SCOOP 2015: DrUPSWING finishes up #5-M on top; Moneymaker 4th ($215 Badugi)

While Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier was battling at the final table of SCOOP #5-H, another Team PokerStars Pro made the final table of the "M" version of the same Badugi tournament -- Chris "Money800" Moneymaker.

Moneymaker battled gamely for a fourth-place finish, while DrUPSWING -- winner of the 8th Anniversary Sunday Million last year -- eventually took the title and $11,778 first prize.

There were 302 taking part in this $215 buy-in event, building a $60,400 prize pool that more than doubled the tournament's $25,000 guarantee. Once bellababy knocked out korjae in 41st, they'd reached the cash with toril274 sitting in first position with a little over 150,000 and Moneymaker among the contenders with a top 10 stack.

As the field was carved from 40 down to 16, the cashers included Adam "Adamyid" Owen (31st, $407.70), Dan "Danny98765" Smith (26th, $407.00), Kyle "KJulius10" Julius (25th, $407.70), and Seth "Setherson2" Davies" (22nd, $604.00).

Smith is just coming off a successful PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final festival where he made three final tables including winning a €5,000 "Midnight Hyperturbo" event.

With 16 left, slinkyshop edged out in front, then not long after SCOOP stalwart Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb was the next eliminated (16th, $906.00).

kerkel1 (15th), Vovan7778 (14th), and Tollwuttroll (13th) were the next to go, like Deeb earning $906 apiece. Then DTFobos (12th), WTFOMFGOAO (11th), Amosov (10th), and slinkyshop (ninth) successively were eliminated, with each of them earning $1,208.

After eight-and-a-half hours they'd reached the final table, with ALEX2PAIRS the new chip leader and Chris Moneymaker still in the mix.

All eight players nearly survived to the nine-hour break, but in the last hand prior to that it was Speedy_g_619 going out in eighth after falling in a hand to Moneymaker.

After Speedy_g_619 had called a Moneymaker predraw raise, Speedy_g_619 would then check-raise after the first draw (earning a call), then bet enough to be all in after the second. Speedy_g_619 drew one the first round and stood pat thereafter, while Moneymaker drew a card on each of the first two draws before holding onto his cards on the third.

Speedy_g_619 showed 8♦6♣2♥A♠ for an eight-Badugi, but Moneymaker had made a five with 5♣4♠3♥2♦ to send Speedy_g_619 railward in eighth.

Just a couple of minutes later a very short woody1234321 was all in before the first draw versus DrUPSWING. woody1234321 then took two cards, two again, then one, while DrUPSWING took two, one, and one. In the end woody1234321 had a three-card hand with 4♥4♠2♣A♦ while DrUPSWING had made a Badugi with 5♠4♣3♦A♥, and woody1234321's run had ended in seventh.

About 10 minutes later former WCOOP winner Vincent "Vingtcent" van der Fluit raised from UTG, toril274 three-bet to 21,000, UziStuNNa called from the button, and van der Fluit called as well. All three players drew a single card, then it checked to toril274 who bet. UziStuNNa called, van der Fluit raised all in to 8,630, and both of the others called.

On the second draw van der Fluit and UziStuNNa each drew one while toril274 stood pat, then on the third van der Fluit drew again, UziStuNNa stood pat, and toril274 broke a hand by drawing one. A UziStuNNa bet on the final round then got toril274 to fold.

UziStuNNa showed 7♥5♣2♠A♦ while van der Fluit only had a 3-card hand with 9♣4♦2♥A♣, and Vingtcent was knocked out in sixth.

toril274 was the next player to get short, surviving one all-in situation versus Moneymaker after ultimately drawing a better 3-card hand than the Team PokerStars Pro. toril274 would grow short again, however, and was soon all in again before the draw versus UziStuNNa who then stood pat through all three draws while toril274 drew one, then one, then two.

toril274 ended with just a 2-card hand -- T♦7♠4♠2♦ -- while UziStuNNa had T♠7♣5♦3♥ and toril274 was done in fifth.

They crossed the tourney's 10-hour mark, and about 15 minutes later Moneymaker had become the one on the short side among the remaining four. A hand then arose in which UziStuNNa raised from UTG, DrUPSWING three-bet from the button, then Moneymaker capped it from the small blind, getting calls from from UziStuNNa and DrUPSWING.

Both Money800 and DrUPSWING stood pat while UziStuNNa drew one, and subsequent betting saw UziStuNNa stepping aside and Moneymaker all in versus DrUPSWING. Both continued to stand pat through the final two draws, with DrUPSWING showing 6♣5♥2♠A♦ for a six-Badugi. That was better than Moneymaker's 9♣4♥3♠2♦, and the Team PokerStars Pro was out with a fourth-place finish.

The final three played on, with DrUPSWING swinging upward to the chip lead, ALEX2PAIRS also building a stack, while UziStuNNa became the shortest of the three.

Then with the limits 7,000/14,000, UziStuNNa raised from the small blind, DrUPSWING called from the big blind, then both players drew a card. UziStuNNa bet and DrUPSWING called, then on the second draw UziStuNNa stood pat while DrUPSWING drew one again. Once more UziStuNNa led with a bet and DrUPSWING called.

UziStuNNa continued to be content to stand pat on the third draw while DrUPSWING drew one card a last time. UziStuNNa then led, DrUPSWING raised, and UziStuNNa called all in.

UziStuNNa had 9♠8♥4♣3♦ for a nine-Badugi, but DrUPSWING had come back to edge that hand with an eight, having 8♣6♦5♠A♥. UziStuNNa was out in third.

Heads-up started with DrUPSWING well ahead with 924,082 to the 585,918 of ALEX2PAIRS, and through the first few hands DrUPSWING immediately started to chip away, eventually knocking ALEX2PAIRS down under 60,000.

Then came a hand in which DrUPSWING raised to 32,000 on the button and ALEX2PAIRS called, then both players drew two cards and checked. The second draw saw both draw one card, and after ALEX2PAIRS checked DrUPSWING hesitated a moment before betting and ALEX2PAIRS called all in with the 25,918 left.

ALEX2PAIRS drew one card this time while DrUPSWING stood pat, then revealed K♦T♣7♠A♥ for a K-T-7-A Badugi. It was better than ALEX2PAIRS's three-card hand -- 7♥6♥4♦2♠ -- giving DrUPSWING the victory.

Congratulations to DrUPSWING who adds a SCOOP title to that huge 8th anniversary Sunday Million victory from March 2014. This one was worth somewhat less than the $1,038,540.31 DrUPSWING won that day, but the win was surely satisfying nonetheless.
