SCOOP 2012: im2tight squeaks out a win in Event #33-M ($215 NLHE 1R1A)

SCOOP logo.gifThe cool kids call it "cubed." One rebuy. One add-on. It's enough to give a tournament the flavor of a rebuy without the push-monkey madness of the first hour. The deep stacks made it a 15+ hour day for our final tablists and in the end, it was an ironically named Scandinavian who grabbed the brass ring, Sweden's im2tight taking down his first SCOOP title and $94,727.56 after a three-way deal.

Event #33-M's 1,425 entrants made 1,041 rebuys and 852 add-ons, bringing the total prize pool up to $663,600. 180 places were paid with first place set to earn $110,854.38. Twenty members of Team Pro and Team Online joined in, among them Johnny Lodden, Eugene Katchalov, Liv Boeree, Sandra Naujoks, Maxim Lykov and Chad Brown. Two of them finished in the money, U.K. Team Pro Vicky Coren (71st) and Team Online's Randy "nanonoko" Lew (66th).

A dramatic double elimination set the final table. Vmp8888 led off the hand with a min-raise to 40,000, Chris "Moorman1" Moorman shoved for 230,728 on the button and NigDawG made a cold four-bet to 421,456 from the small blind. Vmp8888 shoved for 1.69 million and NigDawG called off his remaining 700,000.

Seat 9: im2tight (1,757,083 in chips)

Sarnabul flips, SHIPP ITT trips

Sarnabul quickly found himself in a coinflip for his tournament life, his A♦K♦ up against im2tight's pocket fives. The Q♣J♥T♠ flop made sarnabul the nut straight and he doubled to just over a million in chips. The blinds increased to 12,500/25,000 and with 247,350 remaining, SHIPP ITT four-bet shoved from the big blind. Original raiser sarnabul folded, but three-bettor Skammes called the additional 119,225, turning over A♣K♠ to SHIPP ITT's A♦Q♣. The dominating hand held up and SHIPP ITT hit the rail in eighth place, earning $12,608.40.

Modogrinder worn down, RinaFox falls

JBT449 was next in line for a double-up, pitting his K♣J♣ against modogrinder's A♠Q♥ in a preflop all-in. JBT449 hit top pair on the J♠T♦7♣ flop, picked up a flush draw on the turn with the 9♣ and filled it on the river with the Q♣. JBT449 moved up to 2.02 million, leaving modogrinder on 385,000. A few orbits later, modogrinder three-bet shoved behind JBT449's 70,000 opening raise with A♣8♣, JBT449 looking him up with K♥9♥. The ace-high led on the J♠T♥3♦ flop, although JBT449 picked up a gutshot straight draw. Modogrinder turned a straight draw of his own when the 7♠ fell, but disaster struck on the Q♣ river. JBT449 made a king-high straight and modogrinder was eliminated in seventh place, a $19,244.40 score awaiting him.

The next deal of the cards brought another elimination. RinaFox three-bet shoved for 377,476 with pocket eights and vmp8888 called with K♦5♦. Vmp8888 flopped a king and turned trips, ending RinaFox's run in sixth place ($25,880.40).

Sarnabul surges, Skammes slips

JBT449 moved into the chip lead after a preflop raising war with im2tight led him to six-bet to 686,800. Im2tight called, the pot swelling to 1.45 million. JBT449 led out for 280,000 on the 9♥7♠6♣ flop and im2tight called. The turn brought the A♥ and JBT449 put out another small bet, making it 498,765 to go. This time, im2tight gave up his hand and JBT449 raked in the 2 million-chip pot. Im2tight, however, got his lost chips back soon enough, doubling through JBT449 with Q♥Q♠ against 7♥7♣.

Sarnabul reduced JBT449's stack even further when his 6♦6♣ held against A♦9♠ in a 1.2 million pot. Three hands later, sarnabul picked up another huge pot after flopping a set of tens, turning tens full and getting three streets of value from vmp8888, who made trip aces on the turn. Vmp8888 lost about a third of his stack on the hand but quickly rebounded. Holding K♠J♠, vmp8888 opened for a min-raise to 80,000 and called Skammes' 200,000 three-bet. Vmp8888 made top pair on the K♥9♠8♥ flop and Skammes check-called his 230,000 bet. When the 3♦ hit the turn, Skammes check-called all-in for 988,000, his pocket tens in dire shape. Skammes couldn't find another ten on the river, the 2♥ falling to end his run in 5th place.

JBT449 jettisoned

Shortly after Skammes' elimination, the final four agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Negotiations quickly fell apart, however, when JBT449 and im2tight didn't agree to the chip count chop numbers. Only a few hands after action resumed, a raising war broke out between those two on a 6♠5♦4♣ flop. Im2tight five-bet shoved for 2.47 milllion and JBT449 called all-in for 1.09 million, turning over 5♣5♠ for middle set. Im2tight revealed an open-ended straight draw and overpair with 7♣7♠ The 2♠ on the turn didn't change anything, but im2tight spiked his ten-outer on the river, the 7♥ falling to make him top set. JBT449 was out in fourth place, collecting $45,124.80 for his efforts.

Sarnabul sacked

The action was paused again for deal negotiations and this time, the three remaining players came to a quick agreement on a chip count chop deal. With $6,500 still left in play for the winner, action resumed.

The final three slugged it out for another half an hour before anyone budged. Holding 1.56 million in chips with the blinds up to 25,000/50,000, sarnabul check-raised all-in on a J♥8♣6♠3♥ board holding 7♠8♦. Vmp8888 called with Q♠Q♣ and rivered the 3♦ to make queens up. Sarnabul exited in third place, his share of the deal totaling $74,465.63.

Heads-up chip counts:

Seat 7: vmp8888 (5,036,808 in chips)
Seat 9: im2tight (4,917,192 in chips)

Im2tight and vmp8888 traded small pots for ten minutes before a substantial hand unfolded. In a 3.3 million chip pot, im2tight check-raised the turn and led the river, earning a fold from vmp8888:

Im2tight moved up to 6.68 million while vmp8888 was left with 3.27 million. All the chips were in the middle again six hands later, vmp8888 bluff-shoving the river with only a pair of fives and im2tight looking him up with jacks and nines:

Kudos to im2tight on winning his first SCOOP title and $94,727.56! For his runner-up finish, vmp8888 collected $83,671.59.
