Guaicuru 07 of Brazil Bests the April 17 Sunday Million Field for $121,830.20
There was no lack of excitement in the poker world on April 17, as live tournaments wrapped up in Sydney as part of the ANZPT and Lima as part of the LAPT. Champions were crowned, money was won, and players were logging on to their computers for Sunday online poker action. Hand in hand, it goes sometimes.
This week's Sunday Million boasted of a $1 million guarantee for those with the $200 + $15 buy-in or a seat via a bargain satellite. And when the registration period ended, there were 6,475 players at the tables, which ultimately created a prize pool of $1,295,000 and would pay out the top 990 players.
Speaking of making the money, there were a number of Team PokerStars Pros who did just that. The first to cash was Sebastian Ruthenberg who finished in 983rd place, then came Ruben "rubenrtv" Visser in 872nd, Matthias "mattidm" de Meulder in 514th, Dag Palovic in 484th, Liv Boeree in 268th, Nuno Coelho in 139th, and Alex "Allingomes" Gomes in 94th. The last Team Pro standing was none other than the dedicated and resilient Andre "aakkari" Akkari, who finished his run in 49th place.
The tables became fewer into the eighth hour, and only two of them remained as the ninth hour of the tournament came into view. But the group was stuck at 13 players for quite some time, and it wasn't until just before the tenth hour that hand-for-hand play began. And right as the clock struck to begin the tenth hour, rportaleoni moved all-in with A♥J♣, and weygang called with A♠3♠. It looked like the shorter stack was poised for another double-up, but the 7♣K♦A♦3♣2♦ disagreed. Rportaleoni was ousted in tenth place with $7,252.00.
Tropicana111 tops the leaderboard
Level 36 just began as did the final table, and the blinds were set at 200,000/400,000 with a 50,000 ante. Starting chip counts were as follows:
Seat 1: guaicuru 07 (4,151,222 in chips)
Seat 2: Fufu9 (7,040,654 in chips)
Seat 3: SamDMND (7,270,793 in chips)
Seat 4: tropicana111 (10,891,343 in chips)
Seat 5: MAS2184 (7,409,471 in chips)
Seat 6: 1fishboon (8,219,623 in chips)
Seat 7: yarikru (2,908,732 in chips)
Seat 8: 4Lisa (6,554,686 in chips)
Seat 9: weygang (10,303,476 in chips)
The first few rounds consisted of some players getting to know their fellow competitors, but eventually, MAS2184 made the all-in move from the small blind. Big blind player 1fishboon called with K♥9♣ for 3.5 million more, and MAS2184 showed 3♠3♦. The race was on, but only until the very first card of the K♣5♥J♥ flop. The 8♠ followed on the turn and the 2♦ completed on the river, and the threes were no good. MAS2184 was no more, out in ninth place with $10,036.25.
Guaicuru 07 doubled through weygang to stay in the game for a bit longer.
The next to try it was yarikru, who moved all-in from the small blind. Original raiser 1fishboon called with A♠A♣, and yarikru could only show A♦2♦. The board came 7♣T♣K♦A♥T♠, and yarikru was yanked from the table with $15,540.00 for the eighth place finish.
All of the seven remaining players decided to pause the game to discuss a deal, but it quickly went down the tubes once the chip-chop numbers were provided. Play resumed with no deal in place.
Guaicuru 07 was at it again, this time doubling through 4Lisa, leaving the latter with less than 800K chips. All of them went into the pot on the next hand for 4Lisa, and DamDMND, tropicana111, and 1fishboon all called. They check down the K♦A♠7♣7♠4♠ board, and 1fishboon had K♥T♥ to collect the pot. 4Lisa simply mucked and left in seventh place with $28,490.00.
Play stopped again for the final six players to discuss a deal. Again, they could not come to an agreement. Play resumed.
Third time's a charm
Fufu9 doubled through 1fishboon before play paused again. And against all odds, the players agreed on the chip-chop numbers! The payouts, with $20,000 aside for the winner, would be as follows:
Seat 1: guaicuru 07 (11,344.888 in chips) = $101,830.20
Seat 2: Fufu9 (9,396,824 in chips) = $91,460.42
Seat 3: SamDMND (9,928,551 in chips) = $88,967.75
Seat 4: tropicana111 (10,019,101 in chips) = $94,772.87
Seat 6: 1fishboon (13,738,382 in chips) = $114,571.05
Seat 9: weygang (11,322,254 in chips) = $101,709.71
Upon the return to play, guaicuru 07 was ready to move, but when he moved all-in, it was Fufu9 who called all-in with J♠J♦. That hand was going to race against the A♥K♠ of guaicuru 07, but the board of K♣2♠5♦K♥9♦ made trip kings and finished Fufu9 in sixth place, which was worth $91,460.42.
SamDMND was the next at risk, putting all chips on the line with K♠7♣ from the small blind. But tropicana111 called from the big blind with A♣9♣ and improved on the 5♣5♦A♦ flop. The 6♣ turn and J♣ river ended the hand and SamDMND's tournament, with $88,967.75 for fifth place.
With the following double-up, guaicuru 07 jumped out to a massive lead over the foursome:
Weygang then made a move with 9♠5♦, and guaicuru 07 called with a dominating A♠7♣. The flop of 3♦9♣4♠ hit weygang, and the Q♠ on the turn was irrelevant, but the A♣ on the river gave guaicuru 07 the best hand and eliminated weygang in fourth place with $101,709.71.
After tropicana111 doubled through 1fishboon, the latter moved all-in on the next hand with K♥5♦. Guaicuru 07 was there to call with 7♣7♥ which turned into a full house when the dealer provided a 3♥T♣Q♦T♠T♦ board. 1fishboon was gone in third place with $114,571.05.
Brazil battles Germany for the title
The final two players started with these counts:
Seat 1: guaicuru 07 (52,046,240 in chips)
Seat 4: tropicana111 (12,703,760 in chips)
On the sixth hand of the match, guaicuru 07 put his opponent to the test with an all-in move, and tropicana111 called for the remainder of his chips holding A♦T♠. Guaicuru 07 showed 9♥9♣, and that pair held up to the 7♥4♣8♠2♦K♣ board. Tropicana111 of Germany finished the tournament in second place for $94,772.87.
Congratulations to guaicuru 07 of Brazil, who walked away with the title and $121,830.20 for winning this week's Sunday Million. Congratulations!
