SCOOP 2013: A second watch for player-to-watch Pollopopeye, Event #17-M champ ($215 NLHE 6-Max Turbo Super KO)
It was just under two months ago that the U.K.'s Andoni "Pollopopeye" Larrabe made a bit of history at PokerStars by winning the largest-ever first prize in a Super Tuesday, the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament, topping a field of 663 to earn a whopping $124,644.
Pollopopeye would actually turn around and final table the Super Tuesday again just three weeks later, finishing fifth. So it was hardly a shock to see his name again at the SCOOP #17-M final table, nor to see him take it down to win the tourney and $65,926.79 first prize.
Making the win even less surprising, this marks a second SCOOP watch for Larrabe, after he won a $1,050 NLHE event -- i.e., one similar to the Super Tuesday -- last year.
Like many who played the event, Larrabe earned a few extra bucks as well in the form of bounties, as this was a $215 buy-in, turbo-structured short-handed NLHE event that awarded "super knockout" bounties for every elimination earned.
$103 worth of each buy-in went to the regular prize pool, with another $103 also going into the bounty pool to be claimed with every elimination. With 4,197 entrants, the total prize pool ended up adding up to $864,582, more than twice the tourney's guarantee.
The blitzing pace set by the five-minute levels meant it took less than two hours to play from 4,197 down to 540 and to the money at which point chrisjester topped the counts with just over 182,000 at a time when the average was just under 39,000.
Meanwhile Swiss89 was hovering just outside of the top 50 with an above-average stack, but by then had already collected the most $103 bounties with 11 of them.
By the three-hour mark just 50 players remained, with imgoodiknow on top as the only player with more than 1 million chips and ramastar88 with a below-average stack but having collected the most bounties with 15.
About 45 minutes later they were down to 12. nanu mare had pushed in front with more than 2.78 million, followed closely by GoToCa$hier in second position and with the most bounties of anyone at 16.
The pace slowed somewhat at that point as it would take about a half-hour for six more to fall.
Leandro "leopeluca" Csome (12th), blackaces93 (11th), and Sedoj77 (10th) were the next three out, each earning $3,674.47. GoToCa$hier was next to go in ninth, earning $4,755.20 plus another $1,648 for those tourney-leading 16 knockouts. Then imgoodiknow followed in eighth (with six KOs) and O"Pazzzo" in seventh (with nine KOs), each also earning $4,744.20 worth of the regular prize pool.
Meanwhile, it was white-hot Pollopopeye who'd pushed into first place, one of three British players who'd made the final table.
Seat 1: Pe-T (United Kingdom) -- 2,115,648
Seat 2: Hunterr84 (Russia) -- 2,056,065
Seat 3: Donk0388 (Germany) -- 1,780,172
Seat 4: nanu mare (Romania) -- 4,242,037
Seat 5: Andoni "Pollopopeye" Larrabe (United Kingdom) -- 7,100,626
Seat 6: ouchbadbeat (United Kingdom) -- 3,690,452
On just the third hand of the final table, the blinds were 125,000/250,000 when ouchbadbeat open-raised all in for more than 3.9 million from the cutoff, then Pe-T called all in for 1,703,148 from the button.
The blinds folded, and ouchbadbeat showed 6♦5♠ while Pe-T had the preflop edge with A♥J♦. The flop came J♠8♣7♣ to increase Pe-T's advantage, but the turn was the 6♥ and the river the 5♥, giving ouchbadbeat two pair and likely leaving Pe-T muttering the winner's name while hitting the rail in sixth.
A couple of orbits later the blinds were already up to 150,000/300,000 when Donk0388 pushed for 1,211,422 from UTG+1, then Andoni "Pollopopeye" Larrabe reraised all in from the small blind to force ouchbadbeat to give up the BB.
Larrabe had J♠T♠ while Donk0388 was hoping 4♦4♥ would hold up. But the flop came J♥T♥3♠ to pair Pollopopeye twice, and after the 6♥ turn and 2♦ river Donk0388's tourney run had ended in fifth.
About a half-dozen hands after that ouchbadbeat min-raised to 600,000 from the button, then Hunterr84 reraised all in for 2,436,760 from the small blind. nanu mare folded the big blind, then ouchbadbeat called.
The flop came 3♥8♣J♥ to give ouchbadbeat a set and all but end it, then the J♣ fell on the turn to make the T♠ river no matter, and they were down to three.
Six hands passed, then with the blinds 200,000/400,000 ouchbadbeat was raising again, this time to 400,000 from the button, and nanu mare reraised all in from the small blind for 2,192,222. Pollopopeye got out, and ouchbadbeat called, showing A♠3♥ while nanu mare had K♥5♥.
The flop couldn't be much worse for nanu mare, coming 5♠4♣2♣ to give ouchbadbeat a wheel. The A♦ came on the turn to provide a few outs to chop, but the river was the 8♦ and nanu mare was out in third.
ouchbadbeat: this is a sick tourney wp stars for creating it
ouchbadbeat: hyperturbo scoopaments
So chatted ouchbadbeat as heads-up play began. They were down to two, with ouchbadbeat having done most of the final table dirty work to have the lead over Andoni "Pollopopeye" Larrabe to start their battle with 14,772,582 to Larrabe's 6,212,418.
Pollopopeye patiently chipped up, however, and within 20 hands had pulled even, then nudged into the lead with more than 12 million to the 8.78 million of ouchbadbeat.
Then with the blinds 300,000/600,000, Pollopopeye limped from the button, and when ouchbadbeat jammed all in Larrabe called the raise, showing K♠J♠ to ouchbadbeat's A♦3♦.
The flop came an intriguing J♦2♥T♦ to pair Pollopopeye but also provide a diamond flush draw to ouchbadbeat. The turn then brought the Q♣ and the river the 3♣, and just a little over four-and-a-half hours after it had started, Event #17-M was over. Pollopopeye had claimed the last bounty to win!
Congratulations to Andoni "Pollopopeye" Larrabe who continues to experience a remarkable spring, adding second career SCOOP title to his huge Super Tuesday win back in March!
