SCOOP 2016: Australia's "Imluckbox" wins SCOOP-05-H: $700 NL Hold'em [6-Max] for $142,465.22
In the nearly three years since he started playing poker seriously, Imluckbox has developed a reputation as one of Australia's best up-and-coming players. The man from Melbourne is a familiar face as the annual Aussie Millions, and he's managed to amass $173,282 in live tournament earnings.
However, where Imluckbox truly excels is online, which he proved on Sunday night when he topped a field of 1,279 entries to win SCOOP-05-H: $700 NL Hold'em [6-Max], $400K Guaranteed for $142,465.22, nearly matching his live lifetime earnings. Not only that, Imluckbox, who honed his strategic fundamentals by playing chess prior to finding poker, did it by manhandling a final table that included established poker pros Sergio "Zcedrick" Aido and Nicolas "niccc" Chouity.
The event, which lasted seven hours and 45 minutes, attracted 1,279 entries, which created an $850,535 prize pool, more than double the $400K guarantee. The prize pool was distributed to the top 144 places, and some of the notables to notch a cash were Ami "UhhMee" Barer (131st - $1,403.38), Elior "Crazy Elior" Sion (33rd - $3,572.24), Liviu "0Human0" Ignat (28th - $4,252.67), Ivan "Negriin" Luca (9th - $14,884.36), Darren "darrenelias" Elias (8th - $14,884.36), and online poker's biggest tournament winner Chris "Moorman1" Moorman, who bubbled the final table in seventh place for $14,884.36.
It happened with the blinds at 25,000/50,000/6,250 when action was three-handed at his table. Moorman jammed the button for 678,757, and Imluckbox called from the big blind.
Moorman had a kicker problem, and it didn't get resolved as the board ran out T♠7♣T♦8♣4♥ to send him to the rail. Here's how the field stacked up at the start of the final table:
Imluckbox - 3,529,375
Incognita93 - 3,363,721
FoxyLisa - 2,123,756
Sergio "Zcedrick" Aido - 1,688,177
Nicolas "niccc" Chouity - 1,150,740
ImWithSumo - 934,231
Incognita93 the First to Go
The final table began with a series of double ups, many at the expense of Slovenia's Incognita93, who grew short before shoving his last 296,601 holding the A♣9♣ in the small blind. FoxyLisa woke up with the A♠Q♥ in the big blind, made the call, and sent Incognita93 home in sixth place after the board ran out 2♥8♥A♦7♥5♥.
Sergio "Zcedrick" Aido Does Away with Nicolas "niccc" Chouity
Not long after, action folded to Aido in the small blind and he simply moved all in to put the pressure on Lebanon's Nicolas "niccc" Chouity, who called off for 1,891,880 with the A♦7♠. He was out in front of Aido's J♠8♣, but the J♣3♦7♦ flop came down in the Spaniard's favor. Neither the K♦ turn nor 2♣ river helped Chouity, and he took his leave in fifth place for $36,487.95.
Imluckbox Flushes a Finn in Fourth
At that point, Imluckbox put his big stack to good use by consistently moving all in and turning the screws on his opponents. Eventually he did it from the button and Finland's ImWithSumo called off for 1,689,712 from the big blind holding the J♠J♣, which was well out in front of Imluckbox's A♣2♣.
The 6♠7♣Q♣ flop made things interesting by giving Imluckbox a flush draw, and while he didn't hit it on the 5♠ turn, he did on the 9♣ river. ImWithSumo was flushed in fourth place and earned $55,284.77 for his efforts.
Aido Takes His Leave in Third Place
Aido was the next to go after shoving 1,866,804 with the A♥6♣ in the small blind and receiving a call from FoxyLisa, who held the K♦Q♦ on the big. The K♣5♦T♣ flop gave FoxyLisa the lead, and Aido failed to regain it as the 7♥ blanked on the turn followed by the 3♠ on the river. Aido's third-place finish saw him pad his bankroll by $80,800.82 and set up the following heads-up match.
Imluckbox - 7,165,304
FoxyLisa - 5,624,696
Imluckbox Claims the Title
Imluckbox quickly extended his chip lead, and in what would be the final hand of the tournament, he raised to 404,240 from the small blind and then called when FoxyLisa moved all in for 3,017,011.
FoxyLisa got it in good, but Imluckbox paired up on the K♦2♥2♠ flop. The 3♠ turn meant FoxyLisa needed an ace on the river to survive, but it wasn't in the cards as the Q♦ bricked. The Swede earned $106,316.87 for finishing runner-up, while Imluckbox captured his first SCOOP title and the $142,465.22 first-place prize.
