SCOOP 2013: yadio survives a marathon final table in Event #10-H ($2,100 NL Super-Knockout)
Super-Knockout events reward aggressiveness. You don't have to nit it up and squeeze into the Top 10% in order to earn any money. Simply put, the more opponents you take out, the more money you earn. If you knock out two players, you're essentially freerolling the rest of the tournament.
Despite the "knockout" specialty of this particular tournament, the final table in Event #10-H $2,100 NL [Super-Knockout] was one of the longest that this veteran reporter has ever witnessed. It took in excess of two hours before the first player was eliminated and the entire final table lasted over 5.5 hours. After an exhausting yet exhilarating tournament, yadio was finally able to deliver a stunning knockout blow by taking out gnetaren in second place.
Event #10-H $2,100 NL [Super-Knockout] attracted 662 runners. Half of each player's buy-in went to the main prize pool and the other half went into the bounty pool. If you eliminated an opponent, you collected a $1,025 bounty. The total prize pool was a whopping $1,357,100, with $678,550 set aside for prize money and $678,550 set aside for bounties. The eventual champion would take home $127,567.64. Only the top 81 places paid out.
The player who collected the most bounties was cmontopdeck, who picked off 15 opponents and collected $15,375 in bounties.
Event #10-H featured a slew of Team PokerStars Pros including Joe Cada, Max Lykov, George Danzer, Marcin Horecki, Martin Hruby, and Eugene Katchalov. Team PokerStars Online members in the mix included George "Joj95" Lind, Ciao "Pessagno" Pessagno, Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara, and Randy "nanonoko" Lew.
Notable players who cashed in Event #10-H included Team PokerStars Online nkeyno (80th), PokerStars Team Pro Eugene Katchalov (70th), Team PokerStars Online Mickey "mement_mori" Peterson (15th), and PokerStars Team Pro Ville Whalbeck (12th).
Play was suspended at the end of Level 20, and only 33 players remained. The end of Day 1 chipleader was cmontopdeck with 291,477. Team PokerStars Online mement_mori finished Day 1 with 145K, good enough for 6th overall. PokerStars Team Pro Ville Wahlbeck sat 14th in chips with a 111K stack.
At the end of Day 1, three players had collected 10 bounties each -- Mr.Ingenious, mindgamer, and guyguy12. Ville Wahlbeck knocked out 9 players, while Team Online nkeyno took out 8 opponents. Mement_mori only collected 4 KO bounties, but despite the low number he still managed to end Day 1 in the Top 6 in chips. George Lind collected 3 bounties. Pessago collected 2. George Danzer and Eugene Kathalov, earned one KO prize each.
When Day 2 resumed, the remaining 33 players redrew for seats. As luck would have it, Ville Whalbeck and mement_mori were re-seated at the same table. With 18 players to go, their table broke and they were moved once again to the same table. cmontopdeck continued to hold the lead but chipped up to 509K.
Unfortunately for mement_mori, Wahlbeck rubbed him out. The hand began with a min-raise by Wahlbeck to 8,000. That prompted mement_mori to raise to 19,125, Wahlbeck shoved for 185,567, and mement_mori called all-in for his last 103,310. Cooler time. Wahlbeck held K♦K♠ against mement_mori's A♠A♥. However, the K♣ spiked on the flop and Wahlbeck took the lead with a set of Kings. The board ran out K♣T♥2♠5♥3♥. Wahlbeck won the pot and the $1,025 knockout bounty. He chipped up into the Top 5. Meanwhile, Mickey "mement_mori" Peterson had his Aces snapped off and he was dunzo in 15th place, which paid out $6,446.22. In case you were wondering, mement_mori ended up with 5 KO bounties.
With 12 remaining, Wahlbeck's stack incurred a devastating blow when he lost a flip with Q♥Q♦ versus yadio's A♥K♣. yadio flopped two pair and it held up. Wahlbeck was crippled and slipped to last in chips. Six hands later, Wahlbeck busted. yadio min-raised to 10,000, Wahlbeck jammed it all-in for 50,345, and yadio called. Wahlbeck was ahead with 7♣7♠ against yadio's A♠6♠, but the board ran out 8♠7♦2♠3♣K♠ and yadio won the pot with a flush. Wahlbeck was flushed out in 12th place, which paid out $7,803.32. Wahlbeck also finished up with 12 KO bounties.
With 10 to go, action went hand-for-hand. underO bubbled the final table when his A♦J♦ lost a race against rideniuk's T♣T♠. With underO's tenth-place elimination, the final table was set.

The action progressed at a snail's pace. Levels were 30 minutes in length. No one busted in Level 26. No one busted in Level 27. No one busted in Level 28. No one busted in level 29 (short-stacked gnetaren came close, but avoided a bustout and doubled up with pocket Aces). It seemed like no one was going to get knocked out, but then it finally happened during Level 30. The host, Team PokerStars Online WizardofAhhs joked, "And we have our first elimination after 748 hours of play!"
€urop€an eliminated in 9th place
After over 2 hour and 10 minutes of inaction at the final table, we had the first elimination. €urop€an min-raised to 20,000, yadio called, cmontopdeck raised to 57,000, €urop€an jammed all-in for 257,546, yadio folded, and cmontopdeck called. €urop€an trailed with A♥K♠ against cmontopdeck's K♦K♥. The board ran out J♦8♥4♠4♥5♦. Neither player improved, but forhayley won the pot with Ace-high and a better kicker. In addition, forhayley won a $1,025 bounty for knocking out DrUPSWING. For an eighth-place finish, DrUPSWING took home $15,267.37.
forhayley eliminated in 7th place
After two quick bustouts within minutes of each other, the action resumed its slow place. The final table played seven-handed for at least an hour before someone hit the rail. And when it happened, it was a multi-way pot. After rideniuk open-shoved for 122,610, forhayley re-raised all-in for 271,279, and cmontopdeck moved all-in for 1,262,549. Three-handed.
The board ran out K♦7♦2♦7♣4♦. When the dust settled, rideniuk won the main pot with two pair -- Kings and Sevens -- and also collected a bounty worth $1,025 for knocking out forhayley. Meanwhile, cmontopdeck dragged the side pot with two pair -- Nines and Sevens. Alas, forhayley failed to win a second SCOOP title and busted out in seventh place, which paid $22,052.87.
With six remaining, cmontopdeck held the lead with 1.2 million.
rideniuk eliminated in 6th place
After another lull, we finally lost someone. It happened when gnetaren min-raised to 28,000, rideniuk reraised to 62,788, gnetaren four-bet to 105,000, rideniuk five-bet shoved for 476,530, and gnetaren called. gnetaren led with A♦A♣ against rideniuk's A♠K♣. The board ran out 8♣4♠3♠J♦2♥ and gnetaren's Aces held up and he collected another KO bounty. Lithuania's rideniuk busted out in sixth place, which paid out $28,838.37.
With five remaining, the chip counts were as follows: cmontopdeck (1,269,258), gnetaren (1,066,225), yadio (543,031), superkid-bam (287,770), and jektiss (143,716).
cmontopdeck eliminated in 5th place
Action continued to be super slow. The final table passed its fourth hour with five players still remaining. At that toilsome rate, the final table would go on for another four hours. During that time, cmontopdeck's stack incurred a big hit and slipped out of the top spot. A showdown ensued between the former top 2 chip leaders -- cmontopdeck and gnetaren. A raising war broke out preflop... cmontopdeck limped, gnetaren raised to 52,500, cmontopdeck limp-shoved all-in for 454,469, and gnetaren called. Pair vs. overpair. cmontopdeck trailed with 4♦4♣ against gnetaren's 9♦9♥. The board ran out 8♥3♦3♥2♦7♣ and gnetaren's pocket nines held up. gnetaren won the pot and collected a bounty. Meanwhile, former chip leader went from the penthouse to the outhouse and busted out in fifth place, which paid $36,234.57.
jektiss eliminated in 4th place
It did not last four-handed very long. superkid-bam min-raised to 40,000, jektiss bombed all-in for 214,101, and superkid-bam called. jektiss was ahead with K♦K♥ against superkid-bam's A♣9♥. However, the board ran out A♠J♠4♦8♣2♥ and jektiss' pocket Cowboys were cracked with an Ace on the flop. superkid-bam won the pot and earned a knockout bounty. Meanwhile, for a fourth-place performance, jektiss collected $51,569.80.
At that point with three remaining, the leader was gnetaren with 1.97 million, while superkid-bam held 697K and yadio was the "shorty" with 633K.
DEAL? NO DEAL!
With three to go, action was paused to discuss a deal. Players could not reach an agreement, so play resumed.
superkid-bam eliminated in 3rd place
On the first hand after the deal was shot down, we saw another elimination. superkid-bam min-raised to 40,000, gnetaren reraised to 102,500, superkid-bam four-bet shoved for 645,317, and gnetaren called. Classic race with gnetaren taking 8♦8♣ into battle against superkid-bam's A♣J♣. The flop was K♥Q♣7♠ and superkid-bam picked up a Broadway straight draw. The turn was the Q♠ and the river was the 7♥. gnetaren's pocket eights held up. superkid-bam hit the rail in third place, which paid out $68,533.55. gnetaren won another bounty and chipped up to over 2.7 million.
HEADS-UP: gnetaren (Sweden) vs. yadio (Canada)
Seat 2: yadio (521,064)
Seat 6: gnetaren (2,788,936)
When heads-up began, gnetaren held a 5-1 lead. The final table reached its fifth hour.
Right out of the gate, yadio doubled up on the first hand when 7♦6♦ out-flopped gnetaren's A♦Q♥. That reduced gnetaren's lead to roughly 2-1.
But then disaster struck again for gnetaren when yadio won a 726K pot after turning a flush with T♥9♥. At that juncture, yadio only trailed 1.7 million to 1.5 million. It was a brand new ball game. A couple of hands later, yadio won a pot almost worth 1 million (without a showdown) and quickly seized approximately a 2-1 chip lead.
gnetaren eliminated in 2nd place; yadio wins SCOOP Event #10-H!
After an intense and prolonged final table lasting 5.5 hours, we finally had a champion. yadio had opened up to a 3-1 lead before the final hand was dealt.
On the last hand... yadio min-raised to 60,000 and gnetaren called. The flop was A♠9♠3♦. gnetaren checked, yadio bet 50,125, gnetaren check-raised to 142,500, and yadio called. The turn was the Q♦ and gnetaren fired out 180,000, yadio shoved all-in for 2,229,968, and gnetaren called. Both players flopped two pair, but gnetaren trailed with A♥3♥ versus yadio's A♣9♣. The river was the 4♦ and gnetaren failed to improve, which meant yadio won the pot and collected a bounty for knocking out gnetaren.
For a gutsy runner-up performance, gnetaren collected $92,961.35. Congrats to yadio for shipping Event #10-H and earning $127,567.64 for first place and a cool new champion's watch.
