SCOOP 2015: kuhns89 notches 3rd SCOOP title with 8-Game win in Event #35-H; Calvin "cal42688" Anderson takes 4th place

Another day, another final table for Calvin "cal42688" Anderson.

The run good continued cal42688, who rode his recent rush all the way to a fifth final table at the 2015 SCOOP. An appearance at the final table for Event #35-H $2,100 8-Game marked consecutive days with a final table for cal42688. He had already shipped a SCOOP title last week and he put himself in reach of SCOOP title #7. Unfortunately, cal42688 was unable to return to the winner's circle when he busted in fourth place. Instead, multiple SCOOP winner kuhns89 (Austria) managed to navigate a treacherous field of mixed game specialists. A victory in Event #35-H secured a third career SCOOP title for kuhns89, who has now won a SCOOP in each of the last three years with victories in 2013 (Event #26-L Courchevel) and 2014 (Event #5-M Badugi).

2015 SCOOP Event #35-H $2,100 8-Game attracted 158 mixed-game enthusiasts. They generated a prize pool worth $316,000. Only the top 18 places paid out with $82,160.00 set aside to the eventual champion.

During Stud, gaunt-stacked Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier attempted to doubled up. Mercier made a final stand with K♠T♠7♠J♣A♣8♥A♠, but cal42688 won the pot with a nine-high straight and 5♦A♥6♦8♣9♠7♦6♣. Mercier was the proverbial "Bubble Boy" and missed the money by one spot.

With 12 to go, ChaoRen160 led with 136K, but cal42688 was right behind with 133K. With 8 left in the hunt, cal42688 tumbled to the back of the pack and assumed the not-so-coveted role as the short stack. The setback did not rattle cal42688. By time action was hand-for-hand on the final table bubble, cal42688 crawled out of the basement and chipped up to third overall. When the game switched to Stud during Level 37, cal42688 battled ChaoRen160 for the top spot.

During a round of Stud Hi/Lo, skalexjung bubbled off the final table in seventh place. Without a qualifying low, ElCast13 won the pot with two pair and J♣A♦7♠2♣T♦7♦T♠ versus skalexjung's pair of nines and 2♠3♦4♦6♠T♣9♠9♦. With skalexjung's demise, the final table of six was set.

After a disastrous round of Stud Hi/Lo, cal42688 sought a much-needed double up. Seat 5: ElCast13 (368,656)

With two to go, kuhns89 held the edge and was seeking SCOOP title #3. Heads-up lasted 25 minutes. ElCast13 seized the lead on the third hand by playing small ball, but kuhns89 regained the lead by taking down the first sizable pot on the fifth hand with a King-high flush. kuhns89 quickly accelerated a 6-1 lead, but could not deliver a knock-out blow. During Triple Draw, ElCast13 won a 240K pot with a 8-7-4-3-2 low to trim the deficit to only 2-1. Alas, that would be as close as ElCast13 would get. kuhns89 launched a counter attack and buried ElCast13 in two hands.
