Sunday Million: Brazil's Bernardo "bedias" Dias banks $233k

Bernardo "bedias" Dias has a list of online MTT victories as long as your arm. With over $1.6 million in cashes on PokerStars, he finished third in the 2013 SCOOP's $2,100 PLO event and made a Sunday Million final table once before, taking sixth place back in October 2009. We've even seen him find success in the live arena, finishing seventh at the LAPT Punta del Este in Season 3. Tonight, Dias arrived at the final table third in chips and after busting eighth-place finisher wasylisa, he laid relatively low until play turned four-handed. Dias nearly had his stack decimated when he got most of his chips in the middle with a dominated ace-ten, but he flopped his kicker and turned trips to survive. Bedias went on to eliminate onetime chip leader MarkBang in third and finished off this final table with a brutally quick heads-up match to win $233,674.32 and his first Sunday Million title.

Bernardo "bedias" Dias at the final table of the 2010 LAPT Punta Del Este

This week's Sunday Million drew 7,789 players, the prize pool reaching $1,557,800.00. 1,170 places were paid with $233,674.32 going to first place. A baker's dozen of Red Spades jumped into this field, among them Lex Veldhuis, Nacho Barbero, Maxim Lykov, and Vivian Im. Three finished in the money: Liv Boeree (1,118th), Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara (1,067th), and Joe Cada (336th).

Blinds were 150,000/300,000 with ten players remaining. Ipvc had 180,000 of his remaining 537,480 committed in the ante and the small blind when bedias opened for a min-raise to 600,000 on the button. Ipvc called all-in, his A♠K♥ racing with T♣T♠. Bedias hit middle set on the J♠T♦4♥ flop and although ipvc picked up a gutshot straight draw on the K♠ turn, the river blanked with the 5♣ and sent him to the rail on the final table bubble.

marscekan out in ninth, wasylisa takes eighth

On the first hand of the final table, MarkBang doubled through marscekan when his Q♥Q♦ held up vs. A♥J♥. Marscekan was left with only 1.6 million in chips, but tripled to 4.4 million five hands later when his A♠T♦ made two pair on a T♥9♣6♣K♠A♣ board.

MarkBang gained even more ground hen he called TuckYouIn's small blind min-raise with Q♥8♣ in the big blind. MarkBang made trips on the Q♠Q♣3♠ flop and smooth-called TuckYouIn's 825,670 continuation bet. TuckYouIn slowed down and checked the J♥ turn, MarkBang bet 1.2 million and TuckYouIn called. TuckYouIn check-called another 3.2 million in the river and MarkBang raked in the 12.4 million pot with queens full.

Marscekan was up to 5.6 million when he picked up A♦T♠ and three-bet shoved from the big blind. Opening raiser kurb1234 called, turning up a dominating A♥Q♠. Kurb1234's hand held up on the nine-high rainbow board and marscekan became the final table's first casualty, departing with $12,072.95 for ninth place.

Three hands later, short stack wasylisa open-shoved for 3.3 million from UTG+1 and bedias reshoved for 11.5 million from the cutoff. Bedias's A♣K♣ held up against A♦J♥ and eliminated wasylisa in eighth place ($17,914.70).

MarkBang busts GallsBalls

GallsBalls was down to only five big blinds when he shoved for 2.5 million from the button and RichieRichZH called from the small blind. GallsBalls's pocket tens won the race against A♦J♦ and he doubled to 5.97 million.

A few orbits later, it was RudiTurbo's turn to double. All-in for 2.34 million with Q♥7♣ against TuckYouIn's A♠9♥, RudiTurbo missed the flop but turned a pair of queens to move up to 5.3 million, while TuckYouIn fell to 4.2 million.

With the blinds up to 300,000/600,000, MarkBang opened for 1.2 million and GallsBalls shoved for 4.8 million from middle position. MarkBang called, his 9♥9♦ racing against A♦K♣. MarkBang flopped nines full of tens and had GallsBalls drawing dead by the turn, the board running out T♦T♥9♣7♦J♠. For his seventh-place finish, GallsBalls picked up $31,156.00.

TuckYouIn goes out in sixth

On the next deal, the action folded to TuckYouIn and he moved all-in for 2.2 million from the small blind. MarkBang called from the big, his 7♠7♦ leading TuckYouIn's J♥4♠. Although a jack hit the flop, a seven came with it and MarkBank took down the pot with a set of sevens, ending TuckYouIn's run in sixth place ($46,734.00).

kurb1234 KOed in fifth

Two orbits later, MarkBang min-raised to 1.2 million from UTG and kurb1234 called from the big blind. Kurb1234 checked the Q♦J♠9♣ flop over to markBang, who bet 1.2 million. Kurb1234 raised to 3 million and MarkBang called. The turn came the 5♦ and kurb1234 led out for 3.6 million. MarkBang looked him up and they went to the river, which fell the 3♦. Kurb1234 shoved for 5.26 million and MarkBang called, revealing K♥J♣ for second pair. Kurb1234 was on a stone bluff with K♣8♠ and went out in fifth place, collecting $62,312.

RichieRichZH goes broke in fourth

The blinds rose to 400,000/800,000 and RichieRichZH three-bet shoved for 8.23 million over bedias's 1.6 million min-raise. Bedias called off almost half his remaining chips only to discover his A♥T♦ was dominated by RichieRichZH's A♠Q♣. RichieRichZH was saved by the T♥6♥2♥ flop, making him top pair and the nut flush draw. The 2♦ turn was a blank and bedias improved to trips on the river, sending RichieRichZH to the rail in fourth place ($78,513.12).

No deal

Two hands after RichieRichZH's elimination, the final three agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here's a look at how they stacked up at the time:

MarkBang (42,552,883)
bedias (23,447,695)
RudiTurbo (11,889,422)

Final table host "GodlikeRoy" Bhasin provided the players with ICM numbers as requested, but MarkBang wouldn't deal for anything less than a $200k share... about $12k less than the deal offered him. RudiTurbo and bedias were quick to put the kibosh on that idea and with negotiations at an impasse, cards went back in the air.

bedias eliminates MarkBang in third place

Once action resumed, MarkBang opened for a min-raise to 1.6 million on the button and bedias looked down at K♠K♦. He three-bet to 4,100,780, MarkBang shoved for 43.7 million and bedias snap-called all-in for 15.3 million. Bedias's kings held up against MarkBang's A♥J♣ and he took the chip lead with 39.4 million.

With the blinds up to 500,000/1,000,000, bedias opened 3♣3♥ for 2 million and MarkBang shoved for 15.2 million from the small blind. Bedias called, his threes racing with A♦Q♥. The ten-high board gave bedias the win and eliminated MarkBang in third place, good for a $116,835.00 score.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 3: bedias (64,060,798 in chips)
Seat 9: RudiTurbo (13,829,202 in chips)

It only took five swaps of the blinds before bedias finished off RudiTurbo. Dealt A♥J♦ on the button, bedias limped in, then called RudiTurbo's 13.6 million shove. RudiTurbo's Q♥8♦ did not improve and bedias locked up his first Sunday Million title:

Congratulations to Brazil's Bernardo "bedias" Dias on his Sunday Million win and $233.674.32 score! For his runner-up finish RudiTurbo took home $171.358.00.
