SCOOP 2015: Florian "happyfister" Bußman earns a second SCOOP title in Event #16-H ($2,100 Pot-Limit Omaha, Heads-Up)

The cream certainly rose to the top in the 2015 SCOOP's high buy-in heads-up PLO bout, as three of our final four players were already SCOOP champions. Finnish superstar Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro won the SCOOP Main Event in 2011, added a second SCOOP title in 2013, and picked up a WCOOP bracelet last fall. Cash gamer Rui "RuiNF" Ferrreira won his first SCOOP title last year in a $700 Heads-Up NLHE event and Florian "happyfister" Bußman picked up his first SCOOP watch in 2010's Event #19-H (NLHE Big Antes). ShipitFTW911 was the only semifinalist without a watch, but came close last year, finishing fourth in Event #20-M ($215 PLO 6-Max, Re-entry). Unfortunately, he would not join the ranks of champions today as happyfister came away with his second SCOOP title, winning a hard-fought final round against RuiNF.

179 players lined up for Event #16-H, creating a $358,000 prize pool. 16 places were paid with $107,400.00 up top. Day 1 saw five rounds play out, reducing the field to its final four competitors.

THE SEMIFINALS: RuiNF def. ShipitFTW911

RuiNF had whittled ShipitFTW911 down to 2,730 in chips when both players limped in and saw a A♠9♣3♠ flop. RuiNF check-called ShipitFTW911's 45-chip bet and both players checked the 2♦ turn. The river fell the 3♦ and RuiNF checked a third time. ShipitFTW911 bet 120 and RuiNF came in with a raise to 440. ShipitFTW911 called, but mucked in the face of RuiNF's T♥9♥9♠5♠ for nines full of threes.

ShipitFTW911 dropped to 2,200 in chips. Early in the third level, he opened for a min-raise to 80 and RuiNF three-bet to 240. ShipitFTW911 called and they saw a T♥9♥3♦ flop. RuiNF check-called 360 from ShipitFTW911, then turned around and led for 1,200 when the 2♣ turned. ShipitFTW911 called and the Q♦ came on the river. RuiNF bet 3,600 and ShipitFTW911 folded, electing to save his last 512 in chips.

A few hands later, ShipitFTW911 was down to his last 64 chips and committed them preflop with 9♠8♣7♣2♠. RuiNF called with J♦7♠6♦4♣. The board ran out J♣T♦T♥K♥5♥ making RuiNF jacks and tens to win the pot and the round.

THE SEMIFINALS: happyfister def. Lrslzk

Happyfister had Lrslzk on the ropes early, reducing him to 1,845 in chips during Level 2. However, Lrslzk doubled up in short order when his A♥A♦5♦3♠ held up against K♠K♦3♦3♥. Lrslzk inched out to the chip lead and had 6,572 behind when he opened for a 90-chip raise and happyfister called from the big blind. Happyfister check-called Lrslzk's 122 bet on the 8♦5♠2♥ flop and check-called another 330 when the 3♦ turned. The river was the 9♠ and happyfister checked a third time. Lrslzk bet 845 and happyfister called, but couldn't beat Lrslzk's 8♣6♥4♦2♠ for a six-high straight. Happyfister fell to 2,041 after the hand and was down to 1,250 when he doubled up to stay alive, his 8♥7♣5♣4♦ making a straight flush on the T♦4♣3♣6♣Q♦ board vs. Lrslzk's K♣8♣6♥5♥.

By Level 5, happyfister was back down to 1,254 in chips and three-bet preflop to 450 when he picked up A♣J♣T♥9♥. Lrslzk called and they saw a 8♣4♥2♠ flop. Happyfister bet his last 804 and Lrslzk called with K♠8♥7♥2♣. The 6♠ turn gave happyfister a gutshot straight draw and the 7♠ river filled it, doubling his stack to 2,508.

Moments later, Lrslzk and happyfister went to war on a J♥8♥5♣ flop. Happyfister check-raised to 912, Lrslzk three-bet to 2,568 and happyfister called all-in with A♦J♦9♣5♥ for top and bottom pair. Lrslzk revealed Q♠Q♥5♠4♥. The turn was the 2♦ and the 4♣ made Lrslzk an inferior two pair as happyfister doubled again, this time to 4,410.

Nine hands later, happyfister doubled yet again, tilting this match heavily in his favor. In a pot Lrslzk three-bet preflop, happyfister bet 396 on the 4♣3♣2♥ flop. Lrslzk called, and both players checked the 4♠ turn. The river was the A♦ and Lrslzk checked to happyfister, who bet 931. Lrslzk raised to 4,305 and happyfister called all-in, revealing J♠T♠4♣2♥ for fours full of deuces. Lrslzk's aces and fours with A♠K♠J♣7♣ was no good and he sunk to 1,312 in chips.

Three hands after that, Lrslzk four-bet shoved preflop with Q♣Q♥7♥5♣ and happyfister called with A♠J♠J♣2♠. Although Lrslzk kept his lead on the 6♠6♦5♥ flop, happyfister turned the K♠ and rivered the 7♠ to make an ace-high flush and punched his ticket to the final round.

THE FINALS: RuiNF vs. happyfister

Happyfister and RuiNF's chip counts stayed relatively even until Level 2, when happyfister opened for 90 and RuiNF three-bet to 270. Happyfister called and they saw a T♥8♥8♦ flop. RuiNF checked, happyfister bet 297 and RuiNF called. The turn came the 5♠ and RuiNF check-called another 789. The river was the 6♠ and RuiNF checked a third time. Happyfister made it 1,891 to go and RuiNF folded, leaving himself with 3,173 in chips.

Happyfister continued to chip up, reaching 7,431 by Level 3, when he opened for 120 and called RuiNF's 360-chip three-bet. Both players checked the J♦9♥7♣ flop. RuiNF check-called 396 from happyfister on the T♥ turn and another 1,065 when the 3♣ rivered, but happyfister revealed A♦K♠Q♦9♣ and took down the pot with a king-high straight.

RuiNF was left with 748 in chips and sank to 533 before he doubled up, his kings and jacks beating out happyfister's kings and sixes. Two hands later, RuiNF put his chips at risk again. After both players limped in and saw a T♦8♦5♣ flop, RuiNF check-raised to 200 and happyfister three-bet to 680. RuiNF moved all-in for 926 and happyfister called.

RuiNF led with tens and eights, but happyfister had plenty of outs with a wrap draw. The turn was one of them, the 7♣ and happyfister made a ten-high straight. RuiNF needed a ten or an eight to survive, but got the 3♥ instead, as happyfister locked up the win.

Congratulations to Florian "happyfister" Bußman on joining the ranks of two-time SCOOP champions! He banked $90,920.00 for the win, while runner-up Rui "RuiNF" Ferreira earned $80,920.00.
