Sunday Million: Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau captures second SM title

While Team PokerStars Sports Star Neymar Jr's charity home game played out over the PokerStars' Twitch channel Sunday afternoon and evening from Sao Paulo, three Brazilian players made the final table of this week's Sunday Million, with one of them -- Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau -- claiming the victory.

Cheveau picked up his second Sunday Million title after having won the tournament once before back in February 2014, For tonight's win he earned a cool $153,111.48 payday following a four-handed final table deal. Here's the story of Cheveau's triumph.

Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau

It took a little over five hours for a big field of 5,619 to play down to 810 players and for the money bubble to burst, at which point another player from Brazil -- RodrigoFeres -- was leading the counts.

Among those cashing shortly thereafter was Randy "nanonoko" Lew -- streaming on Twitch as well while he did -- and his viewers watched him finish in 649th for a $348.37 cash.

By the time they'd crossed the nine-hour mark the field had been whittled down to just 18 players, with RodrigoFeres having gone out in 61st ($1,854.27) along the way and Francisco "chicalltreta" Correa having moved up into the top spot.

kashmirpoker (18th), trulleke (17th), and Siewas (16th) were the next out, each earning $3,315.21. martinrocky (15th), VeGalBZ (14th), and hongqichunye (13th) followed, taking away $5,000.91 apiece. Then SwalzB (12th), datowiner (11th), and imluckbox (10th) were successively eliminated, each picking up $6,866.61 from the prize pool.

With Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau having pushed out in front as the new chip leader with more than 11.6 million and the tournament having just crossed the 10-hour mark, the final table was underway.

Seat 1: lemontree90 (Austria) -- 2,497,964
Seat 2: Mortan23 (Faroe Islands) -- 3,183,644
Seat 3: MLS20 (Austria) -- 9,102,764
Seat 4: AlemaoAlves (Brazil) -- 8,822,976
Seat 5: walancius (Lithuania) -- 1,000,336
Seat 6: Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau (Brazil) -- 11,641,107
Seat 7: yaoyuwei (China) -- 4,173,753
Seat 8: Francisco "chicalltreta" Correa (Brazil) -- 9,549,073
Seat 9: collin_lots (Canada) -- 6,218,383

On the very first hand of the final table, the blinds were 100K/200K when walancius open-pushed all in from middle position for just over 980,000 (after posting the 20K ante). It folded to lemontree90 on the button who reshoved, pushing out the blinds, who then showed 7♦7♠ versus walancius's A♣T♥. A runout of 4♦K♣K♦8♥6♠ meant the sevens had held, and walancius was out in ninth.

It would take another half-hour before the next elimination came. The blinds were up to 125K/250K, and collin_lots opened for 700,000 from early position, getting one caller in Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau from the small blind. The flop came 7♦T♦T♥, Cheveau checked, collin_lots bet 1.25 million, Cheveau check-raised all in, and collin_lots called with the 2,113,383 left behind.

collin_lots had Q♠Q♥ and was leading against Cheveau's A♣J♥, and stayed in front after the K♠ turn. But the A♥ fell on the river to give Cheveau the better two pair, and collin_lots was done in eighth.

Almost 20 minutes later yaoyuwei min-raised to 600,000 from the cutoff seat, Francisco "chicalltreta" Correa reraise-shoved for about 6.47 million from the button, and yaoyuwei called. Correa had A♣K♦ and was racing against yaoyuwei's J♣J♥. The flop came Q♠5♦J♦ to give yaoyuwei a set, then the J♠ turn made it quads, meaning the straight-making river T♦ was of no use to Correa who was eliminated in seventh.

The remaining six played on with Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau still remaining out in front, then a hand arose that saw yaoyuwei open with a 2x raise to 800,000 from the cutoff, lemontree90 reraise-shove for just over 5.72 million from the button and yaoyuwei snap-call. lemontree90 had A♣J♥, but yaoyuwei had picked up A♥A♠, and five cards later -- 5♥9♥2♥9♠9♣ -- they were down to five.

The remaining players played on a short while, then stopped to talk about a possible deal with yaoyuwei the new leader with about 17.75 million, Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau next with almost 14.29 million, MLS20 third with about 13.61 million, Mortan23 fourth with about 6.53 million, and AlemaoAlves fifth with just a tiny bit less than 4 million even.

Both "ICM"-based figures and "chip chop" numbers were proposed, but the five could not settle on amounts that pleased everyone, and the tournament was restarted.

The first hand after that, Mortan23 open-raised all in from UTG and got no callers. Then on the next hand the final table's third Brazilian, AlemaoAlves, did the same from the cutoff seat with an eight-BB stack, getting a customer in fellow countryman Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau. AlemaoAlves had Q♣T♣ and Cheveau 9♠9♥. The board came 3♦2♥J♣2♠A♠, and AlemaoAlves collected fifth-place prize money.

With that elimination the remaining four immediately paused the tournament again to talk about a possible deal, and after "ICM"-based numbers were presented and revised slightly, all four were amenable and the deal was made. Play soon resumed, with $20,000 still left for which to play.

A short while later the blinds were 250K/500K when Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau opened for 1 million from the button and Mortan23 called from the big blind. Both checked the 2♥9♣3♦ flop, then after the K♠ fell on fourth street Mortan23 led for 2 million, Cheveau raised to 4 million, and Mortan23 called with the just over 1.08 million behind.

Cheveau had Q♣Q♥ for a better pair than the nines Mortan23 had with 9♦6♣, and after the 8♣ river Mortan23 was sent railward in fourth.

yaoyuwei was still the leader as three-handed play began with about 29.1 million to Cheveau's almost 17 million and MLS20's just over 10 million. Cheveau would soon grab the advantage, however, earning two big pots -- one from each opponent -- to move ahead.

The blinds increased again to 300K/600K, and after Cheveau limped in from the small blind, yaoyuwei three-bet to 1.98 million from the big blind, Cheveau shoved, and yaoyuwei called all in with the 11.53 million behind.

VinceVegaMFR showed A♦6♦ versus yaoyuwei's K♥J♠. The board came 4♥5♣7♦5♥8♦, adding up to a straight for Cheveau and a third-place finish for yaoyuwei.

That pot meant Cheveau carried a big chip lead to heads-up play with 41,343,368 to MLS20's 14,846,632. The pair would play about a dozen hands, then after MLS20 limped in for 400K, Cheveau pushed all in and MLS20 called, turning over K♦Q♦ to VinceVegaMFR's T♣9♠.

MLS20's king-queen held through the 6♥7♣6♠ flop and 6♦ turn, but the T♦ on the river hit Cheveau's hand, giving him the pot, the extra $20K in play, and the victory.

Congratulations to Guilherme "VinceVegaMFR" Cheveau for picking up his second Sunday Million win and kudos as well to the other three players making it to that final-table deal with him to guarantee themselves handsome paydays, too.
