Sunday Million: franc1978685 finishes first, scores $124k in six-way chop
While thousands of players spent their Sunday chasing down a dream in the WSOP Main Event, thousands more set their sights on spinning a $215 buy-in into a six-figure score from the comfort of their own homes. Although the Red Spade contingent in this week's Sunday Million was noticeably light, the field topped out at 5,705 players and the prize pool at $1,141,000. 855 players earned a share of it, with $176,855.00 set aside for first place. Johnny Lodden, Maxim Lykov, Martin Hruby, Bryan Huang, Joao Nunes, Stavros Kalfas flew the flag for Team Pro while Kevin "WizardOfAhhs" Thurman and Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome repped Team Online. Unfortunately, none of them survived past the money bubble.
With the field down to ten, KongFuPandaG was crippled after running his 5♥5♠ into Kimromy's J♣J♠. Left with little more than one big blind, the last of his chips went in the middle two hands later, but excellence flopped aces up with A♠6♣ to send KongFuPanda to the rail on the final table bubble.
Final table chip counts:
Seat 1: soldier_1912 (5,582,871 in chips)
Seat 2: themightyD.R (8,602,418 in chips)
Seat 3: excellence (6,379,598 in chips)
Seat 4: franc1978685 (8,529,730 in chips)
Seat 5: Nikolo5 (3,609,693 in chips)
Seat 6: pokerstefi (2,626,452 in chips)
Seat 7: ActionJunk (5,625,681 in chips)
Seat 8: Kimromy (5,955,104 in chips)
Seat 9: conjunk (10,138,453 in chips)
While short stack Nikolo5 was fortunate to score an early double-up when his pocket tens holding against conjunk's pocket fives, pokerstefi didn't have such luck. No doubt thrilled to pick up pocket queens, pokerstefi three-bet shoved for 2.4 million behind excellence's 500,000 opening min-raise. Excellence called with A♠K♥ and hit a king on the flop to win the race, sending pokerstefi home in 9th place.
Excellence, however, soon found himself in trouble after giving away a good chunk of his stack to the chip leader, conjunk's top pair top kicker holding up at showdown on a coordinated board. Down to 3.1 million with the blinds up to 150,000/300,000, excellence opened 9♠9♥ for a min-raise. Franc1978685 flat-called, and conjunk three-bet to 3.9 million to isolate. Excellence called all-in and franc1978685 got out of the way. Conjunk had the goods and his A♦A♠ held up to eliminate excellence in eighth place.
Closing in on 16 million in chips, conjunk put nearly half his stack at risk when he called soldier_1912's $7 million shove. Soldier_1912's 4♣4♥ lost the race to A♣K♥ when a king hit the flop and soldier_1912 was dismissed in seventh place, earning $25,102.00 C
Talk of a deal broke out, but before everyone could agree to pause the action, franc1978685 cooled off conjunk's massive heater. After flopping second pair and seeing the board pair the turn, franc1978685 called conjunk's river bluff to take down the 11.2 million pot:
No sooner did Sunday Million host Lee Jones present the remaining players with ICM chop numbers did the word "agree" fly through the chat box six times, leaving $20,000 on the table for the winner. When action resumed, ActionJunk was quick to get his last 4.8 million in the middle with A♦7♣, only to run into franc1978685's A♣K♥. ActionJunk's share of the deal gave him $76,305.24 for his sixth-place finish.
The dominating hand may have held up there for franc1978685, but on the next deal, he called Nikolo5's three-bet shove only to find his A♦T♦ up against A♠K♣. Franc1978685 pulled out a win when the flop fell A♣Q♠T♣, his two pair holding up to end Nikolo5's run in fifth place. Nikolo5 picked up $77,392.87 for his efforts.
Nikolo5's avatar had just disappeared when Kimromy moved in for his last 1.8 million from under-the-gun. Both conjunk and franc1978685 called. Franc1978685 check-called 2.8 million on the K♠K♦3♥ flop and another 4.8 million when the 9♣ hit the turn. He checked a third time when the T♠ fell on the river, but couldn't withstand another bet. Conjunk turned up A♣J♥ and it was good against Kimromy's A♥5♣. Kimromy was out in fourth, scoring $56,841.58 from the six-way deal.
Although themightyD.R doubled up through conjunk, his pocket nines holding against A♠5♣ in an 11 million pot, those chips were in the middle again only four hands later. Conjunk made a standard shove from the small blind with A♥T♦ and themightyD.R called with A♠8♦. Conjunk's ten kicker played and themightyD.R ended his run in third place, earning $89,180.88.
Heads-up chip counts:
Seat 4: franc1978685 (22,172,089 in chips)
Seat 9: conjunk (34,877,911 in chips)
Franc1978685 quickly flipped the chip counts. After flopping top pair with K♥J♠, franc1978685 turned trips and rivered quad jacks, extracting three streets of value from conjunk. Conjunk came back to even the chip counts, but his rush was short-lived. On an ace-high flop, conjunk shoved with middle pair and franc1978685 beat him into the pot with top pair, top kicker:
Conjunk was left with under a million in chips and they went in the middle two hands later. However, his 9♣6♥ fell to franc1978685's 3♥8♥ when a three hit the flop.
Congratulations to franc1978685 on the Sunday Million title and a $124,183.64 score. Although conjunk ended up with the silver medal this time, he picked up the largest share of the prize pool at $124,547.94 thanks to the six-way deal.
