Sunday Million: angrymoron cheers up with $166k score

Sunday Million logo NEW.PNG"Angrymoron" could describe any of us from time to time as we play this game. Missing a value bet, making a bad call, believing the guy across the table when he goads you into calling against the nuts. We're all angry morons when we're at our worst at the tables. Tonight, however, our hero from Belarus performed more like the antonym of his name, cleverly weaving through a hefty field to emerge as this week's Sunday Million champion. And it's a pretty sure thing that the $166,000 score turned that frown upside-down in a hurry.

This Sunday saw 5,776 players take their shot at the Million, creating a $1,114,200 prize pool. 855 players earned a share of it with first place set to earn over $179,000. A dozen Red Spades were in the field today, including Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome, Shane "Shaniac" Schleger, and Kevin "WizardOfAhhs" Thurman and Team Pros Maxim Lykov, Henrique Pinho, and Toni Judet. The only one of them to cash, though, was Brazil's Diego "vgreen22" Brunelli, who finished in 331st place.

With the blinds up to 100,000/200,000 and only 2.3 million remaining, Engelage took a stand with pocket sevens, three-bet shoving over LuckyDave83's opening min-raise. LuckyDave83 looked him up with A♠7♣ and hit an ace on the flop, sending Engelage to the rail on the final table bubble.

Final table chip counts:

Seat 1: RB79s (1,701,246 in chips)
Seat 2: XPDCX (2,548,807 in chips)
Seat 3: padrak77 (5,231,729 in chips)
Seat 4: angrymoron (11,624,464 in chips)
Seat 5: buytenwegh (7,417,431 in chips)
Seat 6: Lenballs1014 (7,102,503 in chips)
Seat 7: LuckyDave83 (12,392,719 in chips)
Seat 8: nailuj90 (4,619,323 in chips)
Seat 9: leggieblufs1 (5,121,778 in chips)

RB79s's eight remaining big blinds went in the middle on hand #6, Lenballs1014 opening for 400,000 and RB79s shoving for 1.58 million with K♣J♣. Lenballs1014 turned up A♦Q♦ and paired his queen on the flop to send RB79s home in ninth place.

XPDCX picked up enough blinds and antes to survive a few more orbits, but couldn't gain any traction. Following LuckyDave83's min-raise to 500,000, XPDCX shoved his last 2 million with K♠2♠. LuckyDave83 called with Q♦J♥ and was behind until the river, when the Q♣ spiked to make him second pair. XPDCX exited in eighth place, earning $14,440.

Nailuj90 could have easily been the next player to bust, but he picked up the right hand at the right time, three-bet shoving with A♣K♠ and earning a call from LuckyDave83 with A♦3♣ to double up to 6.8 million. It put only a small, temporary dent in LuckyDave83's tournament-leading stack; he got it all back only three hands later. Padrak77 opened for 625,000 at 125k/250k blinds, LuckyDave83 flat-called on the button and leggiebluf1 came along from the big blind. The action checked to LuckyDave83 on the J♥6♥3♣ flop. He led out for 1.25 million, leggieblufs1 shoved for 3 million total and padrak77 ducked out of the way. LuckyDave83 called, turning over J♦8♠ for top pair, leggieflufs1 holding a flush draw with T♥8♥. He couldn't find another heart, thought, LuckyDave83 rivering trip jacks to end leggieblufs1's run in seventh place with a $25,414.40 score.

LuckyDave83 continued to roll, buytenwegh his next victim when LuckyDave83 turned a jack-high straight against his top pair:

With the field down to five, LuckyDave83 was firmly in control with 28.5 million in chips, angrymoron his closest competitor holding 13.5 million. Padrak77 was the short stack with 3.7 million and the blinds up to 150k/300k. It took a few orbits for padrak77 to find a hand to go with, his stack falling to 2.35 million before he open-shoved with A♦7♠. Unfortunately, he ran headlong into Lenballs1014's pocket tens, and couldn't improve on the jack-high board. For his fifth-place finish, padrak77 earned $48,518.40.

Padrak77's departurne left nailuj90 on the short stack, but once again, he managed to double up just as things were looking bleak. Nailuj90 three-bet shoved his remaining 3.92 million with A♥5♠. Lenballs1014 called with a dominating A♣T♠, but nailuj90 caught a boffo Q♥5♥4♥ flop to make middle pair and the nut flush draw. The 5♣ on the turn sealed it up and nailuj90 doubled to 8.2 million with trip fives.

At this point, the action was paused to discuss a deal. Final table hostess Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome assisted the players in calculating ICM numbers, but they could not come to an agreement on a four-way deal. Action resumed and within only a few hands, angrymoron scored a key KO, his A♠J♣ holding up against Lenballs1014's K♦Q♦ in a preflop all-in. Lenballs1014 hit the rail in fourth place, collecting $64,864.48 while angrymoron took a slight chip lead on LuckyDave83 with 26.2 million to his 25.7 million. Nailuj90 held the balance, a scant 5.8 million with the blinds up to 250k/500k.

Angrymoron widened the gap between himself and LuckyDave83 on a cooler of a hand, both players rivering trip queens. Angrymoron's Q♠J♣ however, outkicked LuckyDave83's Q♣T♥, earning him the 13.5 million pot. Three hands later, nailuj90 doubled through LuckyDave83, his A♣3♦ making a seven-high straight against K♠J♥ to bring his chip count up to 13.1 million. Once again, they agreed to pause the action and run numbers, and once again they could not come to a deal, chip leader angrymoron wanting a larger share than his opponents were willing to give him.

Cards went back in the air and four hands after action resumed, nailuj90 made a stand with K♦T♠, three-bet shoving for 10.4 million. LuckyDave83 snap-called with A♣K♠. Nailuj90 found no help on the 6♦6♥3♣6♠J♥ board and was eliminated in third place, taking home $93,571.20.

Heads-up chip counts:

Seat 4: angrymoron (29,701,462 in chips)
Seat 7: LuckyDave83 (28,058,538 in chips)

After a few swaps of the blinds, angrymoron and LuckyDave83 paused the action for yet another round of deal discussions. The third time was the charm and they quickly agreed to a near-even split of the remaining prize pool, leaving $20,000 in play for the winner.

With the help of a lucky river card, angrymoron quickly took control of the heads-up match. He opened for a min-raise to 1,000,000 with Q♠3♥ and LuckyDave83 called from the big blind. LuckyDave83 check-called 1,234,567 on the Q♣J♠4♣ flop and another 1,987,654 when the 2♦ hit the turn. The river was the Q♦ and LuckyDave83 checked a third time. angrymoron bet 5,678,909 and LuckyDave83 looked him up, only to be shown trip queens. LuckyDave83 fell to 18.4 million in chips while angrymoron moved to to 39.3 million.

Eight hands later, it was all over. Everything went in the middle pre-flop, LuckyDave83 making the fifth and final raise with K♣T♥. Angrymoron called with A♣Q♠, and LuckyDave83 couldn't catch up:

Congratulations to angrymoron, who is hopefully feeling a bit more joyful with an extra $166,076.63 in his pocket. For his runner-up finish, LuckyDave83 earned $145,830.25.
