SCOOP: Tremendous win for tremendez in Event #32-Low ($55 FLHE 6-max)

SCOOP logo.gifLimits are tough for some people. They don't like being told that there are limits to what they can do, how much they can bet in a poker game. But it's a different story when everyone has the same limits.

Fixed limit hold'em offers players that poker with limited bets. And many players enjoy the challenge of the limit game as opposed to no-limit. SCOOP tries to accommodate all players with a number of variations in the annual series, and that brings us to this FLHE tournament.

Event 32 offered some FLHE action with six-handed tables, and this version was the lowest buy-in of the three at $55. The $50K guarantee was a solid offering, but the number of players who showed up to accept the limited betting action created a much larger prize pool. Here are the final numbers:

Players: 2,543
Guarantee: $50,000
Actual prize pool: $127,150
Paid players: 390

The money bubble burst just into the fourth hour of the tournament, and players were guaranteed a minimum of $73.74 for their play.

Several Team PokerStars Pros were in the field and made the money, the first being Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, who finished in 321st place. He was followed by Alex "J0hnny_Dr@m@" Zervos in 249th.

When the tournament was reduced to only three tables prior to the eight-hour mark, there were still quite a few big stacks in the field. However, hand-for-hand action didn't begin until the ninth hour. The elimination of Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis in eighth place prompted tension to rise with final table seats on the line. And that left the last Team Pro - Joep Van Den Bijgaart - as the last one standing.

Hand-for-hand ended when a hand developed involving I'am_Sound and 1amDirt. After the J♣Q♠K♦ flop, a bet, check-raise, and call led to the T♠ turn. 1amDirt bet all-in with Q♦8♣ and the pair of queens, and I'am_Sound called with A♥6♠ and the straight. 1amDirt left the tournament in seventh place with $1,525.80.

ZKostas zipped to final table with lead

The final table was set in Level 33, with blinds at 8,000/16,000. The six players' starting stacks lined up as follows:

Seat 1: janez123 (438,271 in chips)
Seat 2: tremendez (3,426,708 in chips)
Seat 3: hippicrit (1,715,825 in chips)
Seat 4: I'am_Sound (2,082,864 in chips)
Seat 5: ZKostas (4,030,536 in chips)
Seat 6: Pappe_Ruk (1,020,796 in chips)

Janez123 started strong with a triple through Pappe_Ruk and hippicrit. Big pots were developing.

Short-stacked Pappe-Ruk decided to tangle with ZKostas until betting was capped preflop. After the 6♦4♦3♦, ZKostas bet, and Pappe_Ruk raised all-in with A♠Q♠. ZKostas called with K♥8♥, and that hand improved when the K♠ came on the turn. The 5♣ on the river ended the tournament for Team PokerStars Pro Joep "Pappe_Ruk" Van Den Bijgaart, who left in sixth place with $2,272.17.

Hippicrit doubled through I'am_Sound. But that was the last of the double-ups for awhile.

Several players got involved with janez123, who was all-in preflop with A♦9♥, to see a flop of 7♣5♠3♠, and I'am_Sound bet, ZKostas called, and hippicrit check-folded. The 5♣ on the turn prompted a bet and raise, and the 3♣ on the river brought a bet from ZKostas and fold from I'am_Sound. ZKostas showed 9♠9♣, and that two pair of nines and fives eliminated janez123 in fifth place with $4,450.25.

Two hands later, hippicrit made an all-in move with A♠7♦, but tremendez was right along with K♥J♦. But the board of J♥2♦6♠2♠8♣ gave tremendez the pot and left hippicrit out in fourth place with $6,993.25.

The very next hand found the other short stack at the table, I'am_Sound, moving all-in with K♥3♦, but tremendez was there with T♥T♣. The board of A♥9♠3♠J♣8♦ didn't bring enough help for I'am_Sound, who departed in third place with $10,807.75.

Big stacks enter big battle

The final two players started with nearly even stacks:

Seat 2: tremendez (6,010,584 in chips)
Seat 5: ZKostas (6,704,416 in chips)

By the ten-hour break, ZKostas extended the lead with a chip stack of just over 8 million. But tremendez evened the stacks again, and at a certain point, both players asked to pause the tournament for deal talks. They quickly decided on an even split, with $16,825.00 for each player, with $1,000.00 left over for the eventual winner.

Play resumed. It didn't take long for tremendez to take the lead, courtesy of the following hand:

Soon after, the two began to tangle. After the 3♦9♦5♠ flop, raises led to betting being capped. The 4♦ came on the turn, at which point tremendez bet and ZKostas raised all-in. Tremendez called with 7♠6♠ for the turned straight, and ZKostas showed A♥A♦ that were cracked. The 3♣ on the river ended the hand, leaving ZKostas out in second place with $16,825.00.

Tremendez won the SCOOP title, watch, and $17,825.00 in prize money. Congratulations!
