Sunday Million: AAadrift rights course, earns $157k in powerhouse performance
Two players in the final three of this week's Sunday Million were looking to make good on a second chance. A little over two years ago, Bulgarian Supernova StoyanB finished sixth in the Million, earning over $43k but falling short of the coveted title. A year ago this week, Brazil's RafaCorreaBR finished in 15th place. He may have missed out on the final table then, but he had a rare mulligan tonight and rode it all the way to the final three after doubling through AAadrift to take the chip lead. RafaCorreaBR, however, ended up falling to AAadrift in third place, setting up a lopsided heads-up match between AAdrift and StoyanB. Although StoyanB took a methodical approach and was chipping away nicely at AAadrift, a cooler ended his chance at redemption. AAadrift flopped two pair and StoyanB made a smaller two pair on the turn. All the chips went in then and there, and AAadrift emerged with his first major online title and $157k.
5,537 players bought in to this week's Million, creating a $1,107,400.00 prize pool. 764 places were paid, with first place set to earn $157,465.27.
Nearly eleven hours after cards went in the air, the field was down to ten players and the blinds up to 80,000/160,000. The action folded around to WillDav11 in the small blind, who moved all-in for 8.27 million. Big blind ikeepu4ever called with 5♠5♥, only to find himself up against WillDav11's 8♣8♦. The pocket eights held up on the Q♠T♣2♥7♠T♠ board and ikeepu4ever went out in tenth place, sending the remaining nine to the final table.

Short stack jcmspoker found A♠J♣ early in the 125,000/250,000 level and open-shoved from UTG, but RafaCorreaBR reshoved for 2.87 million behind him and rolled over K♠K♦. Although the flop contained an ace, a king came with it and RafaCorreaBR took down the pot with a set, ending jcmspoker's run in ninth place. RafaCorreaBR moved up to 5.6 million in chips after the hand.
A short time later, the action folded around to AAadrift who min-raised to 500,000 with Q♠Q♥. Mönjäke moved all-in right behind him for 2.51 million with pocket nines and AAadrift was all too happy to call. The queens reigned on the K♥T♣4♠7♦2♥ board and mönjäke went out in eighth place, while AAadrift moved up to second in chips with 12.5 million behind WillDav11's 14.5 million.
Three hands later, AAadrift picked up another pocket pair, this time T♣T♦. He opened for 500,000 from UTG and WillDav11 three-bet to 1.75 million from the cutoff. Olivax596 four-bet shoved for 1.83 million, AAadrift called, and WillDav11 called as well. The flop came down A♠T♠3♥ and AAadrift checked his set of tens to WillDav11, who checked behind. The turn came the J♥ and AAadrift made it 2.25 million to go. WillDav11 called. The river was the 9♠, putting a potential straight on board. AAadrift made a 1.75 million value bet and WillDav11 looked him up. AAadrift's set of tens were good and olivax596 hit the rail in seventh place. AAadrift collected the 14 million pot and moved into the chip lead with 20.1 million, while WillDav11 sank to 8.2 million.
Two hands later, AAadrift's incredible rush continued. Noirduck opened for 562,500 and AAadrift looked down at A♠Q♠. He three-bet all in and noirduck called off his remaining 4.05 million with T♥T♣. The coin came down on AAadrift's side as the board ran out J♦6♣2♦K♥A♥, the river ace giving AAadrift the 9.64 million pot. Noirduck was out in sixth place and AAadrift moved up to 26.9 million, now the runaway chip leader.
The players took a five-minute break and on their first hand back w00tLOL open-shoved for 3.7 million on the button. RadaCorreaBR called from the big blind, his A♥9♥ dominated by w00tLOL's A♠T♦. However, the flop fell 9♣5♦4♣, making RafaCorreaBR a pair of nines. W00tLOL didn't catch up on the 2♠ turn or the K♣ river and was eliminated in fifth place.
RafaCorreaBR moved up to nearly 10 million in chips on that hand, and four hands later found himself in a game-changing pot. With the blinds up to 150,000/300,000, AAadrift opened for 750,000 from the small blind and RafaCorreaBR called. The flop came down J♥7♠2♦ and AAadrift led out for 900,000. RadaCorreaBR called. The turn was the T♣ and AAadrift fired another 1.8 million. Again, RafaCorreaBR called. The river fell the 5♣ and AAadrift moved all-in for 23.3 million. RafaCorreaBR called off his remaining 7 million and turned over A♥J♣ for top pair, top kicker. AAadrift was on a stone bluff with only 6♥9♣ and RafaCorreaBR doubled to 21 million, wresting the chip lead away from AAadrift, who fell to 16.3 million.
At this point, WillDav11 asked if anyone was interested in looking at numbers. However, before his opponents could respond, he got tangled up in a hand with RafaCorreaBR. RafaCorreaBR min-raised to 600,000 prefllop, WillDav11 moved all-in for 6.72 million from the big blind and RafaCorreaBR called. WillDav11's K♦9♠ did not improve against RafaCorreaBR's A♥Q♣ on the J♠J♣3♣8♠6♣ board and his run came to an end in fourth place.
Moments later, the final three players agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here's how they stacked up at the time:
The final three were interested in an ICM chop, but AAadrift warned his opponents that he was looking for a bit of a raise from his ICM share, citing the fact that he was a "HU reg." StoyanB wasn't too impressed.
AAadrift: i need more than ICM, im reg of HU
StoyanB: 50bb aint much advantage of being a reg hu
StoyanB: reg sng would benefit much more
When the numbers were calculated, RafaCorreaBR's share came to nearly $118k, AAadrift's to $104k and StovanB's to $101k. AAadrift declared he wanted $110k or they could continue playing. Unsurprisingly, he didn't get any takers. AAadrift instructed the moderator to resume play and with no deal in place, cards went back in the air.
AAadrift had ground his way back into the chip lead by the 200,000/400,000 level, when he decided to limp in and RafaCorreaBR raised to 1.2 million. AAadrift three-bet to 3.8 million, RafaCorreaBR shoved for 17.9 million and AAadrift called, his T♣T♥ up against 6♣6♠. RafaCorreaBR was in dire shape and didn't get any help on the J♥J♦8♦4♠Q♣ board, spelling his ouster in third place.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 3: StoyanB (10,195,323 in chips)
Seat 8: AAadrift (45,174,677 in chips)
It was down to a battle between the heads-up specialist and a Supernova looking to avenge his previous sixth-place finish in this very tournament. AAadrift had the advantage going into the match with a 4.5 to 1 chip lead.
StoyanB and AAadrift traded small pots back and forth for about twenty minutes, with StoyanB picking up nearly 5 million in chips along the way. Then, with the blinds up to 250,000/500,000, StoyanB limped in on the button. AAadrift raised to 1.5 million and StoyanB called. The flop fell J♦9♥7♦ and AAadrift led out for 1.5 million. StoyanB called. The turn brought the 6♥ and AAadrift checked. StoyanB bet 2,813,000, AAadrift shoved and StoyanB called all-in for his remaining 9 million.
AAadrift 7♠9♠ (two pair, sevens and nines)
StoyanB 6♣7♥ (two paid, sixes and sevens)
Only one of the two remaining sixes in the deck could save StoyanB, but the A♦ landed on the river, locking up victory for AAadrift.
Congratulations to AAadrift on his first Sunday Million title! He banked $157,465.27 for the win, while runner-up StoyanB earned $109,715.21.
