Sunday Million: Ship it to OshriAK, tops field for $183K first prize
It was another exciting Sunday on PokerStars, highlighted again by the world's most popular weekly online tournament, the $215 buy-in Sunday Million. A field of 6,027 turned out this week, making a $1,205,400 prize pool, and after almost exactly 12 hours it was OshriAK of Israel claiming all of the chips and the top prize of $183,345.21.
The top 900 finishers got to divide the prize money, and when the bubble burst there was but one red spade in the counts, the one next to Team Online member Caio "Pessagno" Pessagno's name. The Brazilian would remain in the hunt for some time after that before finally succumbing in a hand versus GSZUCA to finish in 384th place for a cash of $470.10.
After about nine hours and 40 minutes the field had been whittled all of the way down to just 18 players with tadcka having pushed upwards to the top of the counts with more than 7.6 million while the chase pack of Semidevil333, Borussenblut, and OshirAK together hovered just under 5.9 million.
It would take almost an hour more for nine more to fall, with Glebarm (18th), Sajanas171 (17th), and olegus_71 (16th) each earning $3,375.12 for their finishes, BET4U2CALL (15th), shalevhalfa (14th), and J-Rod Fett (13th) taking away $5,062.68 apiece, and samitheman99 (12th), with samitheman99 (12th), HugoBozz888 (11th), and nkzlking (10th) each departing with $6,750.24 paydays.
With Semidevil333 the new chip leader with nearly 12.3 million, the final table was underway.
Seat 1: blakcXS (Russia) -- 3,804,948
Seat 2: Tonzera (Brazil) -- 7,623,634
Seat 3: Semidevil333 (Denmark) -- 12,286,618
Seat 4: FlopJay (Australia) -- 7,085,070
Seat 5: ChiphunterTH (Germany) -- 5,396,327
Seat 6: tadcka (Lithuania) -- 6,322,010
Seat 7: oav888 (Russia) -- 2,901,136
Seat 8: OshriAK (Israel) -- 9,614,718
Seat 9: Borussenblut (Germany) -- 5,235,539
On one of the first hands of the final table, the blinds were 100k/200k when OshriAK raised to 448,000 and got a late-postion call from blakcXS. The flop came 2♥K♣7♥, and when OshriAK bet 528,777, blakcXS raised to 1,453,527. OshriAK responded by shoving all in, and blakcXS called with the 1,863,421 behind.
blakcXS had 9♥9♦ for second pair, but OshriAK had A♦K♥ for top pair of kings, and after the A♣ turn and T♠ river, blakcXS was out in ninth.
About 10 minutes later the blinds had climbed to 125k/250k when OshriAK again raised, this time to 550,000 from early position, then Borussenblut reraise-shoved from one seat over for 2,111,539. Tonzera then flat-called the push from the next position and it folded back to OshriAK who folded as well.
It was a race, and five cards later -- 8♥A♦2♠Q♠3♣ -- Tonzera had won it, sending Borussenblut railward in eighth.
They crossed the 10-and-a-half-hour mark, then tadcka min-raised to 500,000 from the button and watched oav888 shove for 2,208136 from the small blind then OshriAK reraise-push from the big blind before folding.
oav888 had A♦Q♦ while OshriAK had 7♦7♣. The flop brought an ace, but a seven as well, coming A♠7♥4♦. The 4♣ on the turn meant oav888 wasn't completely drawing dead, but the K♠ completed the board and oav888 was done in seventh.
The blinds increased once more to 150k/300k, then a hand arose that saw Tonzera open for 600,000 from the cutoff, then Semidevil333 reraise to 1,687,895 from the button. It folded back to Tonzera who pushed all in for 8,271,673 and Semidevil333 called.
Tonzera had A♣J♦ and needed to improve to survive versus the A♠Q♠ of Semidevil333. But the board ran out 6♣T♣3♠K♠6♠, and Tonzera's Sunday Million run had ended in sixth.
Shortly after that hand Semidevil333 was back at it with a min-raise to 600,000 from the button, then ChiphunterTH reraised all in for 5,151,327 from the big blind and Semidevil333 called.
ChiphunterTH showed K♣Q♣ and had plenty of ways to outdraw Semidevil333's 4♠4♦. But the community cards came 3♥9♣A♥, then A♠, then 5♥, and ChiphunterTH was eliminated in fifth.
Just three minutes after that hand tadcka raised all in for 5,490,221 from the small blind and OshriAK instantly called from the big blind. tadcka had picked up a couple of face cards with K♣J♠, but OshriAK had woken up with A♥A♣ and after the T♠K♠7♥2♥9♠ runout tadcka had been knocked out in fourth.
The final three played on a short while, then stopped the tournament to discuss the possibility of a deal to divide most of the remaining prize money. At that point OshriAK was leading with 26,725,926, Semidevil333 was next with 16,973,934, and FlopJay third with 16,570,140.
Both "chip chop" and "ICM"-based figures were produced -- leaving $20,000 for which to play in both cases -- but terms couldn't be agreed upon and without too much to-do they were soon back at it.
It was only a few hands later that the blinds had moved up to 200k/400k, then Semidevil333 opened for 1 million even from the button. FlopJay reraised to 2 million from the small blind, OshriAK called from the big blind, and Semidevil333 called as well.
The three players were greeted by a flop with three hearts -- K♥9♥4♥ -- and FlopJay led for 2 million. OshriAK called the bet, then Semidevil333 pushed all in for 9,033,936 total. FlopJay called the push, then when OshriAK reraise-shoved the leading stack FlopJay folded, conceding the chips already committed.
Semidevil333 then showed K♠Q♦ for top pair of kings, but was all but crushed by the A♥T♥ of OshriAK for the nut flush. The 2♥ on the turn then made the 4♠ river no matter, and they were down to two.
OshriAK enjoyed a big lead to start heads-up play with 47,153,798 to FlopJay's 13,116,202.
They'd play 17 small-to-medium hands, then FlopJay would double up after picking up K♣K♥ versus OshriAK's 8♥8♠ and having the better pair hold up. FlopJay then narrowed the gap further and the pair were virtually even, then deal talk once more arose in the chat box. Eventually they paused the tourney again, but it was clear from the start of the discussion that a deal probably wasn't going to happen.
OshriAK: ill take 155 and you 145 ~
OshriAK: and we gonna play for the rest
OshriAK: i am hu player
OshriAK: i think its a good deal for you
FlopJay: were almost even in chips. why would i agree to take $10k less.
FlopJay: no thanks
OshriAK: cuz i am better
FlopJay: and modest about it
OshriAK: and we are very deep
FlopJay: and now i not interested in a deal. good luck. may the best player win.
OshriAK: gl hero
And with that, they were soon playing poker again. Before too long, FlopJay had edged ahead, taking about a 2-to-1 chip lead, but then after slipping further OshriAK would double-up with A♥2♥ versus FlopJay's Q♠T♦ to even things again.
FlopJay chipped up again, then came another preflop all-in that saw OshriAK's A♠K♣ hold against FlopJay's A♥T♥. On the very next hand OshriAK limped in for 400,000, FlopJay raised to 1.6 million, OshriAK shoved, and FlopJay called all in with the 13,041,232 left.
FlopJay had 8♠7♠ and OshriAK A♦J♥. The board rolled out 3♣2♣5♠Q♥K♦ and it was all over... OshriAK had won.
Congratulations to OshriAK who earned a cool $183K-plus for topping this week's big Sunday Million field of more than 6,000 players.
