SCOOP 2015: It's about more than just winners

cards_shuffle_scoop.jpg

Keeping track of the "stand out" winners from SCOOP 2015 is proving a difficult task. Just as you think you have a moment to look back on some pretty remarkable results, 12 new ones appear from out of the night, names such as b8chatz, Fabahaba, Ib6121, Sir Watts, Maroonline and puropoker123. Or to put it another way, Billy Chattaway, Illari Tahkokallio, Luke Schwartz, Mike Watson, Emil Patel and Victor Lemos, who only the day before earned a first SCOOP title.

It's difficult to know where to begin. What's more, to look at the box scores (which you'll find by scrolling below) you begin to notice the near misses, the players who nearly won but didn't, and owing to space and our short attention span, don't actually get much of a mention from us for their efforts.

So let's change that today.

Billy "b8chatz" Chattaway earned a SCOOP title to go with his TCOOP title, but saw off some experienced opposition at the final table, not least Ami "UhhMee" Barer in eighth and Stefan "mindgamer" Jedlicka who finishing runner up, and was only one spot from winning his second SCOOP title of the year.

In between all of them though was Jason Mercier, reaching another final table and busting in sixth place - tantalisingly close to equally Shaun Deeb's record of four SCOOP titles in one year.

Ilari Tahkokallio will always be a favourite on the PokerStars blog for that sporting gesture he made during EPT Berlin some years back.

Following a little "off field trouble" that year Tahkokallio returned to a hand that had been disrupted, waiting for a river card to be dealt. I forget the detail but he was ahead, and seemingly about to eliminate a player. But the "crowd trouble" meant that there was no way to assure players that cards had not been interfered with. Tahkokallio didn't flinch in insisting the cards be dealt again. He lost the hand, but would go on to finish second to Kevin MacPhee.

Well Tahkokallio can now add a SCOOP title to his record. No interruptions, but he did have to steer around some tricky opponents, with Lief "drawgle17" Force in sixth place and our own Naoya "nKeyno" Kihara in third place.

Other Team Pros experienced near misses: Eugene Katchalov finished fourth in Event 27-H, won by Luke "Ib6121" Schartz, while Johnny Lodden reached sixth place in Event 29-H, an event won by Emil Patel.

So many ways for these stories to turn in a different direction.

But they didn't, and you can read each of them by clicking on the headline links of all the scores listed below. Remember you can browse the entire list of SCOOP results on our dedicated results page, while get details on everything related to the series on the SCOOP homepage.
