Sunday Million: 147_star shines the brightest in $258K win

sunday-million-thumb.jpgAnd for the finale of the Sunday Majors, the $215 buy-in $1.5 million guarantee Sunday Million, which will be the last Sunday Million until the poker hurricane known as SCOOP ends three weekends from now. We're sure the absence of the Sunday Million that the 114 events of SCOOP will be able to handle your need for big dollar tournaments. Especially since the first event of SCOOP the $2,100 and $215 buy-in levels each carry a one million dollar guarantee for their respective NLHE 6-max events.

But, that's next week, this week we're here to brag about yet another $1.5 million guarantee being smashed in the Sunday Million. 8,776 combined to create a $1,755,200 prize pool with 1,260 players taking small pieces of that pool and leaving the largest share for tonight's champion who will take away over a quarter of a million ($258,194.60 to be exact). Team PokerStars Pro Hevad "RaiNKhaN" Khan made a deep run tonight/this morning but succumbed in 168th place to win the Team PokerStars pros last longer and $947.80 for the effort.

On to the bubble where the_blues57 who was mopping up one table like it was a personal ATM, but it would be the adjacent table where our bubble boy would be escorted from the tournament. 147_star with over 21 million in chips, three-bet an UTG raise from Eduts to 1.25 million. Not backing down with the blinds at 125K/250K ante 25K, Eduts pushed over the top for 6.1 million total. 147_star didn't need a hand ranking chart to make the call with pocket aces A♦A♠ as Eduts turned up J♥A♥. A bright spot came on the flop T♠ K♠ 6♥ giving Eduts an inside straight draw. But, Eduts couldn't find the needed lady on the 3♠ turn nor 3♣ river to finish in tenth place ($9,302.56) setting up the final table below:

Seat 1: deglingue (3624292 in chips)
Seat 2: ze_caiçara (2035391 in chips)
Seat 3: Benjamin89 (15127046 in chips)
Seat 4: the_blues57 (20854961 in chips)
Seat 5: Parky 32 (8168545 in chips)
Seat 6: lumpicat (2366425 in chips)
Seat 7: Hohojirozame (3168466 in chips)
Seat 8: DrEskilstuna (4438020 in chips)
Seat 9: 147_star (27976854 in chips)

Sizable blinds 125K/250K ante 25K got the action going from the get-go as ze_caiçara doubled up on the very first hand of the final table pushing pocket eights past the pocket deuces of Parky 32 for a 4.3 million chip pot. The very next hand we saw yet another all-in preflop but this time someone would take leave from the table. Hohojirozame faced a three-bet all-in from DrEskilstuna of his original 650K bet from UTG. Hohojirozame would make the easy call holding pocket kings K♣K♥ and was well ahead of the pocket tens T♥T♣ of DrEskiltuna. That was until the board spat out the other two tens in the deck 5♦ T♠ 9♣ T♦ 7♠ giving DrEskiltuna quads and Hohojirozame a $13,602.80 bad beat story in ninth place.

Action slowed down for a few orbits with preflop raises taking down the blinds and antes until ze_caiçara tried to raise to 600K from UTG + 1 and we three-bet by the_blues57 to 1.75 million. ze_caiçara would shove in the remaining 3.6 million chip as the_blues57 made the call with Q♣A♠. Pocket eights for ze_caiçara didn't have much stamina to out race the aggressive chip leader as a queen would hit the flop and hold on the 9♦ Q♥ K♣ 6♠ 2♣ board to ship the 7.8 million chip pot to the_blues57. ze_caiçara would get a nice ROI for the $19,307.20 earned in eighth place.

Two hands later with the blinds moving up to 150K/300K ante 30K we would see our second set of quads, but who got it? Check out the video below as Parky 32 and lumpicat go all-in preflop:

Quad queens for lumpicat's Q♣Q♠ against the 6♣A♣ of Parky 32 on the 5♣ Q♥ 7♥ Q♦ 5♥ board meant Parky 32's time at the Sunday Million final table had come to an abrupt end in seventh place ($35,104.00).

Nine hands later lumpicat was back at it. Both lumpicat and Benjamin89 would call a 2.4 million chip all-in from deglingue to see a flop of 8♣ 8♦ A♣. Check-check for the turned T♣. Check-check again to see the four-flush 9♣ on the river and lumpicat seemed to like that card enough to shove for 4.5 million as Benjamin89 made the call. Benjamin89 T♥K♣ and deglingue 4♣3♣ both made a flush but neither of them could beat the flopped full house T♠T♦ of lumpicat who scooped up the entire 16.7 million chip pot and sent home deglingue in sixth place ($52,656.00).

Benjamin89 would get a couple of those chips back in the very next hand doubling up off the_blues57 as A♣Q♥ would sneak past the A♦K♣ of the_blues57 when a queen hit the flop 4♦ Q♣ 3♦ 2♣ 7♣ and held through the board. 13.1 million chips and Benjamin89 had new life.

This would end the string of all-ins and figure pots for a while as the blinds moved up to 200K/400K ante 40K. Aside from a brief mention of a deal, the players didn't re-visit the idea immediately until a big hand between Benjamin89 and DrEskilstuna developed. DrEskilstuna would lead out for 1.2 million from UTG as Benjamin89 wasted no time in shoving for 11.5 million with big slick suited A♥K♥. Folded back around to DrEskilstuna who would make the call with pocket jacks J♦J♥ creating a 23 million chip pot. The flop 6♠ Q♠ 3♦ was safe for the jacks, but the K♠ on the turn swung the advantage to Benjamin89 who would avoid a jack on the river T♠ eliminated the doctor in fifth place ($70,208.00).

147_star would extend a growing chip lead during the 250K/500K ante 50K blind level with some aggressive play. After the the_blues57 led out for 1,234,321 and a call from lumpicat, 147_star bumped it up to 3,456,789 (do we see a pattern here?). the_blues57 decided not to continue but lumpicat made the call to see a 4♥ 6♦ 2♥ flop. Continuation bet from 147_star for 3,456,780 as lumpicat went for a min-raise to 6.9 million but that hardly dissuaded 147_star as the chip leader shoved putting lumpicat in uncomfortable spot like the backseat of a VW Beatle and folded giving 147_star the 22.6 million chip pot.

lumpicat would last until after the hourly five minute break as the blinds moved up to 300K/600K ante 60K. Holding J♦T♥ UTG, lumpicat would shove all-in with under 10BBs and was called quickly by 147_star as the blinds went to go watch whatever might be on TV at 2am. 147_star held a dominating A♠T♠ as the board went down 6♥ 6♣ K♦ 6♦ 3♣ as 147_star's ace kicker played to eliminated lumpicat in fourth place ($87,760.00).

Towards the end of the 300K/600K ante 60K the_blues57 had enough of 147_star taking all the pots and open shoved from the small blind for 8.9 million holding 7♥T♠. With over 60 million chips 147_star made the call holding K♦Q♥. the_blues57 had two live cards until the turned pair of queens came out J♥ 5♥ 6♣ Q♣ making the 8♠ river as worthless as a discarded parlay card. For the mid-table switch from maniac to well-calculated aggression, the_blues57 takes home $131,640 tonight in third place as 147_star took in another 18 million chips to set up heads-up play.

Seat 3: Benjamin89 (17795796 in chips)
Seat 9: 147_star (69964204 in chips)

A big lead for 147_star but the heads-up play was over before it started as it only took three hands to determine a champion. In the final hand of the Sunday Million final table, 147_star kept the pressure on with a raise to 1,610,408 as Benjamin89 pushed over the top to 11 million. After a few blinks of time passed, 147_star decided to call with 4♦K♦ as Benjamin89 rolled over T♠Q♣ for a race to the finish. Well, almost a race as the king would hit the flop 8♦ K♣ A♥ and Benjamin89 directed his attention to hitting a jack. 8♥ on the turn was no the broadway card needed, not was the 7♣ on the river and with the remaining 22.2 million chip pot 147_star became this week's Sunday Million champion earning $258,194.60 with the win. Runner up Benjamin89 would not be leaving empty handed, taking down $188,684.00 in a hard fought tournament that almost lasted 11 hours.
