On The Mac on the money with $179,678.88 victory in July 10 Sunday Million
Much of the poker world is focused on Las Vegas, Nevada. There happens to be a little tournament going on there called the World Series of Poker Main Event. It's kinda a big deal. That's why the best in the business were tasked with traveling to Sin City to cover it.
With Simon Young, Brad Willis, and Stephen Bartley on the case, the PokerStars Blog is on fire with information, humor, and stories from the 2011 WSOP Main Event. And just a few hours ago, the final numbers of the tournament were made official. There were 6,865 players and a $64.5 million prize pool, which leaves a nice little sum of approximately $8.7 million for the ultimate winner. Check out the details here.
Meanwhile, the rest of the poker world functions as usual. And where would thousands of players congregate should they not be in Las Vegas? Online, surrounded by the comforts of home, and playing the big Sunday tournaments on PokerStars, of course.
That brings us to the $215 Sunday Million with its $1 million guarantee. And when registration closed, the final numbers were:
Prize pool: $1,159,200
Paid players: 855
And it was a week for players without the PokerStars logo. No team members made it into the money, as the last Team Online player standing was Javier "El_Canonero" Dominguez, who exited in 1165th place.
But 855 players did make it into the money, with nanu mare as the first to cash today for $312.98. Play continued for hours until only two tables remained, just before the ten-hour mark. After that point, action moved along at a reasonable pace.
At 15 minutes past the hour, players were hand-for-hand for the nine final table seats. And it only took a few minutes for thompsyturvy to push all-in with 6♣6♦. Original raiser On The Mac called with Q♦J♠, and the board of 2♣2♥T♠J♥J♣ made that into a full house. Thompsyturvy was out in tenth place with $6,723.36.
On The Mac in the lead
It was just into Level 37 that the final table began, with blinds at 125,000/250,000 and a 25,000 ante. Starting chip counts were as follows:
Seat 1: Stu-Shami (4,829,891 in chips)
Seat 2: BOKINHA (11,060,490 in chips)
Seat 3: lllothup (2,208,208 in chips)
Seat 4: WuzThat (9,583,516 in chips)
Seat 5: marcley1969 (2,465,586 in chips)
Seat 6: On The Mac (17,080,979 in chips)
Seat 7: pellompogos (3,022,001 in chips)
Seat 8: rizih (5,141,152 in chips)
Seat 9: Flyboys007 (2,568,177 in chips)
Not only did On The Mac start the action with the chip lead, but after taking down a pot worth more than 17 million chips from BOKINHA, that lead reached greater heights.
Stu-Shami decided to get involved with rizih, and the two saw a flop of 2♥6♦K♠. Stu-Shami bet, and rizih check-raised all-in. Stu-Shami called for his tournament life with K♦T♥ and top pair, and rizih showed 7♦7♥. The Q♦ on the turn looked good for a double-up, but the 7♠ hit on the river to give rizih the set. Stu-Shami exited in ninth place with $9,041.76.
It wasn't long before short-stacked lllothup pushed all-in with A♦Q♦, but On The Mac called with K♣K♠ from the big blind. The board of 8♦4♠8♣2♠K♥ only gave On The Mac a full house and eliminated lllothup in eighth place with $14,490.00.
On the very next hand, Flkyboys007 made the all-in move with 127,661 chips and T♥9♦, but On The Mac called with a dominating J♣T♠. Nothing on the board of 4♦5♠A♥8♥K♣ changed anything, and Flyboys007 left in seventh place with $25,502.40.
Only a few hands later, pellompogos made a move with K♣J♥, and BOKINHA called with 9♦9♥. The flop of 9♣2♣T♠ gave BOKINHA the set of nines, and the 5♥ turn and 6♦ river finished the hand, leaving pellompogos out in sixth place with $37,094.40.
Marcley1969 was the next to risk it all. The preflop all-in was made with K♥Q♥, and BOKINHA was there to call with 4♦2♠. The hand known to some in poker as the "Grump" only improved to trips on the 6♦T♦2♦2♥J♥ board. Marcley1969 was eliminated in fifth place with $48,686.40.
Can anyone stop On The Mac?
Rizih was on the rise, courtesy of a double through On The Mac. Speaking of On The Mac, the chip lead was briefly lost to BOKINHA via a 5.6 million-chip pot that went to the latter, though On The Mac came back to win a 6 million-chip pot to regain that lead.
WuzThat was on the short stack and doubled through rizih to stay alive, but the two tangled again. The two players, along with BOKINHA, went to see a 8♣K♣9♥ flop, at which point WuzThat moved all-in. Both players called, and the 7♥ on the turn prompted rizih to move all-in and BOKINHA to fold out of the way. Rizih showed J♣T♣ for the turned straight, and WuzThat was in trouble with T♠9♠. The K♦ on the turn changed nothing, and WuzThat was out in fourth place with $65,089.08.
Rizih was then at the top of the leaderboard, but the stay was limited, as a hand between rizih and On The Mac worth more than 30 million chips was taken down by On The Mac. Rizih was in a bit of trouble but doubled through BOKINHA to stay in action.
That left BOKINHA on the short stack, and the all-in move was made with K♣7♣. On The Mac easily called with K♦K♠, though, and that pair only improved to two pair on the 8♥9♠3♦4♠4♥ board. BIKONHA was eliminated in third place with $93,895.20.
Rizih tries to overthrow On The Mac
The final two players began their battle with these counts:
Seat 6: On The Mac (42,653,797 in chips)
Seat 8: rizih (15,306,203 in chips)
Any time rizih pushed, On The Mac pushed back. Rizih was never able to gain much ground and finally decided to take a chance. On The Mac came into the hand with a raise, and rizih's reraise only prompted On The Mac to push all-in. Rizih called for 17,484,278 with K♠J♥, and On the Mac showed 6♦6♠ for the race situation. The flop of Q♥9♣5♥ brought rizih the straight draw, but the 4♠ on the turn didn't help matters. The Q♦ on the river gave On The Mac two pair, and rizih of Germany was out in second place with $133,308.00.
Australia's On The Mac became the latest Sunday Million champion and took home $179,678.88 for the victory. Congrats!
