Long night is all right: KipsterDK takes down Sunday Million
7,177 players lined up their $215 to join the $1.5 Sunday Million Guarantee tournament tonight, meaning PokerStars would be footing the bill to assure our final nine tonight would be playing for a $225,000.00 first place prize. After 7,167 eliminations, one of the final table players could be found on the Team PokerStars Pro page.
Andre "aakkari" Akkari was up late to show there's a reason why he wears a Team PokerStars Pro patch while competing around the world. Adding a Sunday Million win to his already successful online career might help pay for the World Series of Poker madness starting up this week. The Team PokerStars Pro would a take a big hit to his stack right before the final table as Pokermon1960's A♠J♦ would out run Akkari's A♦K♦ when jacks hit the turn and river on the following board 8♦ T♣ T♠ J♠ J♥ leaving the Team PokerStars Pro with just one million chips at blinds at 100,000/200,000 ante 20,000.
TUGA_ACE finished off final table bubble boy Jack17444 when Jack17444 was forced to commit a micro stack of 730,833 as philipoo and TUGA_ACE called. After the 2♠ 8♥ 6♣ 9♠ 9♥ board played out only TUGA_ACE flipped up cards, and the pocket treys 3♣ 3♠ were good sending Jack17444 home with $8,250.00 in tenth place.

Andre had his work cut out for him not only as the short stack, but with huge chip leader on his right. bbs99 came into the final table as the huge chip leader thanks in no small part to winning two three-way all-ins consecutively and knocking out four people in the process with three tables left. This is not the first time bbs99 has made it into the big money at the Sunday Million, as just two months ago in March there was a third place finish for $88,547.20 (see link here).
Pokermon1960 proved to be Akkari's bane to the end, as the person responsible for crippling the Team PokerStars Pro also gave him his walking papers. With blinds at 125,000/250,000 ante 25,000 A raise to one million chips from Pokermon1960 got Andre to commit his remaining 1.5 million chips to the pot with big slick K♣A♦. Pokermon1960 made the call easily covering with pocket fives 5♥5♦ for the race. Akkari couldn't find the ace nor a king needed to overcome the pocket pair on the 2♠ J♣ 7♠ J♥ 3♥ board as he was eliminated in ninth place ($11,625.00).
Team PokerStars Pro Tom McEvoy had the mike this evening to give Andre well wishes and congrats on the $11K score.
With blinds at 150,000/300,000 ante 30,000 Poker Man was only sitting with three big blinds in the cutoff and found A♥3♦ to open shove with. Folding around to the big blind, philipoo made the math call but found the J♥3♥ to be in bad shape for the 2.2 million chip pot until the 9♥K♦4♥ opened up a flush draw. The draw would get there on the K♥ leaving Poker Man needing a heart on the river to stay in. 7♣ was not the card, as Poker Man was delivered $18,000.00 for the eighth place finish.
Eight hands later TUGA_ACE's short stack would go into the middle shoving UTG for 1.7 million chips and blinds still at 150,000/300,000 ante 30,000 against Pokermon1960. Watch the hand play out below:
The preflop disadvantage proved to be too much as TUGA_ACE was not able to catch a ten on the 5♠ 8♥ 4♣ 7♦ Q♠ board and took home $32,250.00 for the seventh place finish.
As the blinds rose to 200,000/400,000 ante 40,000 bbs99 continued to add to the chip lead reaching 26 million with PlatinumStar KipsterDK in second place with 17 million chips. The two short stacks philipoo and guideguy decided to get their similar mid two million chip stacks into to middle preflop for a 6.2 million chip pot. 2♠A♠ for philipoo and K♦J♦ for guideguy as both were suited hoping to hit a big flop. guideguy found a second jack on the J♥9♠Q♣ to take the lead on the hand, but the A♣ would shift the advantage back to philipoo. A 3♥ river found guideguy reaching the end of a ten hour journey and heading back home with $46,500.00 for sixth place.
After knocking out guideguy, philipoo went right back to work and snagged a double up at KipsterDK's expense evening out the chips a bit (save bbs99's huge stack) as the break hit with the following chip count and the players returning to 250,000/500,000 ante 50,000 blinds:
1. bbs99 27,052,617
2. praetoriancz 16,546,016
3. Pokermon1960 10,291,527
4. philipoo 9,689,680
5. KipsterDK 8,190,160
During the break another WSOP Main Event champ dropped in as Team PokerStars Pro (and defending World Champion) Peter Eastgate was announcing his departure for Las Vegas to head to the series.
KipsterDK took a huge chunk of bbs99's stack after raising to 1.225 million and got calls from praetoriancz on the button and bbs99 in the small blind. Flop comes out 7♥8♥4♣ as bbs99 decided to lead 1.5 million into the raiser, but KipsterDK came over the top for 8.7 million total. With top pair holding Q♦8♦ bbs99 made the call creating the near 22 million chip pot. KipsterDK however held the overpair with pocket jacks J♠J♣ which would hold on the 3♦ and K♥ river as bbs99 lost the chip lead for the first time at the final table...
... but not for long as bbs99 would catch Pokermon1960 thieving ways in the following hand to reclaim the chip lead:
After Pokermon1960's elimination in fifth place ($61,500.00) the remaining four began to kick around the idea of a chip chop as the blinds went up to 300,000/600,000 ante 60,000.
McEvoy and crew punched up the numbers with each player taking home over $100,000 but philipoo shoved the chop money down the toilet as play continued shortly afterwards.
As the blinds bumped up to 400,000/800,000 ante 80,000 so did the urgency to discuss a chip chop deal. But, philipoo with the short stack of around ten big blinds continued to abstain from a unity of money and four handed play continued.
bbs99 would catch a little bit of bad luck, then ended up out of the tournament. After raising out of the small blind for two million, bbs99 would face a shove from philipoo in the big blind for nearly eight million more. A♥Q♥ for bbs99 was well ahead of philipoo's A♣T♠ until the 7♦ 2♠ T♥ gave philipoo the lead with top pair. The pair would hold up on the 9♠ turn and J♥ river to send the 20 million chip pot over to philipoo. Tilt may have settled in after the beat, as on the very next hand bbs99 would shove the remaining 6.9 million chips preflop with Q♦6♦ and get a fairly quick call from philipoo again. This time it was philipoo in the lead holding T♦A♥ again but it would be bbs99's turn to outflop the better hand hitting a six on the 7♠ 6♥ J♠ flop. Safe on the 8♠ turn, but philipoo would spike an ace on the A♦ river to send bbs99 home in a disappointing fourth place ($79,500.00).
Armed with chips, philipoo offered a white flag to discuss a three-way deal and with the kind help of the 1983 World Champion a deal was struck.
The players sat back down to 500,000/1,000,000 ante 100,000 blinds as play extended into the 11th hour to fight for the $30,000 set aside for this week's champion.
praetoriancz would be the first to fall as KipsterDK wielded the chip lead with an iron fist, putting the other two to the test on every button. After a raise to three million from praetoriancz, KipsterDK again put the other player to the test and shoved all-in. With Q♠T♦ praetoriancz made the call only to see the bad news of KipsterDK's T♠A♥. No one connected on the J♣ 4♣ 3♣ 4♦ K♣ board and praetoriancz got a 9K boost for third place after making the deal for $129,139.50
Two hands later with KipsterDK holding over a six to one chip lead, KipsterDK and philipoo would play out the last hand of the tournament shown below:
And when the 4♥ hit the virtual felt, Supernova KipsterDK laid claim to the Sunday Million title and with the chip chop plus $30,000 brought the total winnings to $206,834.57!
In the end philipoo's rejection of the first chop numbers netted an extra $60K, and as the runner-up tonight, $174,580.93 for not giving up.
