Daily SCOOP Day 12: Looking ahead to the final weekend

A lot to talk about ahead of the final weekend of SCOOP 2017. New winners, new names at the top of the leader board, even if they are familiar ones. Dozens more events to play over the weekend. Read on for details...

Day

12

The headlines

Looking at the four big results of the day there wasn't really a small first prize to be had anywhere, but chief among them was Chance "ChanceCU" Kornuth.

Kornuth's first prize of $161,671.84 was not even the biggest of the day, but considering the gap to the next player it's he who is probably still celebrating as we speak. There was a gap the size of Brazil to second placed Andre Akkari.

The biggest prize meanwhile went to Ognjen "psjebemvas" Šekularac, who won SCOOP 40-H using the medium of PLO 6-Max. He had to beat Justin Bonomo and Sami Kelopuro to do so, as you can read below.

There was a first 'COOP title for mikki696 in SCOOP 42-H, while €urop€ean took honours in SCOOP 41-H, which came with a first prize of more than $252,000.

Current leader board standings

It's Friday, and we're heading into a big weekend. There's a lot to play for, so let's go nuts with the leader board details....

After spending several days lurking in the top five Isildur1 now tops the Overall leader board, ten points again of Naza114. The two of them have a sizeable lead over third place MITS 304, who finished second in SCOOP 40-M to keep their chances alive.

From that there are three other contests in running for High, Medium, and Low tournaments.
In the High MITS 304 is the clear leader ahead of Brazilian player Bernardo "bedias" Dias. Then comes a roll call of equally familiar names...

Poker In The Ears

A new episode of Poker In the Ears has been released, with special guest Jason Mercier...

"There's a lot of poker news to cover this week, including the announcement that PokerStars live events are returning to 15% payouts, a couple of stories from mainstream news publications (one of which massively tilted James), and the big winners from #SCOOP2017.

Poker-In-The-Ears_19May17.jpg

"Jason Mercier joins the boys to discuss his trip to Toronto to play and stream the $25k High Roller. He also talks about the prospect of becoming a dad, and offers some interesting insights into Jason Somerville's daily routine and repetitive diet!

"In 'Adventures in Online Poker', Matt reveals his new role as a PokerSchoolOnline tutor, and recaps the first edition of 'Monday Nights with Matt' on Twitch. And Sean Gunnells from Las Vegas proudly demonstrates his knowledge of 'Trailer Park Boys' in 'Superfan vs Stapes'."

Spin & Go winner

While most eyes were on SCOOP others were watching PokerStars create a second Millionaire from PokerStars Spin & Go tournaments. The latest winner of the PokerStars Makes Millionaires promotion was meks2410 who won the huge $1 million jackpot, having bought in with a $10 stake. What's more he hit a full house for good measure.

We're happy to report that "meks2410" will not be the last millionaire to be made in the next few days. On May 21, two millionaire-making tournaments will begin in the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP):

The SCOOP-55-H $10,300 Main Event starts at 14:00 ET while SCOOP-01-H $1,050 NLHE Phase 2 begins at 12:30 ET. It's going to be a memorable weekend for at least a couple of PokerStars players.

For more details click here.

Coming up... Sochi

So let's see where we are here... while you're keeping an eye on SCOOP, and another on Millionaire Maker promotion, we need you to somehow keep a third eye on events in Sochi that begin this weekend and run through to the end of the month.

Biological impossibility aside, there's plenty to look forward to as the PokerStars Championship Sochi kicks off. That's what's going on at the tables. But I'm contractually obliged to give details of the fun off the tables as well, which this time includes a special "StarsFun Karaoke Singstar night" at Medora Karaoke Hall on Tuesday May 30. There are also daily "virtual reality experiences", as well as the things like bungee jumping and extreme tours, that appeal to the crazy brave.

If you survive the bungee jumping, or if you simply prefer your fun to be poured into a glass, the Player Party takes place at Sky Bar on Saturday May 27 from 9pm. If you're heading to Sochi you'll find further information on all of this at the PokerStars welcome desk upon arrival.

If you're not heading to Sochi then you'll be able to take advantage of full coverage from the PokerStars Championship on the PokerStars Blog, starting from next Tuesday 23 May. We'll have live exclusive live updates of the Super High Roller which kicks off then, before the Main Event gets started on Thursday 25 May.

That's all for this week. Good luck to everyone in SCOOP and to those making their way to the PokerStars Championship Sochi.
