SCOOP 2017: Antonio7 zooms past all in Event #48-H win ($1,050 5-Card NLO8, 6-Max, Turbo, Zoom)
Similar to dropping by a Ben & Jerry's ice cream parlor, there are a number of flavors to taste while roaming through the Spring Championship of Online Poker tournament series. Much like tasting everything from basic vanilla to Chocolate Cherry Garcia and Truffle Kerfuffle, a player here can hold two, four, five, or seven cards while chasing a slice of internet fame and a little padding to their bankrolls.
For example, take Event #48-H $1,050 buy-in 5-Card No Limit Omaha Eight-or-better, 6-Max, Turbo with sprinkles on top. A mouthful of a title that cloaked all the tables until three were left. Five-minute blind levels on par with the sister Turbo Champion of Online Poker series, adding to the prize pool with re-entries, and variance of NL08 will reward our skillfully lucky winner a SCOOP title and $62,160.00. Antonio7 would take away that top prize after outlasting Adam "Adamyid" Owen who won a similar event last year.
Keep reading below for Antonio7's fast ride to Event #48-H victory.
The Zoom curtain was lifted minutes before the conclusion of the third hour. Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier nearly came out of the Zoom portion of the tournament on one bullet, but settled for a small profit in 23rd place ($2,516.00).
If you follow the -COOP tournaments here, one name crops up nearly every year at all three of the major series. Shawn "buck21" Buchanan was the first player to complete the Triple -COOP (in 2014) thus holding World Championship of Online Poker, TCOOP, and six SCOOP titles. A title tonight and Buchanan would tie Calvin "Cal42688" Anderson for the most overall SCOOP titles.
Buchanan, along with 14 of his newest friends would head to the last hourly break before the final table. Shawn however would need to finish a better than 13th for a profit after expending all three re-entries to make it this far.
Much like betting five bucks on a slot machine and "winning" two dollars on the spin, Buchanan was turned away in 15th place. Deciding to gamble a little after min-raising and getting three-bet all-in by Spider91_PL, the Triple -COOP winner failed to connect taking away $3,108.00 in 15th place.
Two-time -COOP champ villepn would follow Buchanan in 14th place as two tables remained ten minutes after the break. The speed was relentless as the next ten minutes contained exactly one hand with post-flop betting. Much like a mosh pit at a Pantera concert, shove or be shoved was the rule as the players barreled towards the final table.
Adam 'Adamyid' Owen would exploit the chip lead on one of the two tables remaining, pushing with the confidence that even a loss or two would only be as annoying as a mosquito bite. After Spider91_PL failed to put Buchanan's chips to good use after exiting in eighth-place, hand-for-hand play would begin.
While most SCOOP tournaments tend to have a prolonged hand-for-hand session, this one would last all of a few minutes. The three-handed table with Adamyid, the chip leader would not determine gieras' fate. Instead Antonio7 would manage a nut-nut hand, denying gieras the chance at a second -COOP title (2015 WCOOP Event #39) and starting up the final table below:
Seat 1: zilbeee (344224 in chips)
Seat 2: dynoalot (249538 in chips)
Seat 3: SenorPokes (495229 in chips)
Seat 4: Beeethoven87 (160952 in chips)
Seat 5: Adam 'Adamyid' Owen (1074639 in chips)
Seat 6: Antonio7 (635418 in chips)
Omaha is a game loved by many but there are a few sharks whose names continually appear at final tables. It is no coincidence, Adamyid, Beeethoven87, and dynoalot also made the final table of Event #22-H (fixed limit Omaha eight-or-better) this year.
Consistent with the events leading to the final table, the first elimination came quickly. On the third hand of the final table and Adamyid comfortably in the chip lead holding 1.1 million, SCOOP 2016 Event #14-M champ (similar to this event except one less card) Beeethoven87 tried to test Adamyid with a blind versus blind shove of 141K. A decent 9♣ 2♠ A♦ 4♣ K♣ made the call an easy one as Beeethoven87 turned over 8♠ 3♥ J♥ 4♠ 7♥. Two pair on the flop and a better low 9♥ A♠ 5♠ Q♦ 7♦ as Beeethoven87 hit a sour note in sixth place ($11,840.00).
Eight minutes later with Adamyid still holding a sizable chip lead, Antonio7 would try to disrupt Owen's air of superiority after calling SenorPokes 432K button shove with A♦ T♦ Q♠ 4♣ K♠. SenorPokes' aces 5♣ A♥ A♠ Q♦ J♠ were ahead preflop, but three broadway cards later Q♥ 7♣ J♥ T♥ 4♦ we would say adios to SenorPokes in fifth place ($17,760.00).
With Adamyid and Antonio7 both holding over a million chips and blinds up to 10K/20K ante 2.5K, dynoalot looked desperately for a spot to stick a stack that dwindled under five BBs. It was not much but dynoalot would open-shove holding three BBs and 2♠ 9♣ 6♣ K♠ J♥. Adamyid closed down the betting with the re-shove from the button with Q♥ 8♣ 6♠ A♦ 5♦. A straight by the turn with a better low 4♥ 7♥ Q♠ 6♥ 3♠ would add to Adamyid's chip lead and send dynoalot off in fourth place ($23,680.00).
My coverage of last night's Event #41-H would showcase a final table that lasted nearly six hours. This is one was done in less time than it took for an elimination thanks to a one-two punch at the end.
First, zilbeee and Antonio7 actually looked at a rare flop 4♥T♥A♠ before getting their funds in the middle. Antonio7 recently scooped Owen for the chip lead holding nearly 66 percent of the chips in play and had no problem shoving with 4♦ 6♥ J♦ A♣ 2♣. Zilbeee's 5♠ 3♠ A♥ 9♣ 7♦ was enough to call all-in for 272K. Unfortunately, zilbeee would not catch a better low on the 3♦ turn nor T♣ river as zilbeee took leave in third place ($34,040.00).
Antonio7: "gl bro"
Adamyid: "can icm/chip chop if you want"
This barely made it to the chat box before Owen shoved 704K over a limping Antonio7. The call for the tournament came quickly as Antonio7 rolled over suited aces with a decent low redraw A♥ J♦ 5♣ A♠ 2♠. Owen would need some help with kings 4♥ 2♦ K♥ K♦ 6♣ but a turned flush draw 9♠ T♣ 5♥ T♥ Q♦ was as much as he got.
Thanks to the aces holding, Antonio7 would take away $62,160.00 and the 2017 SCOOP Event #48-H title in four hours 22 minutes!
