SCOOP 2015: snirk has the last laugh winning Event #35-L ($27 8-Game)

Usually online reporters will take a peek at a tournament in the early goings to approximate when the final table will start up. It was nearly five hours into this SCOOP 2015 Event #35-L 8-game carnival and a Red Spade showed up top ten in chips. But, that Red Spade would fade as a past SCOOP champ would soon take the lead.

In the end the SCOOP champ could not match our winner either. After ten hours of play and a three-way chop between snirk, Nr1InEurope, and BryanMika, it would be snirk rising to the occasion, taking the largest portion of the chop ($6,605.57) and the Modavo champion's watch.

Read below for snirk's ride to victory.

Readers following SCOOP for the past week are likely familiar with Jason Mercier's current run for this year's Overall Player of the Series title on the back of three wins and 15 total cashes (as of Wednesday). The Team PokerStars Pro is currently tied for the lead with Russia's vovtroy who has a list of cashes longer than my kid's Christmas wish list.

The prize for first overall is huge: 2016 PCA package, SCOOP trophy, and $10K in cash. So, it was no wonder why the high stakes pro is playing everything and anything stamped with the SCOOP logo. While the early spree of chips pointed towards a deep run, Mercier would still pick up much needed Player of the Series points finishing in 57th place ($109.71). At the time of the bustout, Mercier would still have a strong stack in #35-M and unluckily bubbled the #35-H.

Of those remaining after eight hours and just three tables of five left, Ari "BodogAri" Engel who took down last year's Low Main Event for $187K would hold the chip lead for a brief time and looked ready to earn another watch.

Sunday Million champ Jason 'TeamWispy' Helder would be looking to notch a second part of the Stars Slam should the cards and chips fall in the right direction. The cards however did not obey as Helder would bow out shortly before the ninth hourly break in 13th place ($348.21) as only ten players remained.

Engel's run would also leave him short of the final table. Playing NLHE with blinds at 15K/30K ante 3,750 Nr1InEurope would lead out for 75,000 as BodogAri in the big blind shoved for 441,414 chips holding Q♥J♥. Nr1InEurope made the call with A♥T♦ as an ace on the turn 5♥ 8♣ 6♦ A♣ 6♣ would deny Engel a second SCOOP watch in eighth place ($715.50).

A short while later moving to Pot Limit Omaha, Phantom4444's shortstack would be all-in against xFeN1Xx after a flop of T♦ 2♠ J♥. Phantom444's A♦8♠T♠Q♥ would need to avoid xFeN1Xx's 3♦ K♠ K♣ Q♠ straight draw. The turn was ok 6♥, the river A♣ favored xFeN1Xx starting up the final table below:

Seat 1: xFeN1Xx (2246202 in chips)
Seat 2: Nr1InEurope (2012136 in chips)
Seat 3: Egption (419815 in chips)
Seat 4: snirk (2657799 in chips)
Seat 5: BryanMika (1449374 in chips)
Seat 6: Lord Codita (929674 in chips)

Egption: fenix called me names
Egption: he's mean
Egption: ban him plz

Egption was speaking of xFeN1Xx as some good-natured ribbing would kick off the final table. The shortstack would also proclaim to be the 5th best player left (and hoping the 5th best player wins).

Unfortunately the "5th best player" would leave first.

Egption would make it to the Triple Draw 2-7 level with bets at 80K/160K. Holding just 284,815 chips Egption would trade bets with nemesis xFeN1Xx trying to improve on a one-card draw. Egption would have to settle for a queen-eight Q♠ 4♠ 5♥ 6♣ 8♠ as xFeN1Xx stood pat before the last draw showing an eight-seven 4♥ 6♥ 7♣ 8♦ 2♥ for the winner. Hopefully the banter does not leave with Egption in sixth place ($1,068.49).

Out like clockwork

"Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well. To what do I owe the extreme pleasure of this surprising visit?".

It is possible xFeN1Xx spoke Alex DeLarge's words after BryanMika shoved the second shortest stack from the button. With the blinds up to 40K/80K ante 10K while playing NLHE, BryanMika would shove 653,496 chips as xFeN1Xx called off 354,529 from the big blind holding K♠9♦. Hopes for two live cards left after BryanMika flipped up 9♣A♣. The 4♠ 3♣ J♥ 2♥ T♠ board was equally unkind as xFeN1Xx earned $1,869.86 in fifth place.

Four minutes later in the Pot Limit Omaha round, the chip leader snirk would force a shortstacked Lord Codita all-in preflop. Pocket jacks K♦ J♣ J♥ 6♦ tried to hold against snirk's 6♥ A♠ K♣ 3♦. Both would catch trips with their king but snirk connected with the trey as well 8♣ 7♦ K♠ 3♥ K♥ sending Lord Codita out in fourth place ($2,742.78).

Money for all

After snirk found the new-fangled discuss chop button, the players continued their friendly intentions and chopped up the remaining prizepool leaving $500.00 aside for the champion.

snirk (Germany): $6,105.57
Nr1InEurope (Ireland): $5,800.38
BryanMika (Brazil): $4,886.25

BryanMika has already shown some Stud chops final tabling Event #28-L's Stud Hi/Lo just two days ago (finishing seventh). However, this tournament would also end for BryanMika without a watch. Shortly after the chop BryanMika was not able to call a bet by Nr1InEurope after the third draw in deuce-to-seven, leaving the shortstack with just 171,514.

On the next hand BryanMika would run straight into snirk's seven-six 4♣ 7♥ 6♣ 5♣ 2♠ as the ten-nine 8♠ T♦ 4♠ 9♣ 3♥ was not enough to stay afloat in third place ($4,886.25).

Nr1InEurope vs. snirk

According to urban dictionary a "snirk" is a combination of the snort and smirk, perhaps a sarcastic reaction towards someone's bad joke. It's no joke that snirk would take down the win after starting with a 6.7 million to three million chip deficit.

Just seven minutes into the tenth hour of play snirk would take down or chop 13 of the last 15 pots to open up a 8.4 million to 1.2 million chip lead playing the Omaha Hi/Lo round. With the bets up to 250K/500K both players would cap preflop as Nr1InEurope called off the remaining chips after the K♥3♦8♥ flop. Nr1InEurope's 4♣ 5♣ J♠ T♠ needed some help as snirk's 9♣ A♣ 4♦ K♠ top pair and better low draw looked to scoop. The 7♠ and Q♥ turn and river failed to improve Nr1InEurope's hand as snirk would take down SCOOP 2015 Event #35-L earning $6,605.57!
