SCOOP 2013: gumasta scoops up a win in Event #38-H ($2,100 NL Omaha Hi/Lo)

Twelve and a half hours is typically enough time to plow through a field of thousands, but in this case, it took over half a day to get from 118 to 1. When the final table did finally materialize, it was loaded with familiar faces. AceQuad made his sixth SCOOP final table of the week, Event #26-H runner-up vandir4rek got a second chance to close out a win and Calvin "cal42688" Anderson was eight eliminations away from a record-tying fifth SCOOP bracelet. However, gumasta hit a rush with five players remaining and rode it all the way to the finish, capturing his first SCOOP title and $59,000.

118 players turned out for Event #38-H, the $236,000 prize pool more than doubling the $100k guarantee. 15 places were paid with first place set to earn $59,000. Joining the action were Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome, Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara, and George "Jorj95" Lind III along with Team Pros George Danzer, ElkY, and Humberto Brenes. None of the Red Spades finished in the money, Brenes running the deepest with a 25th place finish.

The final ten players spent nearly an hour on the final table bubble before calvin7v three-bet shoved for 20,588 preflop and initial raiser cal42688 called. Calvin7v's K♥K♦T♦2♥ did not improve on the 9♠8♥3♣A♣4♥ board while cal42688's A♦J♦8♠6♦ turned a pair of aces and rivered an 8-6-4-3-A low to set the final table.

AceQuad makes sixth FT, finishes ninth

Surviving that bubble guaranteed Eric "AceQuad" Brix his sixth final table appearance in the 2013 SCOOP and his second one of the day. While grinding his way toward the final nine here, AceQuad also took fifth in Event #37-H ($2,100 H.O.R.S.E.), to add another 55 points to his leaderboard total. Unfortunately, AceQuad wasn't long for this table, open-shoving for his last 22,000 with A♥4♦T♣K♠. KarolinaD called with A♦A♠6♦7♦ in the big blind and made aces up on the J♣8♣7♠8♥K♦ board to end AceQuad's run in ninth place. Ace Quad nabbed $6,490 for his finish and is right on George Danzer and Shaun Deeb's heels for the top spot in the Player of the Series race with 490 points.

TY4Stacks2 bows out in eighth

Short stack nilsef chipped up to 41,000 before doubling through TY4Stacks2. The action folded to TY4Stacks2 in the small blind and he opened for 3,150. Nilsef shoved from the big blind with A♥2♠4♠K♥ and TY4Stacks2 called, revealing A♣3♠9♦T♠. Although TY4Stacks2 picked up straight and flush draws on the K♠Q♠6♦ flop, nilsef paired his king and improved to kings up when the 4♥ came on the turn. The river was the T♦ and nilsef's two pair held up to scoop, leaving TY4Stacks2 on only 1,373 in chips.

TY4Stacks2 managed to triple to 5,500 but wouldn't survive another all-in. The last of his chips went in a few hands later and four players called, checking down the J♥6♣4♠8♥2♠ board. KarolinaD made a 6-4 low with A♠3♦6♦Q♥ and N0body took the high with a set of eights, as TY4Stacks2 exited in eighth place.

gumasta, n0b0dy surge

Vandir4rek's stack steadily dwindled, bottoming out at 26,450 before he three-bet shoved over cal42688's button raise. Gumasta reshoved for 87,000 from the big blind and cal42688 got out of the way.

vandir4rek A♣K♣K♥J♠
gumasta A♦2♦5♥T♣

Gumasta hit top pair and the nut low draw on the T♥5♦3♣ flop and snapped off vandir4rek's kings when the A♥ came on the turn to make him aces and tens. The river 7♠ made gumasta a 7-5-3-2-A low and he scooped the pot, ending vandir4rek's run in seventh place.

Four hands later, gumasta and nilsef saw a T♥9♥3♦ flop for 2,800 apiece. Gumasta led out for 5,600 and nilsef called. The turn brought the 2♦ and gumasta fired again, making it 18,200 to go. Nilsef shoved for 75,291 and gumasta called, revealing A♥3♥3♣K♥ for a set of threes. Nilsef had the nut low draw with A♦4♠Q♦9♦ but missed it on the river, the Q♣ falling to eliminate him in sixth place.

The button took one more trip around the table before jpro89 check-raised all-in for 44,000 on a J♠6♠5♥ flop. N0b0dy called with A♦3♦6♥8♦ for the second nut low draw and a pair of sixes, while jpro89 showed the nut flush draw and a worse low draw with A♠4♦8♠T♥. The turn and river fell the K♣[ and the J♦, N0b0dy scooping with jacks up to send jpro89 to the rail in fifth.

Calvin "cal42688" Anderson eliminated in fourth place

At his fourth final table of the 2013 SCOOP, cal42688 was seeking to tie Shaun Deeb's record five SCOOP wins, but fell just short. With 39,500 remaining, cal42688 three-bet shoved preflop and initial raiser N0b0dy called with over 250k behind.

cal42688 A♥2♣7♣Q♣
N0b0dy 3♥5♥J♣K♣

N0b0dy flopped a pair of threes to cal42688's pair of deuces and improved to jacks up on the turn. Jacks and threes became jacks full of threes on the river and cal42688 was out in fourth place, banking $21,830 for his performance.

N0b0dy takes out karolinaD in third

When play turned three-handed, N0b0dy held the chip lead with 293,000, gumasta was close behind with 243,000 and karolinaD was the short stack with 54,000. KarolinaD chipped up to 71,000 before doubling to 147,000, her A♠7♥T♦K♦ making an ace-high flush vs. N0b0dy's A♣8♥T♣Q♦. However, N0b0dy reclaimed those chips and then some a few hands later, quartering karolinaD in a 262,000 pot.

KarolinaD fell back to 65,000 in chips and was eliminated a short time later, All-in preflop vs. N0b0dy, karolinaD's A♥5♦8♦8♠ made an inferior low and lost the kicker war for high on a 6♥3♥3♦7♣A♣ board while n0b0dy's A♦2♦4♦K♣ made a 6-4 low and aces up to scoop. For third place, karolinaD collected $30,680.00

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 5: gumasta (285,887 in chips)
Seat 7: N0b0dy (304,113 in chips)

Blinds were low (1,250/2,500) and stacks were deep (a 118 BB average) as heads-up play commenced. Gumasta struck first, check-raising the flop, then firing the turn and river with a ten-high straight to pick up a 160,000 pot. Gumasta moved up to 440,000 while N0b0dy fell to 150,000.

Gumasta and N0b0dy split and traded pots for ten more minutes before N0b0dy raised all-in on a Q♣7♥3♣ flop. N0b0dy missed his flush draw and gumasta scooped the pot with a pair of aces and a 6-5 low to close out the win.

Congratulations to gumasta on his first SCOOP title! He banked $59,000 for the win while runner-up N0b0dy earned $40,120.
