SCOOP 2012: You're gonna like the leaderboard changes

SCOOP logo.gifChange tends to make a lot of people uncomfortable. For the settled-down man, the slightest alteration can mean serious cause for concern. I need you to understand that I get that. I appreciate the fear. With that said, I really think you're going to dig the changes to the Spring Championship of of Online Poker Player of the Series race.

This year, there are more prizes for more people across more buy-ins. PokerStars has decided to offer leaderboard prizes for every buy-in (low, medium, and high) as well as an overall Player of the Series prize.

So, yeah. Better, right?

Here's what's up for grabs:

SCOOP Low Leaderboard prizes

  • 1st: Trophy & 2013 PCA package
  • 2nd-20th: MicroMillions II ticket for every event
  • 21st-250th: MicroMillions II main event ticket
  • SCOOP Medium Leaderboard prizes

  • 1st: Trophy & 2013 PCA package
  • 2nd-10th: WCOOP $1,050 event ticket
  • 11th-50th: WCOOP $109 event ticket
  • SCOOP High Leaderboard prizes

  • 1st: Trophy & 2013 PCA package
  • 2nd-4th: WCOOP main event ticket
  • 5th-10th: WCOOP $1,050 event ticket
  • There is also one overall leaderboard prize for the person who performs the best across all levels of the 2012 SCOOP. That player will earn a trophy and Season 9 EPT Grand Final package.

Last year, PokerStars Team Online's Anders "Donald" Berg bested the SCOOP fields for the Player of the Series title. This year, he'll have some work to do if he wants to win all four big prizes.

If you're just catching up to the SCOOP series, you should know it begins on May 6 of this year with 120 SCOOP tournaments spread out over 40 events. Each of those events has three buy-in levels suited for all bankrolls. In all, PokerStars is guaranteeing $30,000,000 in prize money. It's all capped off with three main events that guarantee a total of five million bucks.

  • Low: $109 Main Event: $1 million guaranteed
  • Medium: $1,050 Main Event: $1.5 million guaranteed
  • High: $10,300 Main Event: $2.5 million guaranteed with $500,000 guaranteed for first place
  • This year, PokerStars has made it even easier to get into SCOOP events by pricing more than six dozen of the tournaments such that you can use your PokerStars Steps tickets to enter the contests. You can final all the satellites under Events > SCOOP > FPP Satellites / Cash Satellites.

Just like every other tournament series PokerStars runs, the PokerStars Blog will have full coverage of every final table and special profiles of selected winners.
