Perseverance pays for p3rc4, wins $200K and Sunday Million title
Remember the Sunday Million? It is the largest weekly online poker tournament in the world, bringing its $1 million guarantee to the masses each and every Sunday. Errr, except it was conspicuously missing from the lineup in September. The excuse was a good one, though, as our annual WCOOP series awarded more than $47 million in prize money over the course of 62 tournaments.
And we're back! The break in the Sunday Million festivities allowed players to invest in the once-a-year series, but the regular schedule returned today. Despite many players involved in live events at the star-studded EPT London, many others still found their way to the virtual tables. All is right with the world, some might say.
The numbers for the Sunday Million this week were impressive, as usual:
Prize pool: $1,318,600.00
Paid players: 990
There were several players in the field proudly displaying the PokerStars logo, and the first to make it into the money and cash out was new Team PokerStars Pro Vivian Im (pictured here), who finished in 690th place.
Team Pro Nuno Coelho cashed out in 395th place, and action moved toward the payouts of thousands of dollars. As the tenth hour of play got underway, three tables decreased to two, and the final table bubble neared.
Hand-for-hand came quickly when Assassinato was eliminated in 11th place, and it took only a few minutes for Steeno69 to move all-in with A♠Q♦. X_cimpo_x called from the big blind with J♥T♥ and found a ten on the 6♣6♠T♦ flop. The 8♦ and 3♠ ended the hand and eliminated Steeno69 in tenth place with $7,384.16.
I7AXA leads at the start of final table action
In the last minutes of Level 35, with blinds at 80,000/160,000 and a 16,000 ante, the final table started with these chip counts:
Seat 1: x_cimpo_x (4,092,606 in chips)
Seat 2: I7AXA (14,394,949 in chips)
Seat 3: GlitchHopper (4,948,880 in chips)
Seat 4: CrAcky_Marty (5,086,403 in chips)
Seat 5: treezer (6,190,431 in chips)
Seat 6: huge.fishh (7,842,581 in chips)
Seat 7: lpaper (3,484,312 in chips)
Seat 8: el_klonkador (9,009,276 in chips)
Seat 9: p3rc4 (10,880,562 in chips)
In the first thirty minutes of play, the competitors seemed to be testing each other and getting a feel for strategy. The biggest event of that first half hour was x_cimpo_x doubling through huge.fishh.
Lpaper was feeling the need to move and did so with A♣8♠, and p3rc4 called with K♠Q♦. The flop of 7♦6♣Q♠ gave p3rc4 the queens and the better hand, and the 2♠ turn and 3♥ river allowed it to stay. The first player to leave the table was lpaper, who took home $10,219.15 for ninth place.
Just after the first five-minute break of the final table, treezer decided to push all-in from the small blind. Original raiser I7AXA called with T♥7♥, which was an underdog to the A♥J♣ of treezer. The flop of Q♠3♣9♣ changed nothing, but the 7♠ on the turn gave I7AXA the only pair. The 5♠ on the river then eliminated treezer in eighth place with $15,823.20.
GlitchHopper leaps into new territory
GlitchHopper was tired of being on the shorter end of the chip counts and made this move, which resulted in a successful double-up through chip leader I7AXA:
And on the very next hand, when huge.fishh raised all-in from early position, GlitchHopper was there with the call from the small blind holding A♥4♠. Huge.fishh had the advantage with A♦Q♣, but the flop brought 9♦A♠4♦ to give GlitchHopper two pair. The T♠ and K♦ finished the hand and sent huge.fishh swimming away in seventh place with $29,009.20.
CrAcky_Marty doubled through x_cimpo_x, and the latter doubled through I7AXA. Meanwhile, GlitchHopper continued to take sizeable pots and climbed into the top spot on the leaderboard.
X_cimpo_x was the next to be at risk and did it from the big blind with 7♠7♣. Original raiser CrAcky_Marty called with K♠T♠, and the board came Q♦K♦5♦Q♥K♥, giving him the full house. That left x_cimpo_x out in sixth place with $42,195.20.
I7AXA back in charge
I7AXA then doubled through CrAcky_Marty in a 15.5 million chip pot to jump back into the chip lead. The two tangled again, and I7AXA benefited with another 13.15 million chip pot and soared above 30 million.
El_klonkador moved all-in on the next hand with K♠T♣ in the small blind, and p3rc4 called with A♦5♣ from the big blind. The 8♠3♠4♣ flop gave p3rc4 the straight draw, and the 2♠ on the turn completed it. A 3♣ hit on the river to eliminate el_klonkador in fifth place with $55,381.20.
CrAcky_Marty and I7AXA then got into a preflop raising war that resulted in CrAcky_Marty calling all-in for the remainder of his chips with A♥J♠. I7AXA showed A♣9♣ and got the help needed on the Q♣5♥A♦9♠T♥ board to make two pair. CrAcky_Marty left in fourth place with $72,523.00.
At the 11.5-hour break, the three finalists decided to pause the action to look at chip-chop numbers. They were unable to agree, however, and play resumed.
It didn't take long for GlitchHopper to move all-in for less than 10 million with A♠K♣, but I7AXA made the easy call with A♦A♣. The board came 4♦3♠T♥7♣5♥, and the aces held up to eliminate GlitchHopper in third place with $105,488.00.
Much can change in heads-up
The last two players standing started their battle with these counts:
Seat 2: I7AXA (52,713,605 in chips)
Seat 9: p3rc4 (13,216,395 in chips)
The very first hand saw p3rc4 double up:
And p3rc4 kept climbing until he took over the lead. And little more than two hours after the start of the final table, it was done. A raise and reraise led to the A♥T♠4♥ flop. A bet from I7AXA and call from p3rc4 brought the T♥ turn card, and p3rc4 then led out with a bet of 4,280,000. I7AXA responded by moving all-in for nearly 15 million, and p3rc4. I7AXA showed J♦6♥ the pair of tens on the board, but p3rc4 had T♦9♥ for trip tens. The J♣ on the river left I7AXA out in second place with $148,342.50.
P3rc4, recent winner of a WCOOP bracelet, claimed the Sunday Million title and $200,563.20 to go with it. Well done!
