SCOOP 2015: dimaria533 earns first COOP title in Event #10-L ($11+R PL Omaha 6-Max)
Only one thing was missing to boost the juice in SCOOP Event #10 even further, a turbo format. That doesn't mean the Pot Limit Omaha tournament with a 6-Max structure and unlimited rebuys wasn't enough to force the action to a frenetic pace.
PLO tournaments always move along quite nicely with the four-card aspect and short-handed tables just added to the mix. The $11 buy-in medium version of the event drew 3,280 players and just 11 of them remained when the two-day tournament paused after 10 hours.
Those 3,280 players mashed the rebuy button 5,729 times then 2,340 of them took the bonus add-on at the end of the rebuy period. All combined they created a $113,940 prize pool which blasted past the $50,000 guarantee. Only 420 of those players earned a piece of the pool with the next champion set to pick up nearly $18,000.
While 11 players survived to come back for Day 2, former SCOOP and MicroMillions champion JTDStreet might be excused for skipping it all. He had penny4554 all-in on the very last hand before they paused the clock and he was in it deep.
His K♠K♥9♠7♥ needed help against A♥A♠J♥2♠ but was drawing dead on the turn by the time the board read 8♠6♣6♥A♣. The hand moved penny4554 near the chip average while JTDStreet was under 20k, less than 40% of the small blind, which he was force post on the first hand back.
Similar to his final hand at the end of Day 1, JTDStreet picked up a big hand K♦K♥J♥T♣ in his forced all-in against 23noraB's big blind A♥8♦3♥2♥. It could have been the first step to a great come back story but the 7♦2♣2♠ flop was unkind and the 8♣ was overkill. No two out love on the river and he was gone in 10th.
The last ten players wasted no time mixing it up and were on the final table bubble just 15 minutes after returning. They were running through an impressive number of hands per hour and it took ten hands to knock out the 7th spot. It began when mpienaar20 made a pot-sized raise under the gun, ZuiGeli re-potted enough to put mpienaar20 all-in and it was called.
The case Ace hit on the A♣7♠8♣ flop to leave mpienaar20 drawing micro-thin and the Q♣ had him dead in 7th to set the final table for Event #10-L.
Final Table chip counts:
Seat 1: ZuiGeli (5,424,818 in chips)
Seat 2: Iia007 (703,024 in chips)
Seat 3: dimaria553 (9,459,493 in chips)
Seat 4: Natural_Phe (14,013,412 in chips)
Seat 5: paaskebaesen (6,666,983 in chips)
Seat 6: h0m3r_13_ (2,459,270 in chips)
Iia007 doubles right out of the gate
Iia007 came to the final table with less than ten big blinds and put them to use on the first hand. Iia007 raised it up to 420,000 and paaskebaesen came along in the big blind to the K♦8♦3♠ flop.
paaskebasen followed up by putting Iia007 all-in and it was quickly called with A♦A♣Q♠4♣ leaving paaskebaesen's 4♦4♥2♣2♠ needing help. The 3♦ turn left just three outs for the knockout but the river 3♥ gave Iia007 a full double to 1,466,048.
Still short but workable.
paaskebaesen escorted to value town
The two big stacks decided to mix it up and it turned out well for the leader. dimaria553 opened to 600,000 from the button and paaskebaesen came along in the big blind to the K♣Q♥T♠ flop. paaskebaesen slowly check/called 866,666 then very deliberately checked/called for 1,600,000 after the turn came A♦.
paaskebaesen checked once again after the 3♠ river and dimaria553 put out another 2,200,000. After getting into the bonus clock time, paaskebaesen called only to see dimaria553 flopped the joint with A♠Q♦J♣8♦ and paaskebaesen mucked. Impossible to know what dimaria553 was up against but it was a nice 10,000,000 pot going to the leader.
Iia007 license to cash, eliminated in 6th
Iia007's attempted come back had a good start but fell short after calling a three-bet shove from Natural_Phe. Iia007 needed to catch with A♣K♥5♠4♣ against K♠K♦J♦J♣ but the T♦9♦7♠ was no help at all.
The 5♦ flushed Natural_Phe to leave Iia007 drawing dead to the 2♥ to go out in 6th place for $2,014.
Seat 1: ZuiGeli (2,795,545 in chips)
Seat 3: dimaria553 (21,343,085 in chips)
Seat 4: Natural_Phe (8,526,614 in chips)
Seat 5: paaskebaesen (3,444,672 in chips)
Seat 6: h0m3r_13_ (2,617,084 in chips)
paaskebaesen sees bad flop, eliminated in 5th
With so many cards in play and post-flop options, it's pretty rare to see a PLO player drawing completely dead after the flop. There are usually a few miracle outs but paaskebaesen found a tough way to see one of those hands.
It began when paaskebaesen opened under the gun for a pot-sized bet before ZuiGeli put him all-in from the button with A♦A♠K♥7♠ and paaskebaesen called with A♣J♦7♣6♥.
paaskebaesen wasn't looking great pre-flop but the 3♥3♦3♠ gave ZuiGeli the unbeatable boat before the meaningless 8♣ turn and 9♦ river. It was a brutal flop but paaskebaesen was the next gone, eliminated in 5th place for $3,951.
The remaining players paused action at the four-handed table after a few minutes to discuss a deal with the following chip counts.
Seat 1: ZuiGeli (3,990,217 in chips)
Seat 3: dimaria553 (24,026,115 in chips)
Seat 4: Natural_Phe (5,976,500 in chips)
Seat 6: h0m3r_13_ (4,734,168 in chips)
They quickly came to agreeable terms to chop up the remaining four places worth of prize pool leaving $1,000 behind for the winner.
ZuiGeli cashes in on chop, eliminated in 4th
ZuiGeli was firmly locked it at his number and could only add another $1,000 if he managed a win. For that ZuiGeli needed chips. Just two hands after making the deal, ZuiGeli raised to 900,000 with dimaria553 and Natural_Phe coming along to the J♠5♥2♥ flop.
Natural_Phe checked, ZuiGeli bet out the pot which left just 340,217 behind, and dimaria533 put him all-in. ZuiGeli was in great shape with A♣A♠9♠9♦ against K♦K♣6♥4♠ but the bad beat K♥ turn left ZuiGeli with just two outs on the river. Neither appeared when it came 5♣ to send ZuiGeli out in 4th place for $9,565.
h0m3r_13_ sent "home", eliminated in 3rd
The quick post-deal action continued and h0m3r_13_ was the next to get his chips moving. It was a battle of the blinds with chip leader dimaria553 and it took three bets to get h0m3r_13_'s chips in the middle with Q♣9♦9♥7♥ against A♣J♥8♥7♣.
dimaria533 hit top pair plus the nut flush draw on the J♣4♦3♣ flop and left h0m3r_13_ with just four outs after the 7♠ turn. The T♣ flushed dimaria533 and h0m3r_13_ was sent out in 3rd for his negotiated prize of $10,176.
Seat 3: dimaria553 (23,554,400 in chips)
Seat 4: Natural_Phe (15,172,600 in chips)
dimaria553 hangs on to win first SCOOP title
Natural_Phe put up a worthy fight even with just $1,000 on the line with the rest of the prize pool locked up. dimaria553 actually came close to losing the lead but battled back to take a big advantage again.
The final hand of the tournament saw Natural_Phe min-raise from the button and dimaria553 called to the T♥5♣4♠ flop. A series of smaller bets progressively built up to Natural_Phe getting all-in after five bets.
dimaria553 was ahead with flopped bottom set 8♦6♦4♦4♥ against Natural_Phe's top pair, open-ended straight draw A♦T♠7♥6♠. The K♥ left Natural_Phe with just seven outs to stay alive but he missed the T♣ river to go out in 2nd place for $10,900.
dimaria553 played a great PLO game throughout the final table and capitalized to earn a SCOOP Championship along with $16,004.10 for the efforts.
