SCOOP 2015: capoch captures #11-H & $46K; Turner 2nd, Martins 3rd, Deeb 5th ($2,100 2-7 Triple Draw)

Event #11-H, the $2,100 buy-in deuce-to-seven triple draw event, featured yet another stacked field in a "High" event for the 2015 Spring Championship of Online Poker. Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier played in an effort to extend his two night streak of winning SCOOP titles, as did the likes of Viktor "Isildur" Blom, Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick, Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo, and more top pros.

In the end, though, it was capoch of Sweden outlasting them all -- including a final table with Jon "PearlJammer" Turner, Yuri "theNERDguy" Martins, and SCOOP virtuoso Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb -- to grab the win in this one to earn the title and $46,325 first prize.

A total of 85 took part, building a $170,000 prize pool that more than doubled the $75K guarantee. It took almost eight hours for the field to be carved down to two six-handed tables and the money bubble to burst, and with 12 players left kkopghy enjoyed the chip lead by a wide margin over nearest challenger capoch.

Paul "paulgees81" Volpe was the first player eliminated to make the money, finishing in 12th for $4,250. He was followed by Trueteller (11th) and Lou Fu (10th), each of whom also earned $4,250. Two-time SCOOP winner Colisea (ninth), villepn (eighth), and Phil "Jackal69" Shaw (seventh) next hit the rail, earning $6,375 apiece.

With Yuri "theNERDguy" Martins the chip leader and Jon "PearlJammer" Turner sitting on the short stack, the final table was underway.

Seat 1: Jon "PearlJammer" Turner (Mexico) -- 9,906
Seat 2: Yuri "theNERDguy" Martins (Brazil) -- 138,601
Seat 3: Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb (Mexico) -- 106,352
Seat 4: capoch (Sweden) -- 85,498
Seat 5: MIBondiola (Argentina) -- 63,367
Seat 6: kkopghy (Russia) -- 21,276

During the first half-hour of the final table Jon "PearlJammer" Turner was able to battle back to climb out of the danger zone, while kkopghy slipped back down to just over 6,000 with the limits up to 2K/4K.

Then a hand arose in which Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb raised from early position, kkopghy three-bet to 6,000 from the small blind, Deeb raised back, and kkopghy called all in with the few chips remaining.

kkopghy would draw one card on all three draws while Deeb took one initially then stood pat thereafter. Deeb showed 9♥8♣7♠4♦3♥, better than kkopghy's A♠8♠7♣4♣2♠ to send the latter out in sixth.

A short while later the limits were 2,500/5,000 and Deeb had become the table's short stack with just over 8,500. Deeb raised from the button, MIBondiola called from the big blind, then MIBondiola drew three cards and Deeb two. MIBondiola led with a bet and Deeb called, leaving a little more than 1,000 behind.

On the second draw, MIBondiola discarded one and Deeb two, then after MIBondiola bet Deeb called all in. MIBondiola then stood pat and Deeb drew two again on his last opportunity to do so.

MIBondiola turned over 8♣5♠4♣3♣2♥ for smooth eight while Deeb had paired up, showing 9♠8♦6♦6♠4♥. Deeb was out in fifth, coming a few spots shy of earning a sixth career SCOOP title.

A couple of orbits later, they were in the same level when MIBondiola raised from UTG, Jon "PearlJammer" Turner three-bet from the button, then after the blinds folded MIBondiola capped it and Turner called. Both drew one card, MIBondiola check-called a Turner bet, then MIBondiola drew one and Turner stood pat. MIBondiola checked again, Turner bet, MIBondiola raised all in, and Turner called. Both then kept their hands through the final draw.

MIBondiola showed 8♣7♣5♥3♣2♣ for an eight, but Turner had 7♠6♦5♣3♥2♥ for a seven and MIBondiola was out in fourth. That's two fourth-place finishes in two nights for MIBondiola who also finished fourth on Tuesday in Event #8-H ($2,100 NL Draw).

The final three marched on into the tournament's 12th hour, with former short stack Jon "PearlJammer" Turner moving up into the lead while Yuri "theNERDguy" Martins fell back to just over 32,000 or about four big bets.

Then came a hand in which Turner raised from the button, Martins three-bet from the small blind, Turner capped it, and Martins called. Both players drew one and then checked, then drew one apiece again. This time Martins bet, Turner raised, Martins reraised all in for just a little more, and Turner called. Both stood pat on the third draw.

Martins turned over 8♣6♠5♦4♦3♣, but Turner had that beat with 7♦6♥5♠4♣2♣ and they were down to two.

After starting the final table sixth of six, Turner led to begin heads-up play with 251,454 to capoch's 173,546. capoch soon closed the gap, however, to grab the lead, and the two would fight back and forth for much of the almost full hour's worth of heads-up.

Turner would build up a big lead at one point, but then capoch came back again to push well in front. Then -- some 12-and-a-half hours after the tournament had begun and with Turner down under 35,000 -- the final hand took place.

It started with Turner opening with a predraw raise and getting called, then capoch drew three while Turner took two. capoch then fired a bet and Turner called all in with his last chips, and the pair each drew one on the second draw and stood pat on the last.

capoch turned over 8♦7♥6♠3♠2♣, which was enough as Turner had 9♠6♣5♠3♣2♥. capoch had done it, capturing all 425,000 chips in play to win the SCOOP title and watch.

Congratulations to capoch for taking down Event #11-H and its tough final table.
