a nut flush against thecooler992's big slick A♠K♣ all in preflop.

Down to the bubble Pastaga71 was attempting a blind steal with a raise to 2.2 million from the small blind with just 6♠Q♦ and blinds at 125K/250K ante 31,250. But, big stacked sethsethseth found an ace A♦7♥ and promptly set Pastaga71 all-in. With only 1.3 million behind Pastaga71 would make the call and watch an ace hit the flop and hit the kickers on the river for good measure T♥ A♠ 3♣ J♥ 7♣ for two pair sending Pastaga71 home in tenth place ($10,000.00) opening up the nine seats to the final table below:

Seat 1: fold_em_sho7 (4950052 in chips)
Seat 2: Round42 (7216068 in chips)
Seat 3: SixZeros (11200069 in chips)
Seat 4: guiguibos (15381250 in chips)
Seat 5: BOKPOWER (3461464 in chips)
Seat 6: g0lfa (25979074 in chips)
Seat 7: samMAMA77 (6272635 in chips)
Seat 8: sethsethseth (13855842 in chips)
Seat 9: PleasureDog (8003546 in chips)

Blinds would kick off at the final table at 125K/250K ante 31,250 with D'Angelo holding a huge stack on the field and shortstacked BOKPOWER still carrying the PokerStars Pro flag while squeezing every bit of value he can get from his chips. The patience paid off early for the Dutch pro as five hands into the big money he would receive pocket aces and collected a 7.2 million chip pot from guiguibos who's pocket sevens couldn't find a jackpot third seven on the 9♣ 4♥ 2♠ T♥ 4♠ board.

Shortly after an hourly five minute break and the blinds moving up to 150K/300K ante 37,500 BOKPOWER was in the small blind facing a min raise from SixZeros in the cutoff and a call from guiguibos on the button and decided to shove for 7.2 million. SixZeros kept the rest of his chips for later use as guiguibos tanked while covering the Team PokerStars Pro holding pocket sevens 7♠7♦. The decision was to call and the race was on against Berg's big slick K♠A♥. The queen on the turn would open up a few more outs but BOKPOWER couldn't connect with the 3♠ 8♣ J♥ Q♦ 4♦ board and the Team PokerStars Pro was out in ninth place ($13,600.00).

Thierry van den Berg: Ninth Place

ACTION ALERT! DANGER! SUCKOUTS AHEAD!

First, we found Round42 going all-in from the button for 4.6 million and SixZeros sitting in the small blind covering to make the call with pocket jacks J♦J♥. The race was on for Round42 in level 46 holding Q♣A♦ and a 10.1 million chip pot sitting out there for the taking. No one was helped by the 7♥ T♥ T♠ 2♠ K♦ board and Round42 would not see level 47 but picked up $20,000.00 for eighth place.

That wasn't the suckout referred to in the mini-headline. But, this hand was, watch the video below:

After few coolers, g0lfa's stack took enough of a hit to lose the chip lead to guiguibos who started off the betting to one million from the small blind which was raised by D'Angelo to 2.785 million. guiguibos wasn't letting go of A♥J♥ and shoved to put g0lfa all-in. D'Angelo would snap call with pocket jacks J♠J♣ for a dominate hand and looking good to resume the chip lead with the 32.9 million chip pot. The flop was a cringe-worthy 2♥ 5♦ 4♥ giving guiguibos the nut flush draw. K♣ on the turn kept g0lfa in the lead, but the dirty 5♥ on the river gave guiguibos the huge pot and knocked out D'Angelo in seventh place ($40,000.00).

Ryan "g0lfa" D'Angelo 7th place

After the blinds popped up to 250K/500K ante 62,500 sethsethseth would take guiguibos' ill-gotten gains thru another sideways head turning hand where sethsethseth would flop two pair with 6♠3♠ and guiguibos held just 8♦5♦ on the flop of 6♣ 3♦ A♠ and both would their sizable stacks into the middle after several raises creating a 33.8 million chip pot. 4♠ on the turn made things interesting, but the 9♠ on the river improved sethsethseth's hand to a flush raking in the big pot.

Shortly after sethsethseth hauled in that 33.8 million chip pot, two hands to be exact, he was back in action trying to knock out a shortstacked PleasureDog. With the blinds at 250K/500K ante 62,500 PleasureDog made the only move possible and shoved for 2.7 million UTG holding T♦Q♦. Folded around to sethsethseth in the big blind who would and could call with any two does so with 2♠9♠. Both players would get draws on the 8♦ K♠ J♠ flop, but sethsethseth running goodgoodgood hit the flush with the turned 6♠ making the 3♣ virtual waste. PleasureDog will be pleased with the $60,000.00 bone thrown in the canine's direction for sixth place.

Just winwinwin baby.

sethsethseth would use that pot as a springboard to win the next four hands in a row. In the last of the four hands with blinds still at 250K/500K ante 62,500 samMAMA77 tried a raise to 1.3 million but was met with a re-raise by sethsethseth to 2.8 million. After fold_em_sho7 ah, folded em, samMAMA77 pushed all-in for 8.5 million with pocket queens Q♥Q♣. Not knowing samMAMA77 held queens sethsethseth made the call with pocket eights 8♥8♣. Nothing to fear for the 17.8 million chip pot as the 4♥ 6♣ 7♦ came down on the flop giving sethsethseth four more outs. 9♠ on the turn increased that to ten outs, and another dirty river 5♦ gave sethsethseth the straight knocking out samMAMA77 in the fifth place ($80,000.00).

"Look at chop numbers" was expressed in the chat box but a firm "no" from the massive chip leader sethsethseth meant no pause for discussions on chopping up the $728,000.00 remaining in the prize pool. To show you why sethsethseth may have shied away from a chop, here are the chip count at that time:

fold_em_sho7 (11068708 in chips)
SixZeros (12113956 in chips)
guiguibos (12071270 in chips)
sethsethseth (61066066 in chips)

When you're running this hot, the cards don't even matter.

guiguibos poked the not-so-sleeping bear of sethsethseth and paid the price. After guiguibos raised to 1.3 million from button, sethsethseth simply push covering the table many times over. fold_em_sho7 folded, as guiguibos held a respectable A♦J♠ and made the call creating a 25 million chip pot. sethsethseth had two live rags 2♦9♣ which found a way to connect with the 5♥ 8♦ 3♠ 9♦ 3♦ board and rake in the big pot while eliminating guiguibos in fourth place ($100,000.00).

If you like money, just stay out of the seth's way.

Seven hands later with the blinds moving up to 300K/600K ante 75K sethsethseth kept the foot to the floorboard and open shoved from the cutoff as fold_em_sho7 found a reason to call holding 3♥K♥ for the remaining 7.8 million chips. SixZeros folded as sethsethseth was slightly ahead with A♠8♥. Both players would hit the T♥ A♦ 2♥ flop, as sethsethseth got top pair while fold_em_sho7 found a flush draw. No change on the 2♣ turn, and no red on the 5♣ river meant fold_em_sho7 was out in third place ($144,000.00).

Eight to one doesn't seem like fun.

Big chip difference between SixZeros and sethsethseth who can't seem to lose in the latter stages of this final table started off with an 85 million to 11 million chip lead. But after a 26 million chip pot sailed SixZeros' way when pocket sevens 7♦7♣ held off sethsethseth's A♦2♣ all-in preflop it opened up the game a bit.

One card from the win...

Largest pot of the tournament saw our final pair ready to pack things up and divvy up the top two cash awards but instead we get this video:

Flopped flush K♠ 4♠ J♠ for sethsethseth holding T♠7♠ cracking the pocket queens Q♣Q♠ of SixZeros...

... until the 3♦ turn came out just before yet another filthy river 5♠ gave SixZeros the higher flush, 52.5 million chips, and the chip lead.

The see-saw battle would continue so long that as we were watching the final table with Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker holding the chip lead of Event #5's turbo PLO, it was a race to see if the entire final table would be played before a winner was determined here!

But, with five players remaining on that final table, this tournament would come to an end. sethsethseth ground his chip lead back to 64 million to 31.5 million for SixZeros as the blinds moved to 500K/1MM ante 125K. sethsethseth led out for a 2.25 million raise as SixZeros bumped it to 5.4 million. sethsethseth made the call to see the Q♣ A♣ 4♥ flop and both checked as the board paired on the turned Q♥ which elicited SixZeros to bet 6.7 million as sethsethseth made the call. J♠ on the river and SixZeros immediately pushed and sethsethseth tried to beat that bet to the middle. All the queens were out as SixZeros held Q♦8♣ but sethsethseth held the better kicker Q♠K♣ to win the 63 million chip pot and SCOOP Event #2 Medium buy-in tournament earning $280,000.00!

For an incredible comeback that fell just short, SixZeros will receive $204 with three zeros in front of it for a total runner-up check of $204,000.
