Sunday Million: Guly_Star7 shines with $129k score

These days, you're more likely to find Guly_Star7 in a 6-max Hyper-Turbo SNG than grinding through an MTT with a twelve-hour running time. However, eschewing his regular game tonight for a shot at the Sunday Million paid off in a life-changing manner. Surrounded by WCOOP champions (vovanmillion) and players who had major final table experience (GusanoZ, Goudvis_90, and Obintsov Spb), Guly_Star7 persevered and parlayed a very lucky break four-handed into his first Sunday Million title.

5,388 players entered this week's Milliion, resulting in a $1,077,600.00 prize pool. 810 places were paid, with the champion set to earn $168,539.34.

Blinds were up to 100,000/200,000 and ten players remained when Flush098765 open-shoved for 3.76 million on the button. GusanoZ looked down at A♦Q♦ in the small blind and reshoved for 4.1 million, folding out Goudvis_90 in the big blind. Flush098765's K♠6♠ couldn't beat GusanoZ's aces up on the A♣Q♣7♣9♦K♦ board and he ended his run on the final table bubble.

Final table chip counts

Seat 1: Guly_Star7 (7,371,852 in chips)
Seat 2: runovych (4,625,247 in chips)
Seat 3: Odintsov Spb (6,977,188 in chips)
Seat 4: vovanmillion (8,836,989 in chips)
Seat 5: Goudvis_90 (1,737,042 in chips)
Seat 6: GusanoZ (8,167,223 in chips)
Seat 7: pramuk88 (2,107,246 in chips)
Seat 8: HipHaan01 (8,976,893 in chips)
Seat 9: throwinphins (5,080,320 in chips)

On Hand #5, pramuk88 made his last stand, open-shoving for 2.49 million with Q♥T♥. Odintsov Spb successfully isolated him with a reshove for 6.67 million and turned up A♦J♥. Pramuk88 got no help on the K♣9♠3♦K♠A♥ board and went out in ninth place. Less than ten minutes later, throwinphins followed pramuk88 to the rail after three-bet shoving for 3.57 million with A♦T♥. Initial raiser vovanmillion called with A♠K♠ and although throwinphins flopped a ten, vovanmillion turned a king to send him home in eighth.

Down to his last 17 big blinds, Guly_Star7 got a new lease on life when he doubled to 10.9 million through Odintsov Spb, his A♥K♣ turning a king vs. pocket tens. One orbit later, Odintsov Spb opened for a min-raise to 600,000 and Goudvis_90 moved all-in for 2.28 million with K♥Q♥. Odintsov Spb called with A♣T♣ and turned an ace on the J♦8♠4♥A♦6♥ board to eliminate Goudvis_90 in seventh place.

Goudvis_90's exit left runovych as the short stack, but as the blinds rose to 200,000/400,000, he doubled to 6.87 million through vovanmillion, his A♥4♠ holding up against Q♦8♥. Runovych maintained that stack through most of the level, before moving all-in for 6.75 million from UTG with 5♣5♦. Unfortunately, runovych ran into Guly_Star7's K♥K♦, and with no improvement on the J♦3♠3♣A♥7♦ board, he hit the rail in sixth place.

GusanoZ got a huge boost when vovanmillion made a small blind shove with A♠2♠ and ran headlong into his A♣K♠. GusanoZ moved up to 15 million in chips, but vovanmillion got 5 million back in short order when GusanoZ again picked up A♣K♣. This time, vovanmillion's dominated A♦7♥ flopped its kicker and he doubled back to 10.3 million. By the time the blinds increased to 300,000/600,000, GusanoZ was down to 5.6 million, but he hit a lucky seven on the flop when all-in with 7♠8♠ vs. Odintsov Spb's Q♥T♣ and doubled to 11.7 million.

Onetime chip leader Odintsov Spb was left with 2.15 million and moved in from the small blind a few hands later with 7♦9♠. Vovanmillion called from the big blind with J♥6♦, but Odintsov Spb flopped a nine and turned trips to rake in the 4.49 million pot. On the next deal, the action folded to Odintsov Spb on the button and he shoved holding K♦6♦. Vovanmillion reshoved from the small blind and turned over 4♠4♥. Vovanmillion's pocket fours held up on the 8♣3♥3♣J♠2♥ board and Odintsov Spb was out in fifth place.

At this juncture, all four players were willing to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here's how they stacked up at the time:

HipHaan01 - 15,265,673
Guly_Star7 - 14,807,758
vovanmillion - 13,720,345
GusanoZ - 10,086,224

Everyone quickly agreed to a chip count chop and with $20,000 still at stake for the winner, cards went back in the air.

Shortly thereafter, in what could easily be argued as the hand of the tournament, GusanoZ opened for 1,201,200 and Guly_Star7 moved all-in for 11.5 million from the small blind with Q♠7♣. Not so fast, declared vovanmillion, who reshoved for 16.9 million from the big blind, folding out GusanoZ. Vovanmillion turned up K♥K♣... only to watch Guly_Star7 hit the flop of his life . It came down 7♦7♠3♣, making Guly_Star7 trips. Vovanmillion didn't improve on the 5♠ turn or the 2♣ river and Guly_Star7 rocketed into the chip lead with 24.5 million.

Down to 7.25 million, vovanmillion open-shoved from the cutoff with 2♣2♠ and HipHaan01 called from the small blind with A♥6♥. A six hit the flop for HipHaan01 and vovanmillion's run came to an end in fourth place.

When three-handed play commenced, Guly_Star7 held the chip lead with 22.5 million, HipHaan01 was second with 19.2 million, and GusanoZ was the short stack with 12.1 million.

Two hands later, Guly_Star7 min-raised to 1.2 million and GusanoZ moved in for 11.4 million with A♣8♦. Guly_Star7 quickly called, turning up J♥J♠. However, it was GusanoZ's turn to hit a flop, which fell A♥K♣K♦, making him aces up. Guly_Star7 didn't catch a miracle jack or running straight cards and GusanoZ doubled to 23.6 million.

Four hands passed before HipHaan01 made a small blind shove with A♦3♥ and Guly_Star7 called with A♥8♠. Guly_Star7 caught an eight on the flop and doubled to 19.3 million. Four hands after that, Guly_Star7 made the same move and shoved for 19.2 million from the small blind. GusanoZ called all-in from the big, his Q♥9♥ up against K♥8♥. Guly_Star7 made a pair of kings on the K♦J♦4♠5♠6♦ board and GusanoZ hit the rail in third place.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 1: Guly_Star7 (29,129,027 in chips)
Seat 8: HipHaan01 (24,750,973 in chips)

After six flopless hands heads-up, all the chips went in the middle on Hand #7. Guly_Star7 min-raised to 1.6 million on the button with A♦8♣, HipHaan01 shoved for 24.8 million with 4♠4♥ and Guly_Star7 called. Once again, the flop fell with Guly_Star7, the board running out A♥K♦2♥J♥5♣ to award him his first Sunday Million title.

Congratulations to Guly_Star7 on joining the ranks for Sunday Million champions. He banked $129,129.75 for the win, while runner-up HipHaan01 collected $110,036.23.
