Bmky88 beats besar_cz to grab $161K and Sunday Million title

Sunday Million logo NEW.PNGIt was the first Sunday in July, signaling the start of the second half of 2011 and the very essence of the summer months. It was an ideal season, in many parts of the world, for swimming, roasting some meat/vegetables on the barbecue, and getting together with family and friends.

With plenty of hours for that on the weekends and during holidays, poker players typically put those activities on hold during tournament time on Sundays, especially for the Sunday Million on PokerStars. And why wouldn't they? There's a $1 million guarantee each week, and the prize pool most often surpasses that amount for an even larger pile of cash available for distribution.

In addition to the money up for grabs, the coveted Sunday Million title is one that online poker players strive to add to their list of accomplishments. With that, they entered today's event. And the results were:

Players: 5,718
Prize pool: $1,143,600
Paid players: 855

Considering many poker players were already in Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker, it was a surprise to find a few Team PokerStars Pros in the mix. However, the only one of them to make it into the money was the one and only John Duthie. Though he finished in 318th place for $491.74, he was the top finishing player with a PokerStars logo next to his name.

The tournament played on until nearly 10 hours into the tournament to find the last two tables, but hand-for-hand didn't go into action until Kingoooo departed in 11th place.

It was cardelis58 who got involved with Cuzco and uarts2 preflop. After the J♣9♥4♠ showed on the flop, Cuzco bet, and cardelis58 called all-in. Uarts2 folded, and Cuzco turned over A♥8♥ to the K♥9♠ of cardelis58. But the A♣ on the turn made a pair of aces, and the 7♦ sent cardelis58 out in tenth place with $6,632.88.

Francix stays on top going into final table

The last table of the night began in Level 36, with blinds at 100,000/200,000 and a 20,000 ante, along with these starting chip counts:

Seat 1: uarts2 (2,650,915 in chips)
Seat 2: besar_cz (5,852,607 in chips)
Seat 3: Crusher Jun (7,948,720 in chips)
Seat 4: WhiteRabbito (4,379,160 in chips)
Seat 5: iso dj (6,573,836 in chips)
Seat 6: Cuzco (7,894,971 in chips)
Seat 7: bmky88 (3,447,111 in chips)
Seat 8: Francix (9,647,856 in chips)
Seat 9: R.J_Legit (8,784,824 in chips)

It didn't take long into the action to see the shortest stack make a move. The hand started with that player, uarts2, calling a raise from R.J_Legit, and Crusher Jun and bmky88 also called. The 8♦4♦J♦ flop brought a bet from uarts2 and call from Crusher Jun, while the other two players folded out of the hand. Upon seeing the 8♣ on the turn, uarts2 moved all-in with K♠J♠ for two pair, but Crusher Jun called with K♦9♦ for the flopped flush. The Q♠ on the river changed nothing and sent uarts2 home in ninth place with $8,920.08.

And commence the double-ups! Besar_cz rose to the top of the charts with a double through cuzco and a 12 million chip pot from Crusher Jun. Bmky88 doubled through besar_cz to stay alive, Crusher Jun did it through R.J_Legit, and Cuzco repeated the process at the expense of Francix.

Besar_cz takes charge

WhiteRabbito did double through besar_cz once, but the two tangled again. WhiteRabbito pushed all-in with A♥J♠, and besar_cz called with Q♠Q♦. The board of 7c]7♠9♣T♦Q♣ only gave besar_cz the full house, which eliminated WhiteRabbito in eighth place with $14,295.00.

Francix doubled through bmky88, and Crusher Jun accomplished a double through Cuzco. In a full circle of sorts, Cuzco then doubled through Francix.

That last blow to Francix produced an all-in a few hands later with K♥3♦, and besar_cz called from the small blind with A♠J♦. The board of J♣5♦4♥2♣5♠ gave besar_cz and left Francix with $25,159.20 for the seventh place finish.

R.J_Legit was getting low on chips and finally made a move with A♣3♥, but besar_cz made the quick call with A♠A♦. Nothing about the board of K♣4♠9♠7♥J♣ could help R.J_Legit, who departed in sixth place with $36,595.20.

Iso dj hadn't been very active at the final table but eventually got involved in a hand with bmky88. When the flop of 4♦7♠J♦ was dealt, iso dj bet, but bmky88 raised all-in. Iso dj called all-in with 9♦8♦, and bmky88 showed K♦K♥. The 2♠ and Q♣ completed the board to let the kings stand, and iso dj left in fifth place with $48,031.20.

Shortly after, besar_cz made an all-in move from the small blind, but Crusher Jun called from the big blind with 3♦3♥. Besar_cz showed A♥9♦, and the board of 9♥Q♦A♠2♠K♦ made that two pair. Crusher Jun was crushed and out in fourth place with $64,213.14.

A lengthy three-handed battle ensued, though bmky88 was able to double through Cuzco early on to jump into a solid second place:

Cuzco managed a double through besar_cz to stay alive, but Cuzco remained the short stack of the three.

Eventually, Cuzco moved all-in again, that time with A♠5♠, and besar_cz called with 6♥6♣. The J♣J♦6♠ flop gave besar_cz the full house, and the 9♥ turn and 2♠ river send Cuzco packing in third place with $92,631.60.

Deal and done

The final two players began with these counts:

Seat 2: besar_cz (36,814,515 in chips)
Seat 7: bmky88 (20,365,485 in chips)

And the two immediately asked play to be paused so they could discuss a possible chip chop. Though they altered the given numbers a bit, they did agree that bmky88 would be guaranteed $141,000.00 and besar_cz would get $147,774.79. And of course, there would be an additional $20,000 set aside for the winner.

The two battled for a number of rounds, but it was this hand that finally enabled bmky88 to take control:

Two hands later, besar_cz pushed all-in with 8♠8♥, which seemed like a solid hand until bmky88 showed 9♣9♠. The board of Q♣T♦T♠9♥Q♦ gave bmky88 the full house, and besar_cz was showed the door, leaving with $147,774.79 for second place.

Bmky88 of Singapore won the tournament and $161,000 to go with that title. Congrats!
