SCOOP 2014: The Ossi the winner in Event #6-L ($7.50+R NLHE Turbo)

Another lightning-fast turbo event is in the books for the 2014 edition of the Spring Championship of Online Poker at PokerStars. A huge field of 12,491 turned out for Event #6-L, a $7.50 buy-in no-limit hold'em tourney with unlimited rebuys during the first hour and one add-on available after that, and in less than six hours it was The Ossi of Germany sitting with all the chips, a handsome $39,825.74 first prize, and a SCOOP watch.

That big field took 22,066 rebuys and 8,214 add-ons, creating a total prize pool of $291,698.22 which was well over the scheduled $125K guarantee. The top 1,620 made the money, and it didn't take long to get there with Team Online members Tyler "frosty012" Frost (1,231st, $52.50) and Caio "Pessagno" Pessagno (1,119th, $55.42), and Team PokerStars Pros George Danzer (1,089th, $55.42), Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (961st, $61.25), and Johnny Lodden (931st, $61.25) among the first waves of cashers.

By the tournament's four-hour break just 82 players were left, with GEGENTOP on top of the counts and everyone eyeing the four-figure cash prizes awaiting the final dozen, and the five-figure scores reserved for the top five finishers.

The blistering pace continued, and just a little over 40 minutes later they were down to 18 with GEGENTOP having tumbled to fall in 23rd ($554.22) while Polenda surged into the lead.

It took just 25 minutes more for nine more to lose their chips. FINLANDSHARK (18th), Michi_10352 (17th), and GSOULTAN (16th) each earned $612.56 for their finishes. bigw410 (15th), Sashi71 (14th), and XingsMaster (13th) made $875.09 apiece. And trentinichri (12th), GINATTI (11th), and kali21 (10th) picked up $1,166.79 for not quite making the final table.

Just a little over five hours after the tourney hand begun, the final table was underway.

Olista19 ousted in ninth

The very first hand of the final table saw an elimination. After Polenda opened with a 2x raise to 3.2 million from the cutoff seat, Olista19 called all in with the 935,888 left after posting the big blind. It was K♠T♦ for Polenda and A♣4♦ for Olista19. The board ran out 8♦K♣8♠8♣3♥, giving Polenda eights full of kings and sending Olista19 out in ninth.

Chrisgott gets got in eighth

About 10 minutes later the blinds were up to 1.25m/2.5m when Chrisgott open-raised all in for 8,164,360 from the hijack seat and got one caller in Unkn0wn123 in the big blind. Chrisgott had K♦J♣ but Unkn0wn123 had woken up with A♦K♠, and five cards later -- 9♣6♦9♦2♣7♥ -- Chrisgott was gone in eighth.

Deal scuttled, then tofuh skedaddles in seventh

The remaining seven played a few more hands, then all ticked the box to pause the tourney and talk about a possible deal. At that point Unkn0wn123 had grabbed the lead with about 40.8 million, The Ossi was next with a little more than 30.7 million, Polenda and TRNSLTR were both right around 20 million, HwyyAANOT!! had almost 15.2 million, tofuh had just under 11 million, and BlackDevel78 had a little more than 6.9 million.

A division of the remaining prize money based on "ICM" calculations -- minus $2,500 for which to play -- was proposed, but chip leader Unkn0wn123 wanted more than was being offered. Some weren't willing to give up any money, while others argued that with blinds so high (still 1.25m/2.5m), not doing a deal was not preferable, either.

"theese stacks ar so jello," typed The Ossi, while HwyyAANOt!! added "its insane to play guys." More back-and-forthing ensued, but ultimately no deal was done and play resumed.

Soon after the blinds moved up again to 1.5m/3m, then tofuh open-raised all in from under the gun for 7,617,924 with 3♦3♥ and TRNSLTR called from the big blind with A♥9♥. The board came K♥8♣J♦A♦6♣, and they were down to six.

HwyyAANOt!! crashes in sixth

On the very next hand, HwyyAANOt!! was the one open-pushing from UTG, this time for 4,914,229, then Unkn0wn123 reraised to more than 6.8 million from a seat over, causing everyone else to fold.

Unkn0wn123 had A♠8♥ and HwyyAANOt!! J♣8♣. The community cards came 4♣4♦2♣K♥T♦, and HwyyAANOt!! was done in sixth.

Polenda put out in fifth

Five hands after that, the blinds were 2m/4m when The Ossi opened with an all-in raise to more than 26 million from the button, then Polenda called all in with the 19,318,241 behind after posting the big blind. The Ossi had K♥8♣ and Polenda 9♠9♦. The 3♠6♦K♠ flop then paired The Ossi's king, and after the 4♥ turn and 2♣ river Polenda's tourney run had ended in fifth.

TRNSLTR lost in fourth

A few minutes later TRNSLTR was the next to go in fourth place after a hand in which TRNSLTR open-raised for 29,949,670 (seven-and-a-half big blinds) from the small blind and got called by Unkn0wn123 in the big blind. TRNSLTR had K♣7♥ while Unkn0wn123 showed 9♦9♣. The 9♠5♠5♥ flop all but sealed it, giving Unkn0wn123 a full house. The board ran out A♥ then 6♦, and TRNSLTR was sent railward in fourth.

BlackDevel78 burns out in third

Eight hands later with the blinds up to 2.5m/5m with a 625k ante, BlackDevel78 was down to just 270,122 to start a hand and was thus all in from the button before the deal. The Ossi called from the small blind, then checked down the 4♠4♣4♦7♣4♥ board with Unkn0wn123. All had quads, of course, but BlackDevel78 had the worse kicker with 5♣3♥ to The Ossi's 8♥3♠ and Unkn0wn123's T♥6♥, and just two were left.

The Ossi is the one after upending Unkn0wn123

Heads-up play began with former Super Tuesday winner Unkn0wn123 in front with 88,243,030 to The Ossi's 56,497,970. The lead changed hands in the first hand between the pair, however, after The Ossi enjoyed a double-up.

In that one The Ossi open-pushed with J♣8♥ from the button and Unkn0wn123 called right away with A♦J♦. The board then brought two eights, coming 8♠K♥7♦6♥8♣, giving The Ossi trips and the pot of nearly 113 million.

The next hand after that saw Unkn0wn123 open-raise all in for 31,120,060 from the button and The Ossi call. Unkn0wn123 had 9♠6♥ and The Ossi K♣5♣, and after the board came 4♦J♦2♥8♥2♦ it was The Ossi claiming the latest SCOOP title.
