SCOOP 2013: bogdaniel111 breaks through, matt86ck takes top dollar in Event #34-L ($27 PL Omaha H/L)
From the moment registration closed, we had a feeling this would be an odd one. Thirty seconds with a calculator revealed that this particular two-day event had a strong chance of hitting the final table before the end of Day 1 and finishing up the following afternoon. As it turned out, that's exactly what happened. The first forty levels of play took this field all the way down to five players, and after a lengthy deal negotiation at the top of Day 2, they needed only 31 hands to find a champion. Romania's bogdaniel111 pulled out the win after mounting a remarkable late charge, but ended up banking $5,500 less than third-place finisher matt86ck thanks to the five-handed chip chop.
3,719 players came out to scoop, split, and quarter, creating a $91,305.45 prize pool. 495 of them earned a share of it with first place set to earn $14,336.58. Of the 15 Red Spades in the field, four cashed: Fredy "sirfreddy83" Torres (490th), Marcin Horecki (397th), Henrique Pinho (378th), and George "Jorj95" Lind III (376th).
With less than an hour of play remaining on Day 1, the field reached its final ten players. Stevie "stevie444" Chidwick had already dodged a few bullets during hand-for-hand play, and pulled the trigger again when fellow short stack loreh87 opened for a min-raise to 240,000. Stevie444 moved in for 717,848 with 4♦5♠6♠Q♦ and loreh87 called with A♥2♥7♦J♠, having him slightly covered. Stevie444 caught absolutely nothing on the J♥9♦8♠T♣T♥ board while loreh87 turned a jack-high straight to send him to the rail on the final table bubble.

13 minutes remained in Level 38 when the final table began and play was scheduled to continue through the end of Level 40 before breaking for the night. Another 25 minutes passed before the first elimination. After failing to get any traction at the final table, loreh87 finally found a hand to go with in A♣A♠2♠5♥ and open-shoved for his last 305,000. HnumTheGreat called from the small blind with A♥3♣9♦J♣. Loreh87's aces kept the lead on the K♥Q♥2♥ flop, but the 4♦ turn gave HnumTheGreat the nut low draw to go with his gutshot. HnumTheGreat filled it on the river with the T♠ and loreh87 hit the rail in ninth place, earning $730.41 for the day's work.
Three hands later, roveapoker picked up A♣3♣4♣7♥ and moved in for 385,000 from UTG. Teminem called from the big blind with J♦J♠T♠6♣ and hit top set on the J♥9♠8♣ flop. Aces on the turn and river improved Teminem to a full house and roveapoker went out in eighth place, banking $1,141.26.
matt86ck takes a commanding chip lead
Three hands later, farrider63 opened for 356,000 and with over 5 million behind, matt86ck three-bet to 1,228,000. Farrider63 moved all-in for 1.58 million and matt86ck called, his K♥K♦6♠6♣ up against A♦A♣K♠Q♣. Farrider63's aces up were good through the turn, the board reading 9♠8♥2♠2♦, but the poker gods delivered matt86ck the case king on the river to end farrider63's run in seventh.
The next deal saw matt86ck send a few of those newfound chips toomaskoomas's way. On a J♣8♦8♠ flop, toomaskoomas moved al-in for 1.8 million and matt86ck called.
Toomaskoomas led with two pair, but the 8♥ turn left them both playing the trip eights on board, toomaskoomas winning the kicker war. The river was the K♣ and toomaskoomas moved into safer territory with 1.72 million.
Matt86ck rebounded a short time later, cutting HnumTheGreat's stack in half.
Matt86ck moved up to 8.37 million and three hands later, he boosted his chip lead even further. Ibluffgold three-bet shoved for 1.01 million on the button and matt86ck called, his 3♦4♣7♦J♣ up against A♦2♣7♥7♦. Matt86ck flopped bottom pair and made jacks up on the river, sending ibluffgold home in sixth while he climbed to 9.68 million.
Five minutes later, Day 1 came to a close with five players remaining.
End of Day 1 chip counts
Before cards went back in the air for Day 2, deal negotiations broke out in the chat box. Teminem proposed a deal that would award matt86ck $13,500 and the other four about $7,000 apiece while keeping $1,000 in play for the winner. Bogdaniel11 suggested waiting to see ICM numbers, but matt86ck said he wouldn't accept anything other than a chip chop.
bogdaniel111: matt u know chip chop is not an option for us now
bogdaniel111: only for u...
matt86ck: is optioon u not flip for 3k
matt86ck: we can play np
Final table host Felix "xflixx" Schneiders presented the final five with ICM and chip count chop numbers. However, the chip chop numbers matt86ck favored ended up awarding him more than the published first place prize should he win the tournament and claim the additional $1,000.

Matt86ck told his opponents it was up to them if they wanted to assume the risk of playing 10-15BB stacks this late in the game, but bogdaniel111 maintained that they should not allow matt86ck to have the potential to win more than first place money. Just as the deal was about to fall apart entirely, matt86ck offered to lower his share to $13,500 and distribute the balance equally among the other four places. Schneiders came back with revised numbers and everyone quickly agreed to the deal.
From five to three
At last, cards went in the air for Day 2, the blinds up to 125,000/250,000. On Hand #3, toomaskoomas opened for 850,000 from UTG and HnumTheGreat shoved for 1.99 million from the big blind. Toomaskoomas's A♣2♥T♣K♠ rivered an ace-high flush against HnumTheGreat's A♦2♣3♦Q♠, the board finishing out T♦9♥6♣7♣Q♣. For his fifth-place finish, HnumTheGreat collected $6,318.90.
Toomaskoomas moved up to 5.5 million in chips but couldn't hang onto them for long. On a 7♦5♠4♥ flop, toomaskoomas led out for 2 million and Teminem called all-in for 1.57 million, revealing A♣6♦8♣T♥ for an eight-high straight and a 7-6 low. Toomaskoomas showed two pair and a low draw with A♠4♠5♥9♥. Running queens filled out the board and Teminem doubled to 5.13 million while toomaskoomas fell to 3.54 million.
Four hands later, toomaskoomas raised all-in on a K♠9♠8♦ flop vs. bogdaniel111.
toomaskoomas A♥2♣T♦J♦ (open-ended straight draw, backdoor low draw)
bogdaniel111 A♣2♦8♠9♣ (bottom two pair, same backdoor low draw)
The 5♣ on the turn gave both players four to an 8-5 low, but bogdaniel111 caught the 9♥ on the river to improve to nines full of eights. Bogdaniel111 took the chip lead with 7.89 million while toomaskoomas hit the rail in fourth place, his share of the deal yielding a $7,616.50 payday.
matt86ck bounced in third
Two hands after toomaskoomas's elimination, the pot of the tournament unfolded. Holding A♣A♥2♣Q♥, bogdaniel111 opened for 525,000 on the button and matt86ck called from the big blind. The flop fell 9♣6♣2♠. Matt86ck checked, bogdaniel111 bet 875,000, and matt86ck came over the top for 3.8 million. Bogdaniel111 shoved and matt86ck called off his remaining 2.37 million, revealing K♥K♦T♣9♥-- a pair of kings and no low draw. The 8♥ turn and the J♥ river didn't improve matt86ck's hand and he was suddenly on the rail in third place. However, thanks to the deal, he took home the largest share of the prize pool at $13,500, only $836.58 short of first-place money.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 6: bogdaniel111 (14,581,764 in chips)
Seat 7: Teminem (4,013,236 in chips)
The chip counts had barely budged before one hand decided this heads-up match. All the marbles went in on the flop, Teminem's two pair leading bogdaniel111's gutshot and flush draws, but a diamond on the river gave the pot and the win to bogdaniel111.
Congrats to bogdaniel111 on his first SCOOP title! He banked $7,988.63 for the win while runner-up Teminem earned $6,257.31.
