SCOOP 2016: goleafsgo41 goes all the way in Event #30-M ($215 PL Mixed Omaha 6-Max Turbo Zoom)

Pot Limit Omaha has always been a game that requires a bit of gamble. So when you make the format six-handed, the structure turbo, run it through PokerStars' incredible Zoom software, and throw some Five-Card Omaha into the mix, then you've got a concoction that is the stuff that dreams are made of for PLO gamblers.

It was a whirlwind tournament that we saw today as part of the 2016 Spring Championship of Online Poker with Canada's goleafsgo41 emerging triumphant to win the SCOOP crown and almost $30,000 in just four-and-a-half hours of play.

It was Event #30-M of the 2016 SCOOP and was a $215 Pot Limit Mixed Omaha Event which meant that players would alternate between Pot Limit Omaha and Pot Limit Five-Card Omaha with every change of level. It was pure heaven for Omaha buffs!

A field of 839 players came together to form a prize pool of $167,800 to easily surpass the guarantee. Team PokerStars Pros Kosei Ichinose, Jason Somerville, Jason Mercier and George Danzer all missed the money, as did Australia's maxypaxy who bubbled the event in 109th place.

Naoya Kihara continued his impressive SCOOP with another cash, this time for $369.16 for 97th place as the only red spade in the money.

Thanks to the turbo structure, it would take only four hours of play to reduce the field to the final table of six. It would be a flush over flush hand that would leave Zinobrinho to bubble the final table and leave our final six as follows:

Final Table Line Up
Seat 1: NWO 500M MAX (719,256 in chips)
Seat 2: djuuud (2,820,008 in chips)
Seat 3: robc1978 (1,210,320 in chips)
Seat 4: Matheus "pimenta7" Pimenta (1,239,741 in chips)
Seat 5: goleafsgo41 (1,523,379 in chips)
Seat 6: XD89lol<3 (877,296 in chips)

The final table blinds kicked off at 30k/60k which meant there wasn't a lot of room to move for any of these players. XD89lol<3 wasted no time with a double up first hand of the final table, flopping two pair against the top pair of pimenta7. That was followed by a double up to NWO 500M MAX who picked off a bluff from goleafsgo41.

The first to go would be former SCOOP winner Matheus "pimenta7" Pimenta. In a round of Pot Limit Omaha, pimenta7 shoved preflop from the button with A♥9♥6♠5♥ and XD89lol<3 called out of the big blind with K♣A♠7♦8♠. The board of 2♦Q♦J♦A♦3♥ gave both players a pair of aces, but XD89lol<3's kicker would take down the pot. pimenta7 would collect $5,034 for sixth place.

goleafsgo41 landed a big double up with a straight against djuuud's two pair, and followed that up with the elimination of NWO 500M MAX. It was Five-Card PLO that would see NWO 500M MAX three-bet preflop with A♠6♦A♥5♠J♦. goleafsgo41 made the call and the flop landed 2♠T♦Q♦. NWO 500M MAX moved all in with aces, straight and flush draws, but goleafsgo41 made the call with K♦T♥Q♥K♥5♦ for two pair and a superior flush draw. The turn was the 4♦ to bring both players a flush and the river was 6♣ to see goleafsgo41 take the pot and leave NWO 500M MAX to exit in fifth place for $8,390.

goleafsgo41 would continue the run with a big double up through XD89lol<3 to take the chip lead. goleafsgo41 called a three-bet preflop and again flopped good with a set and flush draw to crack the kings of XD89lol<3.

However XD89lol<3 would recover some chips with the elimination of djuuud in a hand of Five-Card PLO. After raising preflop, djuuud moved all in at a flop of A♦4♦5♣, but XD89lol<3 made the call with 5♦8♦2♥6♠5♥ for a set plus straight and flush draws. djuuud was in trouble with Q♦A♣J♠K♣Q♣ and the J♦ turn and 3♣ river didn't help. XD89lol<3's flush was too strong to see djuuud depart in fourth place for a five-figure return of $11,746.

goleafsgo41 held the chip lead three-handed and went on a nice little rush, winning eleven of the last twelve hands of the tournament. The one hand that goleafsgo41 didn't win was the elimination of XD89lol<3 in third place.

With the blinds escalating quickly, XD89lol<3 called a preflop raise in PLO and then moved all in from the big blind at a flop of Q♠A♥5♣. robc1978 made the call and showed 4♦Q♦A♠7♣ for top two pair to pip XD89lol<3's T♦3♠J♣A♣. The turn was the 5♦ and the river T♥ improved XD89lol<3 to two pair but it wasn't enough to stay alive. XD89lol<3 picked up $16,780 for third place.

Heads-up Chip Counts
Seat 3: robc1978 (2,585,328 in chips)
Seat 5: goleafsgo41 (5,804,672 in chips)

It was a more than two-to-one chip lead for goleafsgo41 and it would take just five hands for the Canadian to secure the victory.

The first four hands were taken down preflop without contest, before robc1978 made a stand on hand number five. robc1978 three-bet all in with a monster A♥4♣A♠5♥ to have goleafsgo41's 7♥Q♣4♥A♦ in some trouble. The flop landed 2♠8♦9♥ which changed nothing as robc1978 looked good for a double up. However the 4♦ turn and 7♣ river brought goleafsgo41 a remarkable two pair to scoop the pot and the title!

It was an unlucky end for robc1978 who picks up $21,814 for second place as goleafsgo41 takes the SCOOP title and $29,583.14 in prize money! Congratulations!
