Sunday Million: ShipTheFliip shakes the monkey off his back, scores $182k

Sunday Million logo NEW.PNGShipTheFliip no doubt felt a sense of deja vu as he hit the final table of this week's Sunday Million. He'd been here before and not too long ago, finishing third for over $111,000 back in November. ShipTheFlipp didn't close it out that night and was looking to change that today, while his heads-up opponent BAGBAGBAGBAG hoped to add a Sunday Million title to his C.V., having won the Sunday Warm-Up for more than 91k this past January. Although his opponents were eager to make a deal, ShipTheFlipp stuck to his guns and came away with the win, the title, and more than $182,000.

5,892 Sunday grinders bought into the Million, creating a $1,178,400 prize pool. 855 players earned a share of it with first place set to earn $182,654.79. Repping the Red Spades were Maxim Lykov, Jude Ainsworth, Henrique Pinho, Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome, Andre Coimbra, Shane "shaniac" Schleger, Kevin "WizardOfAhhs" Thurman, and Johnny Lodden. The only one to make the money, however was Team Pro Martin Hruby, whose 813th-place finish was good for a min-cash.

Blinds were up to 100,000/200,000 with ten players remaining. Short stack bustafc open-shoved for his last 1.36 million from UTG and got a call from #1StefanLiv with A♣7♦. Bustafc's K♦T♦ did not improve, and his exit sent us to the final table.

Final table chip counts:

Seat 6: pastierik (2,872,326 in chips)
Seat 7: #1StefanLiv (12,383,233 in chips)

Seat 9: absolute6 (3,827,118 in chips)

Short stacks wither

Maimonidess1 scored an early double-up when he four-bet shoved with pocket queens and #1StefanLiv called with A♣Q♥]. Shortly thereafter, absolute6 picked up 4♦4♣ and three-bet shoved for ten big blinds only to run into dcdilton's K♠K♥. Absolute6 flopped a gutshot straight draw but couldn't fill it and hit the rail in ninth place.

Short-stacked pastierik no doubt had to be thrilled to pick up pocket queens, get a caller, and hit a 7♦6♥2♦ flop. He led out for 1.2 million and Timorm1 called. The 9♠ on the turn appeared harmless enough and he fired another 1.5 milllion, only to have Timorm1 shove for 5.6 million. Pastierik called, only to watch Timorm1 turn up A♦A♣. Only a queen could save pastierik but the 4♠ fell instead and he exited in eighth place, earning $14,730.00

Down to 1.1 million with the blinds up to 150,000/300,000, kekenida picked up pocket kings at the perfect time and three-bet shoved over ShipTheFliip's opening raise. ShipTheFliip called with A♥T♣ and a jack-high board ensured kekenida's survival. The stay of execution, however, was all-too-brief, kekenida's A♦7♥ falling to #1StefanLiv's A♣T♦ a few orbits later. For seventh place, kekenida collected $25,924.80.

ShipTheFliip takes control

ShipTheFliip took over the chip lead with consecutive double-ups through Timorm1. First, ShipTheFliip's A♥Q♥ flopped an ace against Timorm1's 8♦8♣ to double his stack to 11 million, and a few minutes later, he flopped the nut straight against Timorm1's flush draw:

Timorm1 was left with 2.2 million and hit a miracle river card to double up on the next hand, his J♣9♣ hitting trip nines against Maimonidess1's A♥6♣. However, it was Maimonidess1 that would fall first, after three-bet shoving A♦J♥ into #1StefanLiv's A♣K♦. A king hit the flop and Maimonidess1 was out in sixth place, banking $37,708.80.

Dcdilton and Timorm1 tried to gauge interest in a potential deal, but chip leader ShipTheFliip wasn't keen on the idea.

"I enjoy playin," ShipTheFliip wrote.

Timorm1 instead had to hope for a double-up and moved his remaining 4.8 million in from the button with Q♣J♥. ShipTheFliip called with A♠8♥ and the ace-high held up to eliminate Timorm1 in fifth place.

dcdilton dodges bullets before busting in 3rd

Dcdilton staved off elimination, doubling to 7.8 million with A♣Q♣ against #1StefanLiv's K♣Q♠. #1StefanLiv lost even more ground when he lost a coinflip to BAGBAGBAGBAG, his K♦Q♣ failing to improve against 6♣6♠. Down to less than 2 million, ShipTheFliip finished off the Swede, his Q♠8♠ improving to two pair against #1StefanLiv's A♦J♣. For his fourth-place finish, #1StefanLiv took home $66,167.16.

Dcdilton once again dodged a bullet, his K♦Q♦ flopping top two pair against BAGBAGBAGBAG's A♦4♦. For the better part of two levels, small-pot poker was the order of the day, ShipTheFliip's stack hovering around 30 million while BAGBAGBAGBAG and dcdilton hovered between 11 and 15 million apiece. BAGBAGBAGBAG finally got a bit of traction, moving up to 20.7 million when ShipTheFliip folded the river in a 10.5 million pot. Dcdilton had blinded down to 7.5 million, and put the last of his chips in with 7♣7♠ against ShipTheFliip's A♠T♦. An ace hit the flop and dcdilton hit the rail in third place, earning $95,450.40 for his day on the felt.

Heads-up chip counts:

Seat 1: ShipTheFliip (42,328,052 in chips)
Seat 4: BAGBAGBAGBAG (16,591,948 in chips)

It took all of eleven hands to settle this match. ShipTheFliip slyly limped the button with 9♣9♠, inducing a shove from BAGBAGBAGBAG with A♥3♣. ShipTheFliip flopped a set and that was all she wrote:

Congratulations to ShipTheFliip on shipping his first Sunday Million title and $182,654.79. For his runner-up finish, BAGBAGBAGBAG collected $135,516.00.
