SCOOP 2014: bokkie87 denies djk123 his third SCOOP title in Event #35-H ($2,100 PL Omaha Hi/Lo)

This final table looked to be a clash of two SCOOP titans. In one corner, currently sitting atop the overall TLB, Calvin "cal42688" Anderson was at his sixth final table of the 2014 SCOOP, still hoping to tie Shaun Deeb's record five titles. And in the other was Dan "djk123" Kelly, a two-time SCOOP champion arriving at his fourth final table of the series. However, it was bokkie87, a Dutch PLO8 cash game pro who took control three-handed and got heads-up with Kelly for the watch. Bokkie87 zipped past the young American ex-pat and came away with his first SCOOP win along with a sweet $72,670.00 score.

Event #35-H's 169-player field created a $338,000.00 prize pool, more than double the $150k guarantee. The top 27 places were paid with first place taking home $72,670.00. Six Red Spades joined the field: Andre Akkari, Nacho Barbero, George Danzer, Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara, Marcin Horecki, and Jason Mercier. Horecki was the only Team Pro to make the money; he went out in 18th place when yurasov1990's 3♠4♦5♥7♥ cracked his A♦A♠5♦J♥ on the turn with two pair, sevens and fives and an 8-7 low.

Blinds were up to 1,250/5,000 with ten players remaining. Bokkie87 opened for a raise with A♣2♦9♠J♠ and jutrack called from the big blind. Jutrack check-raised the J♥8♦6♣ flop to 26,250, bokkie87 potted to 63,500 with his top pair and nut low draw, and jutrack called all-in, revealing A♥4♦5♥9♥. Bokkie87 turned two pair with the 6♦ and rivered trips with the J♦, ending jutrack's run on the final table bubble.

Three SCOOP champs vie for repeat titles

It was another decorated final table befitting a $2,100 event. Kelly and Anderson may have six SCOOP watches between them, but their opponents were no slouches when it came to online success. Filfedra won a SCOOP watch in 2011's Event #5-M ($109+R NLHE Turbo) for over $91,000. Dustin1980 was runner-up in the Super Tuesday two months ago. Ryan "PROTENTIALmn" LaPlante finished third last night in Event #31-M. Bokkie87 and vandir4rek were also at their second final tables of the 2014 SCOOP; vandir4rek took third place in Event #27-M ($109+R PL 5-Card Omaha H/L 6-Max Turbo) while bokkie87 finished fourth in #27-H.

vandir4rek out in ninth

With the blinds up to 1,500/3,000, Mr Longhit opened for a min-raise on the button and vandir4rek called from the big blind. The two went to war on the 9♣6♦5♥ flop, vandir4rek check-raising to 31,500 only to be met with a reraise to 57,000. Vandir4rek called all-in, his 3♥4♥6♠7♦ trailing Mr Longhit's flopped straight and better low draw with 2♥3♣7♣8♣. Mr Longhit made a 6-5 low on the 4♠ turn and locked up the hand with the J♠ river, ending vandir4rek's run in ninth place ($6,760.00).

djk123 eliminates cal42688 in eighth place

Down to 29,224, cal42688 picked up A♦Q♣6♣3♦ and got the rest of his chips in before the flop vs.PROTENTIALmn's A♠Q♦8♠2♥. The board ran out T♥5♥4♠J♣2♠, cal42688 rivering a six-high straight to scoop the pot and double to 66,448.

A short time later, the action folded to cal42688 in the small blind and he made a 3x-raise to 15,000. Djk123 called from the big blind and they saw a A♥5♦4♠ flop. Cal42688 put the rest of his chips in with aces up, but djk123 had flopped a wheel.

Djk123 improved to a six-high straight on the river and scooped the pot, eliminating cal42688 in eighth place ($10,140.00).

filfeda falls in seventh place

Two hands later, PROTENTIALmn limped in from UTG, lemberg1715 limped behind him and filfedra shoved for his remaining 17,159. PROTENTIALmn repotted to 63,977 to isolate and lemberg1715 gave up his hand.

filfedra A♥K♥Q♥3♥
PROTENTIALmn A♠A♦9♠2♣

PROTENTIALmn flopped aces up and rivered fours full on the 7♥4♥4♠Q♦4♦ board, ending filfedra's run in seventh place ($13,520.00).

djk123 takes out lemberg1715 in sixth

Six-handed play slogged on for an hour before confrontation brewed between dustin1980 and Mr Longhit. Dustin1980 opened for a min-raise to 12,000 from the cutoff and Mr Longhit called from the big blind. Mr Longhit check-raised all-in for 62,047 on the K♠3♣2♣ flop and dustin1980 called. Although dustin1980 turned up K♦K♥Q♦Q♣ for top set, Mr Longhit''s A♥J♦5♦4♠ turned a wheel with the 4♥. The river was the T♦ and Mr Longhit scooped the pot, doubling his stack to 151,000.

On the very next deal, lemberg1715 opened for a pot-sized raise to 21,000 on the button and djk123 called from the big blind. Djk123 led out for 9,000 on the K♠K♣Q♦ flop and lemberg1715 called all-in for less.

djk123 2♦4♥4♣T♦

Djk123 revealed two pair, tens and fours. The J♦ turn gave him a flush draw to boot and the river 4♦ made him fours full of kings. For sixth place, lemberg1715 took home $16,900.00.

djk123 doubles, dusts dustin1980

During five-handed play, bokkie87 doubled through djk123, his A♥K♠T♦6♣ flopping tens and sixes and turning sixes full. Bokkie87 moved up to 144,000 while djk123 was left with 95,500. A few hands later, djk123 got the rest of his chips in on a Q♠4♣2♦ flop vs. PROTENTIALmn. PROTENTIALmn turned up A♥A♠J♥3♠, but djk123 snapped them off when his 3♦4♠6♠8♥ turned the 4♦ to make trips. The K♠ river meant there was no possible low and djk123 raked in the pot, increasing his stack to 175,000.

Shortly after djk123's double-up, the final five agreed to take a peek at ICM numbers, but chip leader PROTENTIALmn admitted he was unlikely to make a deal. However, it was djk123 who officially put the kibosh on a chop after looking at the figures presented.

Action resumed, and in a limped pot vs. djk123, dustin1980 committed the rest of his chips on a 9♣8♥2♦ flop. Dustin1980 revealed Q♦J♣9♥6♥ for top pair and a gutshot but djk123 turned up A♣9♠8♣4♣ for top two pair. Djk123 improved to aces and nines when the A♠ turned and although dustin1980 rivered the Q♠ for queens up, it wasn't enough. Dustin1980 exited in fifth place, earning $20,280.00 for his efforts.

Mr Longhit fades in fourth

Two orbits later, Mr Longhit three-bet shoved for 62,094 from the small blind and initial raiser PROTENTIALmn called on the button.

Mr Longhit A♠Q♥9♠2♥
PROTENTIALmn A♣9♣6♦4♣

PROTENTIALmn turned a ten-high straight and Mr Longhit missed his nut low draw on the river, the board running out 7♠7♥8♣T♣T♦. PROTENTIALmn moved up to 302,000 in chips while Mr Longhit departed in fourth place, good for $29,575.00.

PROTENTIALmn coolered

Three hands later, a massive pot unfolded between PROTENTIALmn and bokkie87. It was set over set on the flop, the last of bokkie87's chips going in on the turn:

Bokkie87's set of queens held up and PROTENTIALmn was left with only 35,000 in chips. Bokkie87 turned a Broadway straight on the next hand and PROTENTIALmn went out in third place ($39,715.00).

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 2: djk123 (163,383 in chips)
Seat 4: bokkie87 (681,617 in chips)

Bokkie87 had a 4 to 1 chip lead to start heads-up play and made quick work of djk123. On the fourth hand of their match, djk123 four-bet shoved for 103,383 pre flop and bokkie87 called. Although both players made kings and sixes, bokkie87 won the kicker war and locked up his first SCOOP title, denying djk123 his third.

Congratulations to bokkie87 on a brilliant metamorphosis from cash game grinder to SCOOP champion. He banked $72,060.00 for the win, while Dan "djk123" Kelly earned $52,390.00 for his runner-up finish.
