Guesty001 stages stellar comeback to win April 8 Sunday Million title
Many people around the world celebrated holidays this weekend. Many of them were poker players. But no matter the family commitments, rearrangements of dinners, or lack of sleep, poker players were not going to miss out on the great opportunities that await them in the Sunday majors. Miss out on the Sunday Million? Sorry, Easter Bunny. Poker must be played.
And so they came to the virtual tables of PokerStars, took their ticket from a satellite or bought in for $215, and took a shot at the $1 million guarantee. As usual, that guarantee was blown right out of the Easter basket when the field grew to a field that was bigger than any in recent weeks. Here are the numbers for tonight's Sunday Million:
Prize pool: $1,645,000.00
Paid players: 1,170
When the money bubble burst midway through the tournament, tioalberto was the first player to cash for $329.00 in 1170th place. The only member of Team PokerStars Pro still in the field was Jose "nachobarbero" Barbero, and he eventually exited in 681st place with $444.15.
As the 10-hour mark hit, the final two tables were running and moving along rather quickly. Lasygirl lost energy and departed in 18th, followed by Ron Jovi 7, who was only livin' on a prayer anyway. (Some screen names are too good to pass up.)
With the 11th place elimination of tt-rossi86, hand-for-hand play then led to molik44 moving all-in. But huiiiiiiiiii called all-in and was at risk with A♠K♣. Molik44 showed 9♥9♠, which held up to the 3♥5♣7♠J♦8♠ board. That left huiiiiiiiiii out in tenth place with $8,800.75.
Chip leader = janfryed
Toward the end of Level 37, with blinds of 125,000/250,000 and a 25,000 ante, the final table began with these starting chip stacks:
Seat 1: Guesty001 (6,073,932 in chips)
Seat 2: tilt21sted (7,250,424 in chips)
Seat 3: janfryed (16,907,791 in chips)
Seat 4: Aftret (4,552,243 in chips)
Seat 5: lollasen (13,841,274 in chips)
Seat 6: molik44 (6,913,446 in chips)
Seat 7: 1_conor_b_1 (8,778,360 in chips)
Seat 8: QUINN520 (3,817,166 in chips)
Seat 9: CrissD6713 (14,115,364 in chips)
A few rounds into play, QUINN520 doubled through CrissD6713 with pocket aces. Play was relatively slow, but janfryed continued to lead the group of nine.
A bit later, Guesty001 moved all-in from UTG, and lollasen called. Molik44 then reraised all-in, and lollasen called again. The cards were turned up:
The board came A♣T♠9♦7♣3♥, and that ace in the door trumped the pair of kings, giving Guesty001 a double-up plus some from the main pot, while lollasen took the side pot. Molik44 left in ninth place with $12,748.75.
It took quite some time for another all-in and call, and it happened when ChrissD6712 moved all-in with A♥5♥ for less than 1.9 million chips. Lollasen made the call from the big blind with a dominating A♠K♥, and the board of 6♠3♣3♥9♣Q♣ changed nothing. CrissD6713 departed in eighth place with $18,917.50.
Lollasen took a small hit when tilt21sted doubled through. Lollasen then gotinvolved in a raised flop with QUINN520. The first three cards were 2♠3♥3♠, and QUINN520 pushed all-in. Lollasen check-called with A♦A♥, and QUINN520 showed 9♣9♠. The 4♣ on the turn and T♠ on the river completed the board and eliminated QUINN520 in seventh place with $32,900.00.
Tilt21sted doubled through 1_conor_b_1, while janfryed continued to lead the pack. Nothing else changed the makeup of the table terribly, so the final six finally decided to pause the tournament to discuss chop options.
Tough deal talks pay off
The talks took some time, as players were provided with chip-chop numbers as well as ICM numbers. Much discussion and a bit of a language barrier finally led to everyone's agreement to accept the ICM numbers and leave $20,000 to be added to the winner's prize.
Seat 1: Guesty001 (8901796 in chips) = $103,196.17
Seat 2: tilt21sted (11701696 in chips) = $115,678.97
Seat 3: janfryed (23322791 in chips) = $151,739.34
Seat 4: Aftret (12397243 in chips) = $118,484.19
Seat 5: lollasen (10407302 in chips) = $110,159.90
Seat 7: 1_conor_b_1 (15519172 in chips) = $129,874.19
On the second hand after play resumed, Guesty001 changed the face of the table by doubling through tilt21sted as shown here:
That hand left tilt21sted on a short stack, and a few hands later, tilt21sted was all-in by posting the big blind with 6♦5♦. Guesty001 was along for the ride from the small blind with A♣Q♣, which only improved on the 4♥A♥J♠2♥2♣ board. Tilt21sted was gone in sixth place with $115,678.97.
A few hands later, after an initial raise by janfryed, 1_conor_b_1 reraised all-in with K♦7♦ from the big blind. Janfryed called with A♦K♥, and the board blanked with T♣4♠2♣J♠3♦. That left 1_conor_b_1 out in fifth place with $129,874.19.
Welcome to double-up city
The all-ins were fast and furious going forward, as were the double-ups. You might want to make a chart for this. Lollasen and Aftret both doubled through janfryed, but the latter made a comeback with a double through lollasen. Lollasen then doubled back through janfryed, who doubled through Guesty001.
Lollasen tried again, pushing all-in UTG with A♣T♦. Guesty001 was the next to act and reraised all-in to isolate, which worked. Guesty001 showed J♥J♣, and that pair only added another on the 6♣3♥2♥Q♠6♥ board. Lollasen didn't improve and had to leave in fourth place with $110,159.90.
Aftret then doubled through janfryed as replayed here:
Janfryed moved got involved with Guesty001 in the very next hand to see a flop of J♦T♦Q♦. Guesty001 bet 800,000, and janfryed called. The 6♥ on the turn prompted another bet from Guesty001, but janfryed responded with an all-in reraise holding J♠7♥ for the pair of jacks. Guesty001 called with K♦9♥ for the flopped straight, though, which held up to the J♣ on the river. Janfryed exited in third place with $151,739.34.
Heads-up for $20K
The last two players standing started their battle with these stacks:
Seat 1: Guesty001 (54147582 in chips)
Seat 4: Aftret (28102418 in chips)
Guesty001 held the chip lead throughout the duration of the match, with Aftret making only small progress before being pushed back down again. Finally, Aftret pushed all-in for 12,640,168 chips with 8♦7♣, and Guesty001 was able to call with A♥4♠. The board blanked when it showed K♦6♠3♦Q♠9♣, and Aftret had to settle for second place and $118,484.43.
Guesty001 battled back from a short stack and won the Sunday Million, along with $123,196.17 in cash. Congrats!
