Sunday Million: jony_lv goes wire-to-wire, wins $180k

Get chiplead, check. Keep chiplead, check. Pick up kings, queens, and jacks in key situations? Check. Come back from 2 to 1 chip defect in only four hands to win? Check. It was undoubtedly a long road to get there, but tonight jony_lv made quick work of the Sunday Million final table, earning a $180k payday while making it all look oh so easy.

7,090 players turned up for this week's Million, the prize pool topping out at $1,418,000. 1,080 places were paid with first place set to earn $212,700. Among the 20 Red Spades in the field were Humberto Brenes, Johnny Lodden, Andre Akkari, Jonathan Duhamel, Lex Veldhuis and Joe Cada. Four finished in the money: Christophe De Meulder (897th), Marcel Luske (587th), Richard Toth (348th), and Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen (251st).

Blinds were up to 150,000/300,000 with ten players remaining. With less than 10 BB left, dealgoe5 made a no-brainer button shove with A♥Q♣ only to run straight into mizzB111's Q♦Q♥ in the small blind. The queens held up and dealgoe5 was eliminated, sending the remaining nine to the final table.

From nine to six in eight minutes

Henrikx didn't waste any time getting his last 13 BB in with A♣K♦, three-bet shoving for 3.8 million from middle position after Monsthand opened for 600,000 from UTG. Monsthand turned up 8♣8♠ and won the race, the board running out J♦T♦2♥2♦3♠ to end henrikx's run in ninth place ($10,989.50).

Barely three minutes went by before a raising war ignited between sick_rådi and lillstubben. All the money went in preflop, lillstubben calling sick_rådi's four-bet shove with T♦T♣. Sick_rådi had the goods with A♣A♥ and rivered a set for good measure, sending lillstubben to the rail in eighth place ($17,016.00).

Less than an orbit later, the action folded to GAN 029 on the button. He moved all-in for 2.4 million with A♠3♠ only to run into jony_lv's pocket jacks in the small blind. The queen-high board didn't improve GAN 029's hand and he took seventh place, earning $30,487.00.

sick_rådi rivers Broadway to bust MizzB111

Although he wasn't the shortest stack remaining, szwindel was the next to make a move. With the action folded to him on the button, swindle shoved for 4.2 million with T♥8♦ and mizzB111 reshoved from the small blind with pocket sevens. The sevens held on the A♦5♥2♦ flop, but the turn brought the 8♠, pairing up szwindel. The river was the J♦ and szwindel doubled to 9 million while mizzB111 was left with only five big blinds. MizzB111 committed his last 2 million on the next hand with A♠J♣ and although he flopped an ace and turned aces and jacks, sick_rådi hit a ten on the river to make Broadway with K♥Q♣. MizzB111 hit the rail in sixth place, banking $43,958 for his efforts.

Flamboyantz runs into kings

Two hands later, sick_rådi opened for a min-raise to 1,000,000, short stack Flamboyantz moved all-in for 1.57 million from the small blind, and jony_lv made a cold four-bet to 3.38 million. Sick_rådi gave up his hand and jony_lv revealed K♠K♣. Flamboyantz's A♣8♦ was in a world of trouble and although he paired eights on the flop, he didn't improve any further. The shortest stack to start the final table, Flamboyantz finished in fifth place, earning $58,138.00.

sick_rådi busts szwindel

At this point, Monsthand was keen on making a deal, but szwindel wasn't having it. Play continued on and before long, szwindel four-bet shoved preflop and sick_rådi called, his A♥J♣ up against pocket kings. Szwindel's cowboys held up and he doubled to 13.8 million.

Moments later, szwindel opened for 1 million and sick_rådi called on the button. Szwindel check-raised all-in on the 8♥5♠4♥ flop, his bottom two pair with 4♣5♣ up against sick_rådi's A♥4♠. However, sick_rådi proved true to his name, catching running hearts to make an ace-high flush. Szwindel was suddenly on the rail in fourth place, collecting $75,154.

We have a deal!

With the deal's lone dissenter out of the way, the final three agreed to pause the action and run numbers for a chip count chop. Here's how they stacked up at the time.

sick_rådi - 34,653,056
jony_lv - 25,839,008
Monsthand - 10,407,936

After making some small adjustments to jony_lv's share, all three agreed to the deal. With $20,000 still up for grabs for the winner, cards went back in the air.

Jony_lv moved up to 35 million after snagging an 11 million pot from sick_rådi, but the Swede rebounded only three hands later, flopping two pair with A♣5♣ vs. jony_lv's unimproved Q♦J♦:

Sick_rådi moved into the chip lead with 38.6 million and on the very next deal he opened for 1.2 million from the small blind. Monsthand three-bet shoved for his remaining 8.93 million and sick_rådi called, tabling A♣T♣. Monsthand's Q♣4♣ made two pair on the K♠Q♠4♠ flop, but sick_rådi rivered a jack to make Broadway, eliminating Monsthand in third place ($130,396.94)

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 4: sick_rådi (47,712,095 in chips)
Seat 9: jony_lv (23,187,905 in chips)

It took all of four hands to decide this heads-up match. On Hand #2, jony_lv picked up Q♠Q♣ just as sick_rådi decided to run a bluff. Jony_lv opened for 1.2 million, sick_rådi three-bet to 3 million with T♣6♦ and jony_lv came back over the top for 6.47 million. Still believing he could move jony_lv off his hand, sick_rådi shoved for 47.6 million and jony_lv snap-called. Sick_rådi flopped a six but didn't improve any further, jony_lv taking down the 46.3 million pot with his queens.

With the chip counts reversed from where they started, jony_lv managed to close out the match only two hands later. Again, all the money went in preflop, jony_lv's A♦6♥ up against sick_rådi's Q♣T♦. Jony_lv flopped an ace and with no gutshot Broadway cards appearing on the turn or river, he locked up his first Sunday Million title.

Congratulations to jony_lv on his Sunday Million win! He banked $180,020.36 while runner-up sick_radi earned $172,227.36.
