Sunday Million: Johan "busto_soon" Van Til flush again with $170k score
For almost a decade now, busto_soon, the online moniker of Dutch pro Johan Van Til, has been a steady presence in PokerStars MTTs. With over $4.2 million in online earnings, Van Til has final tabled the Super Tuesday, chopped the Sunday 500, scored $75k for fourth place in a $1k NLHE 6-Max WCOOP, and has also done well for himself in the live arena, adding nearly another $300k to the till. Still, a Sunday Million win had eluded Van Til, and standing in his way tonight was a man who had done it before... and quite recently. On March 8th, xKoSSSx won the Million for $215k and with five players remaining tonight, he held the chip lead and was poised to do it again. However, a costly mistake sent him home in fourth place and set up a fierce heads-up battle between KunCheng and Van Til. Although KunCheng held a 2.5 to 1 chip lead, Van Til mounted an incredible comeback and locked up his first Sunday Million title, along with over $170k.
5,447 players flocked to this week's Million, creating a $1,089,400.00 prize pool. 810 places were paid, with the winner set to earn $170,384.59.
Ten players remained and the blinds were up to 100,000/200,000 when two medium stacks went to war preflop. JaMmYsTyLe7 opened for 600,000 from the cutoff and JDnCoke2000 moved in for 4.24 million with A♦Q♠. JaMmYsTyLe7 called and revealed J♦J♣. The K♥9♥9♠ flop made JaMmYsTyLe7 two pair and the J♠ turned to lock up the hand for him with a full house as JDnCoke2000's run came to an end on the final table bubble.

On Hand #1, the final table lost its first player. Kingkai four-bet shoved for 3.25 million and JaMmYsTyLe7 called, his J♦J♣ in dire shape against Q♦Q♣. Kingkai's queens held up through the turn on the 9♠7♥4♣A♠, but JaMmYsTyLe7 miraculously spiked the J♠ on the river to make a set and eliminate kingkai in ninth place. Only moments later, busto_soon and Takiowns also got their stacks in preflop, busto_soon three-betting to 6.8 million with A♦K♥ and Takiowns happily calling all-in with A♠A♥. Takiowns kept the lead on the Q♣5♠3♣ flop, but that smile turned upside down as the K♣ and the K♠ rained down on the turn and river, snapping off his pocket aces. Busto_soon took the chip lead with 11.6 million while Takiowns had to settle for eighth place.
Blinds were up to 125,000/250,000 when yong09 made a move, shoving for 3.1 million from UTG+1. KunCheng reshoved from the cutoff with Q♦Q♠ and yong09 turned up K♥J♦. Although yong09 caught a jack on the flop, KunCheng's queens held up on the J♥9♣3♥6♦A♣ board and yong09 hit the rain in seventh place.
Play remained six-handed until the 200,000/400,000 level when JARKSKUNN open-shoved for 3.77 million from UTG. Busto_soon reshoved from the small blind with K♠K♥ and JARKSKUNN turned over 6♥6♣. There was no miracle for JARKSKUNN on the A♦5♠J♠4♠J♥ board and he exited in sixth place.
xKoSSSx had ground his way into the chip lead with 17.5 million when he clashed with second-place ISAAC201266. With the action folded to him in the small blind, ISAAC201266 limped in and xKoSSSx raised to 1.4 million. ISAAC201266 called and they saw a T♦9♣6♥ flop. ISAAC201266 check-called xKoSSSx's 1,099,999 bet and both players checked when the T♠ turned. The river was the J♦ and ISAAC201266 turned around and led out for 3.2 million. xKoSSSx raised to 11,899,998 and ISAAC201266 surrendered the 11.6 million pot.
xKoSSSx moved up to 23.4 million, but didn't hang onto it for very long. A few minutes later, KunCheng opened for a min-raise to 1,000,000 and xKoSSSx moved all-in on the button. KunCheng called off his remaining 10.2 million, his A♣K♣ dominating xKoSSSx's A♥6♥. KunCheng's hand held up and he doubled to 23.4 million while xKoSSSx slid to 9.9 million.
A few hands later, ISAAC201266 open-shoved for 4.5 million with A♦2♠ and KunCheng called with pocket jacks. Although ISAAC201266 flopped a wheel draw, the jacks held on the 5♥3♥3♠8♠8♣ board and he departed in fifth place. Then, on the very next deal, xKoSSSx got the rest of his chips in vs. busto_soon on a 9♦7♥3♥ flop. xKoSSSx turned up 5♥6♥ for straight and flush draws while busto_soon revealed K♠K♥. The 9♠ turn and the A♦ river missed xKoSSSx's outs and his hopes for a second Sunday Million title in 14 weeks were dashed with a fourth-place finish.
As three-handed play commenced, KunCheng held the chip lead with 28.1 million, busto_soon was a strong second with 21.6 million and JaMmYsTyLe7 was the short stack with 4.8 million. JaMmYsTyLe7 , however, got a bit of a leg up when he doubled through KunCheng, his K♣Q♦ making kings and queens against pocket tens.
Shortly thereafter, the final three agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here's how they stacked up at the time:
KunCheng - 27,993,492
busto_soon - 19,034,672
JaMmYsTyLe7 - 7,441,836
The players were presented with chip count chop and ICM numbers. While JaMmYsTyLe7 was amenable to either amount and KunCheng agreed to the chip count figures, busto_soon required a $130k share to make a deal. As the amount was over $3,000 more than his ICM share and KunCheng was unwilling to make up the difference, negotiations came to a standstill.
Action resumed without a deal in place and with the blinds up to 300,000/600,000, KunCheng made a small blind shove with A♦7♠. JaMmYsTyLe7 called with 6♠6♥ from the big. Although the sixes held up on the J♠T♥3♦ flop, KunCheng hit running cards, the K♦ and the Q♠ to make Broadway and JaMmYsTyLe7's run came to an end in third place.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: KunCheng (38,635,328 in chips)
Seat 9: busto_soon (15,834,672 in chips)
KunCheng and busto_soon traded jabs for two dozen hands before busto_soon min-raised to 1.2 million on the button and KunCheng called from the big blind. The flop came down A♦K♥8♥ and KunCheng checked to busto_soon, who bet 940,000. KunCheng called and they went to the turn, which fell the 7♦. Again, KunCheng checked, and busto_soon bet 2,610,000. KunCheng moved all-in for 39.9 million and busto_soon swiftly called, revealing K♣8♠ for kings and eights. KunCheng showed 7♥8♣ for an inferior two pair and as the 3♠ landed on the river, busto_soon doubled to 24.6 million. KunCheng was left with 29.9 million.
KunCheng expanded his lead when his 9♥T♣ hit middle pair on a Q♣T♠3♦ flop. KunCheng check-called busto_soon's 1.47 million bet on the flop and did the same on the turn for 3.73 million, but busto_soon smartly checked behind on the river. KunCheng raked in the 13.76 million pot and moved up to 35.4 million, but three hands later, busto_soon doubled up. With the board reading K♦4♠8♠J♣ on the turn, busto_soon checked and KunCheng moved all-in for 27.2 million. Busto_soon called all-in for less, revealing K♣3♠ for top pair. KunCheng had A♣8♣ for a pair of eights, but he did not improve when the 6♠ hit the river. Busto_soon moved up to 38.1 million while KunCheng was left with 16.3 million.
KunCheng was down to 13.2 million with the blinds up to 500,000/1,000,000 when he found A♥Q♠ on the button. He moved all-in and busto_soon called with 4♥4♣. The Sunday Million title came down to the flip of a coin and this time, it landed on busto_soon's side as the board ran out T♣3♥2♦J♥5♠.
Congratulations to Johan "busto_soon" Van Til on at last capturing a Sunday Million title! He banked $170,384.59 for his achievement, while runner-up KunCheng earned $126,915.10.
