SCOOP 2014: louilou90 chops out a win in Event #17-L ($27 FL Omaha Hi/Lo)
Pot Limit Omaha is a game that's grown in popularity in recent years, but how about when omaha is fixed limit and hi/lo? Well, apparently that's pretty popular too as a huge field turned out for Event #17-L of the 2014 SCOOP schedule. It was a $27 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event and well all was said and done, it was Germany's louilou90 who survived a former SCOOP champ, and a five-way deal, to grab the title.
The event kicked off with a field of 2,631 in attendance, producing a prize pool of $64,591.05 which was more than double the advertised guarantee.
Among the starters today were the likes of Adrienne Rowsome, Martin Hrubý, Jonathan Duhamel, George Danzer, Bryan Huang, Naoya Kihara, Marcin Horecki and Bertrand Grospellier but they failed to reach the money. The top 342 players would finish in profit, but unfortunately Russia's nadya_kozh would cop the pain of the bubble to miss out on the $42.63 min-cash by the narrowest of margins.
Marcel Luske (201st - $64.59) and Christophe de Meulder (70th - $109.80) were the two Team PokerStars Pros to finish in the money.
When former Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo SCOOP winner TheLandlord1 made two pair with kings and threes against louilou90's trip nines, with no low possible, TheLandlord1 was bounced out in tenth place to see our final table set as follows:
Final Table Line Up
Seat 1: louilou90 (2,102,284 in chips)
Seat 2: pilaa (3,135,141 in chips)
Seat 3: serhiy1989 (1,975,416 in chips)
Seat 4: rosci (392,999 in chips)
Seat 5: McL01 (820,338 in chips)
Seat 6: mvgto (1,091,352 in chips)
Seat 7: Tim "TurnRiva" Marsters (1,159,181 in chips)
Seat 8: talorm1 (1,655,059 in chips)
Seat 9: Perrymejsen (823,230 in chips)
rosci was the short stack entering the final table, and was first to go. Betting was capped preflop before rosci's last chips were all in on a flop of K♣T♠2♥. pilaa made the call with A♠A♦2♣7♥ for the lead over rosci's 9♣5♠J♣A♣. The 7♦ turn and 9♠ river brought a pair of nines for rosci but that wasn't enough as pilaa made two pair with sevens and deuces. pilaa increased the chip lead over the field as rosci picked up $549.02 for ninth place.
Perrymejsen would soon follow in eighth place. Perrymejsen was all in preflop with 2♦4♦A♣J♦ against louilou90's 4♣K♠A♥K♦. The board ran out Q♦T♥J♥3♦9♣ to leave Perrymejsen with a pair of jacks but that was well short of the Broadway straight for louilou90. Perrymejsen collected $936.57 in prize money.
McL01 and mvgto were then involved in a raising war that led to McL01's last chips committed on a flop of T♠8♣4♦. McL01 held A♦9♣7♦3♦ for a straight and low draw against mvgto's 5♣J♦A♥T♥ for top pair and low draw. The turn was the A♣ and river the 3♥ to give mvgto aces and tens for the high, and an eight-five low to scoop the pot and eliminate McL01 in seventh place for $1,582.48.
serhiy1989 was next to go after a rather unfortunate fall of the turn and river:
serhiy1989 had top pair, but the turn and river brought talorm1 a running straight to eliminate serhiy1989 in sixth place for $2,228.39.
It was at this point that the five remaining players were tempted to look at deal numbers.
TurnRiva said, "chop?"
louilou90 said, "yes"
louilou90 said, "so everybody has to click the button!"
talorm1 said, "i clicked we can look numbs i guess"
TurnRiva said, "im super tired"
TurnRiva was the chip leader, so he took the largest portion as an ICM deal was agreed to, leaving $500 and the SCOOP title in the middle to play for.
louilou90 was sitting second in chips, but moved into the chip lead after the following pot where an interesting board was presented as louilou90 made a nice call down:
louilou90 said, "lol sry ;)"
louilou90 made another big call down moments later against TurnRiva, but it wasn't quite as successful as TurnRiva showed down two pair to scoop. TurnRiva then won another big pot against mvgto with aces up to take a handy lead over the final five.
mvgto couldn't recover from that hit and would be next to fall. The chips were all in on the flop of A♥2♦7♥ with mvgto committed with T♣J♦8♥J♥ for jacks and a flush draw as louilou90 showed T♠T♥6♣A♦ for top pair and a low draw. The Q♦ turn and Q♠ river left louilou90 in front to remove mvgto in fifth place for a post-deal amount of $4,920.65 - in excess of $2,000 more than the original payout.
Not much went right for talorm1, who blinded down to under three big blinds which were committed preflop with A♦Q♠5♥2♦. louilou90 made the call with 2♣5♦4♣4♥ and caught a favourable board of K♦J♠4♠9♦J♥. A full house for louilou90 scooped the pot to leave talorm1 to depart in fourth place for a healthy $6,024.95 in prize money.
TurnRiva was still in front, with louilou90 challenging and pilaa trying to keep pace. When louilou90 won a nice pot with trip queens, pilaa was in trouble and moments later was all in preflop with 6♠A♦3♦K♠. TurnRiva took it on with 4♣Q♦A♣T♣ with the board running out 8♦J♣6♣A♥9♠. pilaa made two pair with aces and sixes, but TurnRiva made a queen-high straight to eliminate pilaa in third place for a collect of $5,849.56.
Heads-up Chip Counts
Seat 1: louilou90 (7,561,945 in chips)
Seat 7: TurnRiva (5,593,055 in chips)
louilou90 held a narrow chip advantage, and extended that lead further after flopping a set of sevens on the very first hand of heads-up play.
A couple of hands later, louilou90 made trip kings to collect another healthy pot to have TurnRiva reeling. The two players chopped a few sizable pots before louilou90 was able to finish the job.
The action was three-bet preflop before TurnRiva's final chips went in on a flop of 6♣8♣K♦. TurnRiva was committed with 3♣7♦5♦5♣ for flush, straight and low draws against louilou90's 9♦K♥A♠5♠ for top pair with gutshot straight and low draws. The turn was the J♦ which didn't change anything and the T♥ river left louilou90's pair of kings to take the pot. Tim "TurnRiva" Marsters is a former SCOOP champion, but he falls at the final hurdle today, taking $6,508.67 down under for second place. Our champion today is Germany's louilou90 who wins the SCOOP title and $6,711.06. Congratulations!
