Sunday Million: Marcin "MARCIN123" Milde wins the Milly, earns $230K

With three players left in this week's Sunday Million, the U.K.'s Marcin "MARCIN123" Milde was all in and one card from elimination, looking sure to fall in a hand versus Allan "Sifosis" Baekke of Denmark and likely end the $215 no-limit hold'em tournament a couple of spots shy of claiming this week's huge $230,614.05 first prize.

But the river was kind to Milde, giving him the pot and sending Baekke out in third, then after Milde knocked out the Ukrainian Chirkov77 he was the one claiming the title and that huge payout.

There was a whopping field of 7,687 players in this week's Milly, together building a prize pool of $1,537,400 to crush the $1 million guarantee.

It took a little over five hours for the field to be carved down to 1,170 players and the money bubble to burst, at which point a familiar name sat atop the counts, Philipp "philbort" Gruissem, who is fresh off a couple of cashes at the recently completed EPT11 Malta series in both the €25,500 High Roller (where he finished 13th) and the €10,300 High Roller (where he took 22nd).

Gruissem would eventually fall back to the pack, then hit the rail in 126th for a $1,153.05 cash. Then some time later just after the 10-hour mark the field was carved to 18 with Bulldog622 just having won a big pot to push into first place as the only player with more than 10 million chips.

Artem "Artem205" Metalidi (18th), Tomás "T 54 T 97s" Paiva (17th), and ramatt (16th) were eliminated shortly thereafter, earning $4,074.11 each. gembler93 (15th), gregory6 (14th), and eStfu (13th) were the next to go, picking up $6,149.60 apiece. Toby "810ofclubs" Lewis (12th), timmiturner1 (11th), and thachabooo (10th) next followed them to the rail, taking away $8,225.09 each for not quite making the final table.

With Marcin "MARCIN123" Milde having pushed out to a big chip lead with more than 21 million -- greater than twice nearest challenger Wijzut21 -- just nine remained.

Former leader Bulldog622 still had a healthy stack to begin the final table, but about a dozen hands later got involved in a preflop raising war with leader Marcin "MARCIN123" Milde that ended with Bulldog622 all in for nearly 9 million with Q♦Q♥ versus Milde's A♦K♥. The board came ten-high through the turn, but the A♠ fell on fifth street to give Milde the better pair, and Bulldog622 was done in ninth.

About 15 minutes later Wijzut21 limped in from the small blind, Milde raised to 1.6 million (8x the big blind), and Wijzut21 called. The flop came J♣9♥A♣, and Wijzut21 check-called a bet of 1,830,400 from Milde. The turn brought the 5♦ and another check from Wijzut21, and when MARCIN123 bet 2,734,016, Wijzut21 called again.

The river was the 2♠. Wijzut21 checked one last time, Milde pushed all in, and Wijzut21 called all in with the 4,253,208 left behind. Wijzut21 showed A♥3♥ for a pair of aces, but it wasn't enough against Milde's J♥J♠ for a set of jacks, and Wijzut21 was out in eighth.

Not long after it was Cesar "Ce$ar$pa" Garcia open-raising all in from early position for almost 2.15 million (just over four big blinds), BAKFAT8 reraising all in from the button, and the others folded. BAKFAT8's J♠J♥ was ahead of Garcia's K♥9♣, and after the board came 6♠2♠7♥A♥3♥, Garcia was eliminated in seventh.

Play continued, and before long Marcin "MARCIN123" Milde's lead had grown even larger as he pushed up over the 40 million-chip mark. Then came a hand in which Allan "Sifosis" Bakke open-pushed from the small blind, earning a call by doid@obh who committed a stack of almost 3.6 million (about 6 BBs). Bakke had but 5♠3♥ versus doid@obh's A♠K♣, but a 6♦4♥2♠ flop gave Bakke a straight and the lead, and after a queen on the turn doid@obh was drawing dead to finish in sixth.

Shortly after that BAKFAT8 open-pushed a short stack of not quite 1.2 million from the button, getting calls from both Marcin "MARCIN123" Milde (small blind) and Allan "Sifosis" Bakke (big blind). The latter two checked down the A♣4♥7♣ flop and K♥ turn, then after the 6♥ river Milde check-folded to a Bakke bet. Bakke then showed J♥8♥ for a flush to beat BAKFAT8's 2♥2♣, and BAKFAT8 was sent railward in fifth.

The remaining four players were just starting to chat about a possible deal when eqn778 open-raised all in from the button for almost 12.3 million (just over 15 BBs), Chirkov77 reraise-shoved from the small blind, and Milde folded from the big blind. eqn778 had Q♠7♠ and needed to improve against Chirkov77's A♠T♣, and the 9♥7♣5♦ flop did just that by giving eqn778 a pair of sevens. But after a king came on the turn the river brought an ace and a better pair for Chirkov77, and they were down to three.

Five hands later Chirkov77 was leading when Marcin "MARCIN123" Milde opened with a just-over-2x raise to 1.8 million from the button. Allan "Sifosis" Baekke responded with a big three-bet to 18.8 million from the small blind, leaving just over 30,000 behind. And after Chirkov77 folded, Milde then reshoved and Baekke called with what was left.

Milde had A♣J♥ while Baekke turned over A♠7♠, then a 2♦T♣7♥ flop put the player from Denmark in front. The turn was the Q♦ putting Milde one card from elimination, but then the J♣ arrived on fifth street to give Milde the hand and send Baekke out in third.

Allan "Sifosis" Baekke

That hand put Marcin "MARCIN123" Milde ahead to begin heads-up play with about 40.7 million to Chirkov77's almost 36.2 million, and after 10 hands between them Milde had chipped up further to almost 46 million to Chirkov77's 31 million when the final hand took place.

The blinds were 400,000/800,000, and Chirkov77 opened with a raise to 2 million from the button. Milde responded by reraising to 6 million, Chirkov77 shoved, and Milde called without hesitation.

Chirkov77: K♣T♦

Milde had the dominating hand, and after the flop came 2♦A♥9♦ to pair his ace he was even further ahead. The turn and river -- 2♣, then 3♠ -- didn't help Chirkov77, and it was all over: Milde had won.
